1 ¶ Since the Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, be ye also armed with the same thought; for he that has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,

Отож, коли тілом Христос постраждав за нас, то озбройтеся й ви тією самою думкою, бо хто тілом постраждав, той перестав грішити,

2 s o that now the time that remains in the flesh, he might live, not unto the lusts of men, but unto the will of God.

щоб решту часу в тілі жити вже не для пожадливостей людських, а для Божої волі.

3 F or it should suffice us that during the time past of our life we had done the will of the Gentiles, when we conversed in lasciviousness, lusts, drunkenness, gluttony, orgies, and abominable idolatries.

Бо досить минулого часу, коли ви чинили волю поган, ходили в розпусті, у пожадливостях, у піяцтві, у гулянках, у піятиках, у беззаконних ідолослужбах.

4 ¶ And it seems strange to those that speak evil of you, that ye do not run with them to the same unchecked dissolution;

Вони з того дивуються, що ви разом із ними не берете участи в розпусті, та зневажають.

5 t he same shall give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead.

Вони дадуть відповідь Тому, Хто судитиме живих та мертвих!

6 B ecause for this cause was the gospel preached also to those that are dead, that they might be judged in flesh according to men, but live in spirit according to God.

Бо на те й мертвим звіщувано Євангелію, щоб вони прийняли суд по-людському тілом, але жили по-Божому духом.

7 ¶ But the end of all things is at hand; be ye, therefore, temperate and watch unto prayer.

Кінець же всьому наблизився. Отже, будьте мудрі й пильнуйте в молитвах!

8 A nd above all things have fervent charity among yourselves; for charity shall cover a multitude of sins.

Найперше майте щиру любов один до одного, бо любов покриває багато гріхів!

9 L ovingly be hospitable one to another without murmuring.

Будьте гостинні один до одного без нехоті!

10 L et each one according to the gift that he has received, administer it unto the others, as a good steward of the diverse graces of God.

Служіть один одному, кожен тим даром, якого отримав, як доморядники всілякої Божої благодаті.

11 I f anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God; if anyone ministers, let them do it according to the virtue which God gives, that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus, the Christ, unto whom is glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Коли хто говорить, говори, як Божі слова. Коли хто служить, то служи, як від сили, яку дає Бог, щоб Бог прославлявся в усьому Ісусом Христом, що Йому слава та влада на віки вічні, амінь.

12 ¶ Beloved, think it not strange when you are tried by fire (which is done to prove you) as though some strange thing happened unto you,

Улюблені, не дивуйтесь огневі, що вам посилається на випробовування, немов би чужому випадку для вас.

13 b ut rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of the afflictions of the Christ, so that also in the revelation of his glory, ye may rejoice in triumph.

Але через те, що берете ви участь у Христових стражданнях, то тіштеся, щоб і в з'явленні слави Його раділи ви й звеселялись.

14 I f ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are ye; for the glory and the Spirit of God rests upon you; certainly on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.

Коли ж вас ганьблять за Христове Ім'я, то ви блаженні, бо на вас спочиває Дух слави й Дух Божий.

15 S o let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as desirous of the things of others.

Ніхто з вас хай не страждає, як душогуб, або злодій, або злочинець, або ворохобник,

16 B ut if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God on this behalf.

а коли як християнин, то нехай не соромиться він, але хай прославляє Бога за те.

17 F or it is time that the judgment begins from the house of God; and if it first begins with us, what shall the end be of those that do not obey the gospel of God?

Бо час уже суд розпочати від Божого дому; а коли він почнеться перше з нас, то який кінець тих, хто противиться Божій Євангелії?

18 A nd if the righteous are saved with difficulty, where shall the unfaithful and the sinner appear?

А коли праведний ледве спасеться, то безбожний та грішний де зможе з'явитись?

19 T herefore, let those that are afflicted according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls unto him as unto a faithful Creator, doing good.

Тому й ті, хто з Божої волі страждає, нехай душі свої віддадуть в доброчинстві Йому, як Створителю вірному.
