1 ¶ In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea

En aquellos días llegó Juan el Bautista predicando en el desierto de Judea, diciendo:

2 a nd saying, Repent ye, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Arrepentíos, porque el reino de los cielos se ha acercado.

3 F or this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, who said, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord; make his paths straight.

Porque este es aquel a quien se refirió el profeta Isaías, diciendo: Voz del que clama en el desierto: “ Preparad el camino del Señor, haced derechas sus sendas.”

4 A nd the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair and a leathern girdle about his loins, and his food was locusts and wild honey.

Y él, Juan, tenía un vestido de pelo de camello y un cinto de cuero a la cintura; y su comida era de langostas y miel silvestre.

5 T hen Jerusalem and all Judaea and all the region round about Jordan went out to him

Acudía entonces a él Jerusalén, toda Judea y toda la región alrededor del Jordán;

6 a nd were baptized of him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.

y confesando sus pecados, eran bautizados por él en el río Jordán.

7 ¶ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who taught you to flee from the wrath to come?

Pero cuando vio que muchos de los fariseos y saduceos venían para el bautismo, les dijo: ¡Camada de víboras! ¿Quién os enseñó a huir de la ira que vendrá ?

8 B ring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance

Por tanto, dad frutos dignos de arrepentimiento;

9 a nd think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham as our father, for I say unto you that God is able to raise up children unto Abraham of these stones.

y no presumáis que podéis deciros a vosotros mismos: “Tenemos a Abraham por padre ”, porque os digo que Dios puede levantar hijos a Abraham de estas piedras.

10 A nd now the axe is also laid unto the root of the trees; therefore, every tree which does not bring forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire.

Y el hacha ya está puesta a la raíz de los árboles; por tanto, todo árbol que no da buen fruto es cortado y echado al fuego.

11 I indeed baptize you in water unto repentance, but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear; he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire,

Yo a la verdad os bautizo con agua para arrepentimiento, pero el que viene detrás de mí es más poderoso que yo, a quien no soy digno de quitarle las sandalias; El os bautizará con el Espíritu Santo y con fuego.

12 w hose fan is in his hand; and he will thoroughly purge his threshing floor and gather his wheat into the storehouse, but he will burn up the chaff with fire that shall never be quenched.

El bieldo está en su mano y limpiará completamente su era; y recogerá su trigo en el granero, pero quemará la paja en fuego inextinguible. Bautismo de Jesús

13 ¶ Then Jesus came from Galilee to Jordan unto John to be baptized of him.

Entonces Jesús llegó de Galilea al Jordán, a donde estaba Juan, para ser bautizado por él.

14 B ut John resisted him much, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

Pero Juan trató de impedírselo, diciendo: Yo necesito ser bautizado por ti, ¿y tú vienes a mí?

15 A nd Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now, for thus it is expedient for us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

Y respondiendo Jesús, le dijo: Permíte lo ahora; porque es conveniente que cumplamos así toda justicia. Entonces Juan se lo permitió.

16 A nd Jesus, after he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water; and, behold, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting upon him;

Después de ser bautizado, Jesús salió del agua inmediatamente; y he aquí, los cielos se abrieron, y él vio al Espíritu de Dios que descendía como una paloma y venía sobre El.

17 a nd, behold, a voice from the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Y he aquí, se oyó una voz de los cielos que decía: Este es mi Hijo amado en quien me he complacido.
