1 ¶ And the king sent, and they gathered unto him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.

А цар послав, і зібрали до нього всіх старших Юди та Єрусалиму.

2 A nd the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests and the prophets and all the people, from the smallest to the greatest; and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which had been found in the house of the LORD.

І ввійшов до Господнього дому цар та кожен муж Юди, а з ним усі мешканці Єрусалиму, і священики, і пророки, і ввесь народ від малого й аж до великого, і він прочитав до їхніх ушей усі слова Книги Заповіту, знайденої в Господньому домі.

3 A nd the king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before the LORD, that they would walk after the LORD and keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in that book. And all the people confirmed the covenant.

І став цар на підвищенні, і склав заповіта перед Господнім лицем, щоб ходити за Господом та додержувати заповіді Його, і свідчення Його, і постанови Його всім серцем та всією душею, щоб виконати слова того заповіту, що написані в тій книзі. І ввесь народ пристав до заповіту.

4 ¶ And the king commanded Hilkiah, the high priest, and the priests of the second order and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels that had been made for Baal and for the grove and for all the host of heaven; and he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron and caused their dust to be carried unto Bethel.

І наказав цар Хілкійї, великому священикові, й іншим священикам та сторожам порога, щоб повиносили з Господнього храму всі речі, зроблені для Ваала та для Астарти, та для всіх небесних світил. І він попалив їх поза Єрусалимом на кедронських полях, а їхній порох відніс до Бет-Елу.

5 A nd he put down the religious persons whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah and in the places round about Jerusalem; likewise, those that burned incense unto Baal, to the sun and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.

І він поскидав жерців, що їх понаставляли були Юдині царі, і що вони кадили на пагірках по Юдиних містах та в околицях Єрусалиму, і кадили для Ваала, і для сонця, і для місяця, і для планет, і для всіх небесних світил.

6 A nd he brought out the graven image of the grove from the house of the LORD outside Jerusalem unto the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron and stamped it small to powder and cast the powder of it upon the graves of the sons of the people.

І він виніс Астарту з Господнього дому поза Єрусалим до кедронської долини, та й спалив її в кедронській долині, і стер на порох, а її порох кинув на гроби звичайних людей.

7 H e likewise broke down the houses of the male cult prostitutes that were by the house of the LORD where the women wove hangings for the grove.

І він порозбивав доми культу блудодійників, що були при Господньому домі, де жінки ткали завісу для Астарти.

8 A nd he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beersheba, and broke down the high places of the gates that were in the entering in of the gate of Joshua, the governor of the city, which were on a man’s left hand at the gate of the city.

І він випровадив усіх священиків з Юдиних міст, і опоганив пагірки, де священики кадили, від Ґеви аж до Беер-Шеви, і порозбивав пагірки брам, що були при вході брами Ісуса, зверхника міста, що ліворуч тому, хто входив до брами міста.

9 N evertheless, the priests of the high places did not come up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, but they did eat of the unleavened bread among their brethren.

Але священики пагірків не входили до Господнього жертівника в Єрусалимі, а тільки їли прісне серед своїх братів.

10 A nd he defiled Tophet, which is in the valley of the sons of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.

І він опоганив місце ставлення на огні, що в долині Гінномового сина, щоб ніхто не переводив через огонь сина свого та дочку свою для Молоха.

11 A nd he took away the horses that the kings of Judah had dedicated to the sun, at the entrance of the house of the LORD, by the chamber of Nathanmelech, the chamberlain who was in charge of the Parbar, and burned the chariots of the sun with fire.

І він повідставляв коні, яких давали Юдині царі для сонця, від входу до Господнього дому, при кімнаті євнуха Нетан-Мелеха, що був у Парварімі, а колесниці сонця попалив ув огні.

12 A nd the king cast down the altars that were on the top of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the LORD and made haste and cast the dust of them into the brook Kidron.

А жертівники, що були на даху Ахазової горниці, що поробили Юдині царі, та жертівники, що поробив Манасія на двох подвір'ях Господнього дому, цар порозбивав. І він звідти побіг, і кинув їхній порох до кедронського потоку.

13 L ikewise, the king defiled the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mount of corruption, which Solomon, the king of Israel, had built unto Ashtoreth, the abomination of the Zidonians, and unto Chemosh, the abomination of the Moabites, and unto Milcom, the abomination of the sons of Ammon.

А пагірки, що навпроти Єрусалиму, праворуч гори Згуби, які побудував був Соломон, Ізраїлів цар, для Астарти, гидоти сидонської, і для Кемота, гидоти моавської, і для Мілкома, гидоти Аммонових синів, цар поопоганював.

14 A nd he broke the images in pieces and cut down the groves and filled their places with the bones of men.

І він порозбивав стовпи для богів, і постинав посвячені дерева, а їхнє місце наповнив людськими кістками.

15 L ikewise, the altar that was at Bethel and the high place which Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin, had made: both that altar and the high place he broke down and burned the high place and stamped it small to powder and burned the grove.

А також жертівника, що в Бет-Елі, пагірка, що зробив був Єровоам, син Неватів, що ввів у гріх Ізраїля, також жертівника цього та цього пагірка він розбив, і спалив того пагірка та стер на порох, і Астарту спалив.

16 A nd as Josiah turned himself, he spied the sepulchres that were there in the mount and sent and took the bones out of the sepulchres and burned them upon the altar and polluted it, according to the word of the LORD which the man of God proclaimed, who had proclaimed these words.

І обернувся Йосія, та й побачив гроби, що були там на горі. І послав він, і позабирав кості з гробів, і попалив на жертівнику, і опоганив його, за словом Господнім, яке кликав був Божий чоловік, що прорікав оці речі.

17 T hen he said, What title is this that I see? And the men of the city told him, It is the sepulchre of the man of God, who came from Judah and proclaimed these things that thou hast done against the altar of Bethel.

І сказав цар: Що це за надгробок, що я бачу? А люди того міста сказали йому: Це надгробок Божого чоловіка, що прийшов з Юдеї й прорік оці речі, які зробив ти на жертівнику в Бет-Елі.

18 A nd he said, Let him alone; let no one move his bones. So his bones were saved along with the bones of the prophet that had come out of Samaria.

А він сказав: Дайте йому спокій, нехай ніхто не рухає костей його. І зберегли його кості, кості того пророка, що прийшов був із Самарії.

19 A nd all the houses also of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke the LORD to anger, Josiah took away and did to them according to all the acts that he had done in Bethel.

А також усі доми пагірків, що по самарійських містах, що поробили були Ізраїлеві царі, щоб гнівити Господа, Йосія понищив, і зробив з ними те саме, що зробив у Бет-Елі.

20 A nd he slew all the priests of the high places that were there upon the altars and burned men’s bones upon them and returned to Jerusalem.

І порізав він усіх священиків пагірків, що були там, на жертівниках, і попалив на них людські кості, та й вернувся до Єрусалиму.

21 T hen the king commanded all the people, saying, Make the passover unto the LORD your God, as it is written in the book of this covenant.

І наказав цар усьому народові, говорячи: Справте Пасху для Господа, вашого Бога, як написано в оцій Книзі Заповіту.

22 S uch a passover had not been made since the days of the judges that judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel, nor of the kings of Judah.

Бо не справлялася ця Пасха від днів суддів, що судили Ізраїля, по всі дні царів Ізраїлевих та царів Юдиних.

23 I n the year eighteen of King Josiah, this passover was made unto the LORD in Jerusalem.

І тільки вісімнадцятого року царя Йосії справлялася Пасха для Господа в Єрусалимі.

24 I n the same manner Josiah burned the spiritists, the diviners, the teraphim, the idols, and all the abominations that were spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, that he might confirm the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest had found in the house of the LORD.

А також викликачів духів померлих, і духів віщих, і домових божків, і бовванів, і всякі гидоти, що появилися в Юдинім краї та в Єрусалимі, повинищував Йосія, щоб поставити слова Закону, написані в книзі, що знайшов священик Хілкійя в Господньому домі.

25 ¶ There was no king before him that converted like this to the LORD with all his heart and all his soul and all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither did any like him arise after him.

А такого царя, як він, не було перед ним, що навернувся б до Господа всім своїм серцем, і всією душею своєю, і всією силою своєю, за всім Мойсеєвим Законом, і по ньому не повставав такий, як він.

26 E ven with all this the LORD did not turn from the fierceness of his great wrath, with which his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked him to wrath.

Тільки не спинився Господь від ревности Свого великого гніву, яким запалився Його гнів на Юду за всі огірчення, якими гнівив Його Манасія.

27 A nd the LORD said, I must also remove Judah out of my sight as I have removed Israel, and I must reject this city Jerusalem which I had chosen and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.

І сказав Господь: Також Юду відкину Я від лиця Свого, як відкинув Я Ізраїля, і відкину це місто, яке вибрав, Єрусалим, та цей храм, про який Я сказав: Ім'я Моє буде там!

28 N ow the rest of the acts of Josiah and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

А решта діл Йосії та все, що він робив, ото вони написані в Книзі Хроніки Юдиних царів.

29 I n his days Pharaohnechoh, king of Egypt, went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates; and King Josiah went against him; but as soon as he saw him, he slew him at Megiddo.

За його днів пішов фараон Нехо, єгипетський цар, на асирійського царя, на річку Єфрат. І вийшов цар Йосія навпроти нього, та той убив його в Меґіддо, коли він побачив його...

30 A nd his slaves carried him in a chariot dead from Megiddo and brought him to Jerusalem and buried him in his own sepulchre. Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz, the son of Josiah, and anointed him and made him king in his father’s stead.

І його раби повезли його мертвого з Меґіддо, і привезли його до Єрусалиму, і поховали його в гробівці його. А народ Краю взяв Єгоахаза, сина Йосії, і помазали його, та й настановили його царем замість його батька.

31 ¶ Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

Єгоахаз був віку двадцяти й трьох літ, коли він зацарював, і царював в Єрусалимі три місяці. А ім'я його матері Хамуталь, дочка Єремії, з Лівни.

32 A nd he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.

І робив він зло в Господніх очах, усе так, як робили його батьки.

33 A nd Pharaohnechoh put him in bonds at Riblah in the land of Hamath, as he was reigning in Jerusalem; and put the land to a tribute of one hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.

І фараон Нехо зв'язав його в Рівлі, в гаматському краї, щоб він не царював в Єрусалимі, і наклав кару на цей край, сто талантів срібла та талант золота.

34 T hen Pharaohnechoh made Eliakim, the son of Josiah, king in the place of Josiah his father and changed his name to Jehoiakim and took Jehoahaz and carried him to Egypt, and he died there.

А царем настановив фараон Нехо Ел'якима, сина Йосії, замість батька його Йосії, і змінив ім'я його на Єгояким. А Єгоахаза він узяв, і той прибув до Єгипту та й помер там.

35 A nd Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh, but he caused the land to be valued to give this money according to the commandment of Pharaoh; he exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the land, of each one according to the estimation of his worth, to give it unto Pharaohnechoh.

І Єгояким давав фараонові срібла та золота; тільки розклав це на Край, щоб давати те срібло на фараонів наказ, він стягав те срібло та золото з народу Краю за оцінкою землі кожного, щоб віддати фараонові Нехо.

36 J ehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Zebudah, the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.

Єгояким був віку двадцяти й п'яти літ, коли він зацарював, і одинадцять років царював в Єрусалимі. А ім'я його матері Зевуда, дочка Педаї, з Руми.

37 A nd he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.

І робив він зло в Господніх очах, усе так, як робили батьки його.
