1 ¶ Since the Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, be ye also armed with the same thought; for he that has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,

Por tanto, puesto que Cristo ha padecido en la carne, armaos también vosotros con el mismo propósito, pues quien ha padecido en la carne ha terminado con el pecado,

2 s o that now the time that remains in the flesh, he might live, not unto the lusts of men, but unto the will of God.

para vivir el tiempo que le queda en la carne, no ya para las pasiones humanas, sino para la voluntad de Dios.

3 F or it should suffice us that during the time past of our life we had done the will of the Gentiles, when we conversed in lasciviousness, lusts, drunkenness, gluttony, orgies, and abominable idolatries.

Porque el tiempo ya pasado os es suficiente para haber hecho lo que agrada a los gentiles, habiendo andado en sensualidad, lujurias, borracheras, orgías, embriagueces y abominables idolatrías.

4 ¶ And it seems strange to those that speak evil of you, that ye do not run with them to the same unchecked dissolution;

Y en todo esto, se sorprenden de que no corráis con ellos en el mismo desenfreno de disolución, y os ultrajan;

5 t he same shall give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead.

pero ellos darán cuenta a aquel que está preparado para juzgar a los vivos y a los muertos.

6 B ecause for this cause was the gospel preached also to those that are dead, that they might be judged in flesh according to men, but live in spirit according to God.

Porque con este fin fue predicado el evangelio aun a los muertos, para que aunque sean juzgados en la carne como hombres, vivan en el espíritu conforme a la voluntad de Dios. El fin de todas las cosas y la conducta cristiana

7 ¶ But the end of all things is at hand; be ye, therefore, temperate and watch unto prayer.

Mas el fin de todas las cosas se acerca; sed pues prudentes y de espíritu sobrio para la oración.

8 A nd above all things have fervent charity among yourselves; for charity shall cover a multitude of sins.

Sobre todo, sed fervientes en vuestro amor los unos por los otros, pues el amor cubre multitud de pecados.

9 L ovingly be hospitable one to another without murmuring.

Sed hospitalarios los unos para con los otros, sin murmuraciones.

10 L et each one according to the gift that he has received, administer it unto the others, as a good steward of the diverse graces of God.

Según cada uno ha recibido un don especial, úselo sirviéndoos los unos a los otros como buenos administradores de la multiforme gracia de Dios.

11 I f anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God; if anyone ministers, let them do it according to the virtue which God gives, that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus, the Christ, unto whom is glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

El que habla, que hable conforme a las palabras de Dios; el que sirve, que lo haga por la fortaleza que Dios da, para que en todo Dios sea glorificado mediante Jesucristo, a quien pertenecen la gloria y el dominio por los siglos de los siglos. Amén. Sufriendo como cristianos

12 ¶ Beloved, think it not strange when you are tried by fire (which is done to prove you) as though some strange thing happened unto you,

Amados, no os sorprendáis del fuego de prueba que en medio de vosotros ha venido para probaros, como si alguna cosa extraña os estuviera aconteciendo;

13 b ut rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of the afflictions of the Christ, so that also in the revelation of his glory, ye may rejoice in triumph.

antes bien, en la medida en que compartís los padecimientos de Cristo, regocijaos, para que también en la revelación de su gloria os regocijéis con gran alegría.

14 I f ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are ye; for the glory and the Spirit of God rests upon you; certainly on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.

Si sois vituperados por el nombre de Cristo, dichosos sois, pues el Espíritu de gloria y de Dios reposa sobre vosotros. Ciertamente, por ellos El es blasfemado, pero por vosotros es glorificado.

15 S o let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as desirous of the things of others.

Que de ninguna manera sufra alguno de vosotros como homicida, o ladrón, o malhechor, o por entrometido.

16 B ut if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God on this behalf.

Pero si alguno sufre como cristiano, que no se avergüence, sino que como tal glorifique a Dios.

17 F or it is time that the judgment begins from the house of God; and if it first begins with us, what shall the end be of those that do not obey the gospel of God?

Porque es tiempo de que el juicio comience por la casa de Dios; y si comienza por nosotros primero, ¿cuál será el fin de los que no obedecen al evangelio de Dios ?

18 A nd if the righteous are saved with difficulty, where shall the unfaithful and the sinner appear?

Y si el justo con dificultad se salva, ¿que sera del impio y del pecador ?

19 T herefore, let those that are afflicted according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls unto him as unto a faithful Creator, doing good.

Por consiguiente, los que sufren conforme a la voluntad de Dios, encomienden sus almas al fiel Creador, haciendo el bien.
