1 ¶ Then we turned and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as the LORD had said unto me; and we went around Mount Seir many days

І обернулися ми та й рушили в пустиню дорогою до Червоного моря, як Господь промовляв був до мене. І кружляли ми навколо гори Сеїр багато днів.

2 u ntil the LORD spoke unto me, saying,

І сказав Господь до мене, говорячи:

3 Y e have gone around this mountain long enough; return unto the Aquilon.

Досить вам кружляти навколо цієї гори, оберніться на північ!

4 A nd command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the border of your brethren, the sons of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you; take care unto yourselves, therefore;

А народові наказуй, говорячи: Ви переходите границі ваших братів, Ісавових синів, що мешкають у Сеїрі. І будуть вони боятися вас, та й ви пильно стережіться!

5 d o not seek a fight with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth because I have given Mount Seir unto Esau for an inheritance.

Не дражніть їх, бо Я не дам вам з їхнього краю місця ані на стопу ноги, бо гору Сеїр Я дав Ісавові, як спадщину.

6 Y e shall buy food from them for money that ye may eat, and ye shall also buy water from them for money that ye may drink.

Їжу купите від них за срібло і будете їсти, а також воду будете купувати в них за срібло і будете пити.

7 F or the LORD thy God has blessed thee in all the works of thy hand; he knows thy walking through this great wilderness; these forty years the LORD thy God has been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.

Бо Господь, Бог твій, поблагословив тебе в кожному чині твоєї руки, знає Він ходу твою в цій великій пустині. Оце сорок літ Господь, Бог твій, з тобою, не відчув ти недостачі ні в чому.

8 ¶ And when we passed by our brethren, the sons of Esau, who dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain from Elath and from Eziongaber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.

І перейшли ми від наших братів, Ісавових синів, що сидять у Сеїрі, від дороги степу, від Елату, і від Ецйон-Ґеверу. І обернулися ми, та й перейшли дорогою моавської пустині.

9 A nd the LORD said unto me, Distress not the Moabites, neither contend with them in battle; for I will not give thee of their land for a possession because I have given Ar unto the sons of Lot for an inheritance.

І сказав Господь мені: Не ворогуй з Моавом, і не дратуй їх війною, бо Я не дам тобі з його краю спадщини, бо Лотовим синам дав Я Ар на спадок.

10 ( The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many and tall as the Anakims,

Перед тим сиділи в ньому еми, народ великий, і численний, і високий, як велетні.

11 w hich also were accounted giants as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims.

Рефаями вважалися й вони, як велетні, а моавітяни кличуть їх: еми.

12 T he Horims also dwelt in Seir before time, but the sons of Esau inherited from them, and they destroyed them from before them and dwelt in their stead as Israel did in the land of his possession, which the LORD gave unto them.)

А в Сеїрі перед тим сиділи були гореї, а Ісавові сини заволоділи ними та вигубили їх перед собою, та й осіли замість них, як зробив Ізраїль Краєві спадку свого, що дав їм Господь.

13 N ow rise up, said I, and pass the brook Zered. And we went over the brook Zered.

Тепер устаньте, і перейдіть поток Зеред. І перейшли ми потік Зеред.

14 A nd the days in which we came from Kadeshbarnea until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty-eight years until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the camp, as the LORD swore unto them.

А час, що ходили ми від Кадеш-Барнеа, аж перейшли потік Зеред, тридцять і вісім літ, аж вимерло все те покоління військових із табору, як Господь присягнув був їм.

15 F or indeed the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from among the camp until they were consumed.

Також і Господня рука була на них, щоб вигубити їх із табору аж до решти.

16 S o it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people

І сталося, коли вигинули всі військові і вимерли з-посеред народу,

17 t hat the LORD spoke unto me, saying,

то Господь промовляв до мене, говорячи:

18 T hou art to pass the border of Moab today unto Ar,

Ти сьогодні проходиш моавську границю Ар.

19 a nd when thou comest near over against the sons of Ammon, do not distress them nor meddle with them, for I will not give thee of the land of the sons of Ammon any possession because I have given it unto the sons of Lot for an inheritance.

І прийдеш близько до Аммонових синів, не ненавидь їх і не дратуй їх, бо не дам тобі спадку з краю Аммонових синів, бо Лотовим синам Я дав його на спадщину.

20 ( That also was accounted a land of giants; giants dwelt therein in another time, and the Ammonites called them Zamzummims,

За край рефаїв вважався також він, рефаї сиділи в ньому перед тим, а аммонітяни кликали їх: замзуми,

21 a people great and many and tall as the Anakims; whom the LORD destroyed before the Ammonites; and they inherited from them and dwelt in their stead,

народ великий, і численний, і високий, як велетні. І вигубив їх Господь перед ними, і вигнали їх, і осіли замість них,

22 a s he did to the sons of Esau who dwelt in Seir when he destroyed the Horims from before them; and they inherited from them and dwelt in their stead even unto this day.

як зробив Він Ісавовим синам, що сидять у Сеїрі, що заволоділи хореянами перед ними, і вигнали їх, і осіли замість них, і сидять аж до сьогодні.

23 A nd the Avims who dwelt in Hazerim, even unto Gaza, the Caphtorims, who came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them and dwelt in their stead.)

А аввеїв, що сидять по оселях аж до Ази, вигубили їх кафтори, що вийшли з Кафтору, та й осіли замість них.

24 ¶ Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass the river Arnon; behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon, the Amorite king of Heshbon, and his land; begin, take possession and contend with him in battle.

Уставайте, рушайте, та й перейдіть потік Арнон! Ось Я дав у твою руку Сигона, царя Хешбону, амореянина, а край його зачни забирати, та й воюй з ним.

25 T his day I will begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the peoples that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear the report of thee, and shall tremble and be in anguish because of thee.

Того дня Я зачну наводити страх та жах перед тобою на народи під усім небом, які, коли почують чутку про тебе, то затремтять, і жахнуться перед тобою.

26 A nd I sent ambassadors out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon, king of Heshbon, with words of peace, saying,

І послав я послів з пустині Кедемот до Сигона, царя хешбонського, з мирними словами, говорячи:

27 L et me pass through thy land; I will go along by the high way; I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left.

Нехай же я перейду в твоїм краї в дорозі, я піду дорогою, не збочу ні праворуч, ні ліворуч.

28 T hou shalt sell me food for money, that I may eat, and give me water for money, that I may drink; I will only pass through on my feet

Їжу за срібло продаси мені, і я їстиму, і воду даси мені за срібло, і я питиму. Нехай тільки перейду я ногами,

29 ( as the sons of Esau, who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites, who dwell in Ar, did unto me) until I shall pass the Jordan into the land which the LORD our God gives us.

як зробили мені Ісавові сини, що сидять у Сеїрі, і моави, що сидять ув Арі, аж перейду я Йордан до того Краю, що його нам дає Господь, Бог наш.

30 B ut Sihon, king of Heshbon, would not let us pass by him, for the LORD thy God had hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate that he might deliver him into thy hand as until this day.

Та не хотів Сигон, цар хешбонський, дати нам перейти через свою землю, бо Господь, Бог твій, зробив запеклим дух його, та ожорсточив його серце, щоб дати його в руку твою, як сьогодні це видко.

31 A nd the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee; begin, take possession that thou may inherit his land.

І сказав Господь мені: Ось, Я зачав давати перед тобою Сигона та його край; зачни заволодівати, щоб успадкувати його край.

32 T hen Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz.

І вийшов Сигон навпроти нас, він та ввесь народ його, на війну до Ягацу.

33 B ut the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we smote him and his sons and all his people.

І дав його нам Господь, Бог наш, і ми побили його й синів його та ввесь його народ.

34 A nd we took all his cities at that time and utterly destroyed all the cities, the men and the women and the little ones; we left none to remain.

І того часу ми здобули всі його міста, і зробили закляттям кожне місто, чоловіків і жінок та дітей, нікого не позоставили ми.

35 W e took only the beasts for a prey unto ourselves and the spoil of the cities which we took.

Тільки худобу забрали ми собі на здобич, та захоплене в містах, що ми їх здобули.

36 F rom Aroer, which is by the brink of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is by the river even unto Gilead, there was not one city escaped us; the LORD our God delivered all of them before us.

Від Ароеру, що на березі арнонського потоку, і від міста, що в долині, і аж до Ґілеаду не було міста, яке було б сильніше від нас, усе віддав нам Господь, Бог наш.

37 O nly unto the land of the sons of Ammon thou camest not, nor unto any place of the river Jabbok, nor unto the cities in the mountains, nor unto any place that the LORD our God forbade us.

Тільки до краю Аммонових синів не наблизився ти, до всього побережжя потоку Яббоку, і до міст гори, та до всього, про що наказав був Господь, Бог наш.
