1 ¶ Thus hath the LORD said, Go and buy a potter’s earthen bottle, and take of the elders of the people and of the elders of the priests;

Господь сказав так: Іди, і купиш баньку в ганчара, і візьми собі з старших народу та з старших священиків.

2 a nd go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry by the east gate, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee.

І вийдеш до долини Бен-Гіннома, що при вході до Череп'яної брами, і будеш там оголошувати ті слова, що до тебе Я їх говоритиму.

3 T herefore thou shalt say, Hear ye the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem. Thus saith the LORD of the hosts, God of Israel: Behold, I bring evil upon this place, such that whoever hears of it, his ears shall tingle.

І скажеш: Послухайте слова Господнього, царі Юди та мешканці Єрусалиму! Так говорить Господь Саваот, Бог Ізраїлів: Ось Я зло наведу на це місце, так що всякому, хто почує про нього, задзвенить в його вухах!

4 B ecause they have forsaken me and have estranged this place; and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah and have filled this place with the blood of innocents;

Це за те, що вони залишили Мене, і вчинили чужим оце місце, і кадили у ньому для інших богів, що не знали їх ані вони, ні батьки їхні, ані юдейські царі, і кров'ю невинних наповнили місце оце,

5 a nd have built high places unto Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto this same Baal, which I did not command, nor speak, neither did it come into my mind.

і пагірки побудували Ваалові, щоб палити дітей своїх на огні цілопалення для Ваала, чого не велів Я і не говорив, і що на серце Мені не приходило!

6 T herefore, behold, the days come, said the LORD, that this place shall no longer be called Tophet, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of the slaughter.

Тому наступають ось дні, говорить Господь, що не буде вже зватися місце це Тофет і Долина Бен-Гіннома, а тільки Долина Убивства.

7 A nd I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place, and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies and by the hands of those that seek their souls and I will give their carcasses to be food for the fowls of the heaven and for the beasts of the earth.

І знищу на місці цьому раду Юдину та Єрусалиму, і впадуть від меча перед їхніми ворогами та від руки тих, хто шукає їхньої душі, і дам падло їхнє на стерво для птаства небесного та для земної звірини...

8 A nd I will make this city desolate and a hissing; every one that passes thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all its plagues.

І вчиню оце місце страхіттям і посміхом, кожен, хто буде проходити ним, остовпіє й засвище, побачивши всі його врази...

9 A nd I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and each one shall eat the flesh of his friend in the siege and straitness, with which their enemies and those that seek their souls shall straiten them.

І вчиню, що вони будуть їсти тіло синів своїх й тіло дочок своїх, і тіло один одного їсти вони будуть в облозі та в утискові, яким будуть тиснути їх вороги їхні та ті, хто буде шукати їхню душу...

10 ¶ Then thou shalt break the bottle in the sight of the men that go with thee,

І розіб'єш баньку на очах тих людей, що ходять з тобою,

11 a nd shalt say unto them, Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said: Even so will I break this people and this city as one breaks a potter’s vessel that cannot be restored again; and they shall bury them in Tophet, for there shall be no other place to bury.

та й скажеш до них: Так говорить Господь Саваот: Отак розіб'ю Я народ цей та місто оце, як розбивається посуд ганчарський, що не може вже бути направленим, і будуть ховати у Тофеті через брак місця на погреб...

12 T hus will I do unto this place, saith the LORD, and to its inhabitants and even make this city as Tophet:

Так зроблю цьому місцю, говорить Господь, та мешканцям його, щоб зробити це місто, як Тофет...

13 A nd the houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah, shall be as the place of Tophet, defiled, because of all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of the heaven and have poured out drink offerings unto other gods.

І стануть доми Єрусалиму та доми царів Юди, як місце те Тофет, нечисті усі ті доми, що кадили на їхніх дахах усім небесним світилам, та лили жертви литі для інших богів!

14 T hen Jeremiah returned from Tophet, where the LORD had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of the LORD’s house and said to all the people,

І прийшов Єремія з Тофету, куди посилав його Господь пророкувати, і став у дворі Господнього дому, і сказав до всього народу:

15 T hus hath the LORD of the hosts, God of Israel said: Behold, I bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have spoken against her because they have hardened their necks that they might not hear my words.

Так говорить Господь Саваот, Бог Ізраїлів: Ось спроваджу до міста цього та до всіх його міст усе те лихо, що Я говорив був на нього, бо вчинили вони свою шию твердою, щоб не слухатися Моїх слів!
