1 ¶ Let all that are under the yoke of slavery count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine not be blasphemed.

Усі раби, які під ярмом, нехай уважають панів своїх гідними всякої чести, щоб не зневажалися Боже Ім'я та наука.

2 A nd those that have faithful masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren, but rather serve them better, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. Teach and exhort this.

А ті, хто має панів віруючих, не повинні недбати про них через те, що браття вони, але нехай служать їм тим більше, що вони віруючі та улюблені, що вони добродійства Божі приймають. Оцього навчай та нагадуй!

3 I f anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ and to the doctrine which is according to godliness,

А коли хто навчає інакше, і не приступає до здорових слів Господа нашого Ісуса Христа та до науки, що вона за правдивою вірою,

4 h e is puffed up, knowing nothing, but is driven mad concerning questions and controversy of words, of which comes envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

той згордів, нічого не знає, але захворів на суперечки й змагання, що від них повстають заздрість, сварки, богозневаги, лукаві здогади,

5 p erverse disputings of men of corrupt understanding, and destitute of the truth, using piety as a source of gain: from such withdraw thyself.

постійні сварні між людьми зіпсутого розуму й позбавлених правди, які думають, ніби благочестя то зиск. Цурайся таких!

6 ¶ But piety with contentment is great gain.

Великий же зиск то благочестя із задоволенням.

7 F or we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

Бо ми не принесли в світ нічого, то нічого не можемо й винести.

8 S o that, sustenance and covering, let us be content with this.

А як маєм поживу та одяг, то ми задоволені будьмо з того.

9 F or those that desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.

А ті, хто хоче багатіти, упадають у спокуси та в сітку, та в численні нерозумні й шкідливі пожадливості, що втручають людей на загладу й загибіль.

10 F or the love of money is the root of all evil, which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Бо корень усього лихого то грошолюбство, якому віддавшись, дехто відбились від віри й поклали на себе великі страждання.

11 B ut thou, O man of God, flee these things and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, charity, tolerance, meekness.

Але ти, о Божа людино, утікай від такого, а женися за правдою, благочестям, вірою, любов'ю, терпеливістю, лагідністю!

12 F ight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, unto which thou art also called, having made a good profession before many witnesses.

Змагай добрим змагом віри, ухопися за вічне життя, до якого й покликаний ти, і визнав був добре визнання перед свідками багатьома.

13 ¶ I give thee charge in the sight of God, who gives life to all things and before Christ Jesus, who testified before Pontius Pilate a good profession;

Наказую перед Богом, що оживлює все, і перед Христом Ісусом, Який добре визнання засвідчив за Понтія Пилата,

14 t hat thou keep the commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,

щоб додержав ти заповідь чистою та бездоганною аж до з'явлення Господа нашого Ісуса Христа,

15 w ho in his time shall show the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

що його свого часу покаже блаженний і єдиний міцний, Цар над царями та Пан над панами,

16 t he only one who has immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto, whom no man has seen nor can see, to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

Єдиний, що має безсмертя, і живе в неприступному світлі, Якого не бачив ніхто із людей, ані бачити не може. Честь Йому й вічна влада, амінь!

17 C harge those that are rich in this world, that they not be highminded, not placing their hope in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy;

Наказуй багатим за віку теперішнього, щоб не неслися високо, і щоб надії не клали на багатство непевне, а на Бога Живого, що щедро дає нам усе на спожиток,

18 b ut charge them to do good, that they be rich in good works, liberal to distribute, willing to communicate,

щоб робили добро, багатилися в добрих ділах, були щедрі та пильні,

19 l aying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the future, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

щоб збирали собі скарб, як добру основу в майбутньому, щоб прийняти правдиве життя.

20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, turn away from profane voices and vain things and arguments in the vain name of science,

О Тимофію, бережи передання, стережися марного базікання та суперечок знання, неправдиво названого так.

21 w hich some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.

Дехто віддався йому, та й від віри відпав. Благодать з тобою. Амінь.
