1 ¶ Now there was a certain man of Ramath of Zophim, of Mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite.

І був один чоловік із Раматаїм-Цофіму, з Єфремових гір, а ім'я йому Елкана, син Єрохама, сина Ілія, сина Тоху, сина Цуфа, єфремлянин.

2 A nd he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

А він мав дві жінки, ім'я одній Анна, а ім'я другій Пеніна. І були в Пеніни діти, а в Анни дітей не було.

3 A nd this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of the hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there.

А той чоловік рік-у-рік ходив із свого міста до Шіло, щоб вклонятися та приносити жертви Господу Саваоту. А там два Ілієві сини, Гофні та Пінхас, були священиками для Господа.

4 A nd when the day would come, Elkanah would sacrifice, and he would give portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and her daughters.

І як бував той день, і Елкана приносив жертви, то він давав своїй жінці Пеніні й усім синам її та дочкам її частини,

5 B ut unto Hannah he would give a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah, even though the LORD had shut up her womb.

а Анні давав частину подвійну, бо любив її. Та Господь замкнув її утробу.

6 A nd her rival provoked her to anger and sorrow because the LORD had shut up her womb.

А її суперниця розпалювала їй гнів, щоб докучати їй, бо Господь замкнув її утробу.

7 A nd this would happen year by year when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she would provoke her; therefore, she would weep and not eat.

І так робив він рік-у-рік, коли вона входила до Господнього дому, а та так гнівила її. І вона плакала й не їла.

8 T hen Elkanah, her husband, said to her, Hannah, why dost thou weep? And why dost thou not eat? And why is thy heart grieved? Am I not better to thee than ten sons?

І сказав їй чоловік її Елкана: Анно, чого ти плачеш і чому не їси? І чого сумне твоє серце? Чи ж я не ліпший тобі за десятьох синів?

9 ¶ So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.

І встала Анна по їді та по питті в Шіло, а священик Ілій сидів на стільці при бічному одвірку Господнього храму.

10 A nd she was in bitterness of soul and prayed unto the LORD and wept sore;

А вона була скорбна духом, і молилася до Господа та плакала гірко.

11 a nd she vowed a vow and said, O LORD of the hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thy handmaid and remember me and not forget thy handmaid but wilt give unto thy handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.

І склала вона обітницю, та й сказала: Господи Саваоте, якщо дійсно споглянеш на біду Твоєї невільниці, і згадаєш мене, і не забудеш Своєї невільниці, і даси Своїй невільниці нащадка чоловічої статі, то я дам його Господеві на всі дні життя його, а бритва не торкнеться його голови.

12 A nd it came to pass as she continued praying before the LORD that Eli was observing her mouth.

І сталося, коли вона довго молилася перед Господнім лицем, то Ілій пильнував за її устами.

13 N ow Hannah spoke in her heart and only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard; therefore, Eli thought she was drunk.

А Анна вона говорила в серці своїм: тільки губи її порушувалися, а голос її не був чутий. І вважав її Ілій за п'яну.

14 A nd Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? Put away thy wine from thee.

І сказав до неї Ілій: Аж доки ти будеш п'яною? Витверезись зо свого вина!

15 A nd Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit; I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink but have poured out my soul before the LORD.

А Анна відповіла та й сказала: Ні, пане мій, я жінка скорбна духом, а вина та п'янкого напою не пила я. І я вилила душу свою перед Господнім лицем.

16 D o not count thy handmaid for a daughter of Belial, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have waited until now to speak.

Не вважай своєї невільниці за негідницю, бо я говорила аж доти з великої своєї скорботи та з туги своєї.

17 T hen Eli answered and said, Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.

І відповів Ілій та й сказав: Іди з миром! А Бог Ізраїлів дасть тобі бажання твоє, яке ти від Нього жадала.

18 A nd she said, Let thy handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and ate, and her countenance was no longer sad.

А вона сказала: Нехай невільниця твоя знайде милість в очах твоїх! І пішла та жінка своєю дорогою, та й їла, а обличчя її не було вже сумне.

19 ¶ And they rose up in the morning early and worshipped before the LORD and returned and came to their house to Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her.

І встала вона рано вранці, і вклонилася перед Господнім лицем. І вернулися вони, і ввійшли до свого дому до Рами. І Елкана пізнав свою жінку Анну, а Господь згадав про неї.

20 T herefore, it came to pass when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, she bore a son and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.

І сталося по році, і завагітніла Анна, та й сина породила. І назвала вона ім'я йому: Самуїл, бо від Господа жадала його.

21 A nd the man Elkanah and all his house went up to offer unto the LORD the accustomed sacrifice and his vow.

І пішов той чоловік Елкана та ввесь дім його вчинити для Господа річну жертву та обітниці свої.

22 B ut Hannah did not go up, for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child is weaned, and then I will bring him that he may be presented before the LORD and abide there for ever.

А Анна не пішла, бо сказала до чоловіка свого: Аж коли буде відлучений цей хлопчик, то відведу його, і він з'явиться перед Господнім лицем, і назавжди позостанеться там!

23 A nd Elkanah, her husband, said unto her, Do what seems good unto thee; tarry until thou hast weaned him; only let the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode and gave her son suck until she weaned him.

І сказав їй чоловік її Елкана: Роби те, що добре в очах твоїх! Залишайся, аж поки відлучиш його, тільки нехай виконає Господь Своє слово. І залишалась та жінка, і годувала свого сина, аж поки вона відлучила його.

24 A nd when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks and one ephah of flour and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh; and the child was young.

А коли відлучила, то повела його з собою та з трьома бичками й одною ефою муки, і бурдюком вина, і привела його до Господнього дому до Шіло. А той хлопчик був ще малий.

25 A nd they slew a bullock and brought the child to Eli.

І зарізали бичка, і привели того хлопчика до Ілія.

26 A nd she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul lives, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD.

І вона сказала: О, пане мій, як жива душа твоя, мій пане, я та жінка, що стояла з тобою отут, щоб молитися Господеві.

27 F or this child I prayed, and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of him.

Я молилася за дитину цю, і Господь дав мені жадання моє, що я просила від Нього.

28 T herefore, I also have given him back to the LORD; as long as he lives he shall belong to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

А тепер я віддаю його Господеві на всі дні, скільки він жаданий для Господа. І вклонилася там Господеві.
