1 ¶ Thus hath the LORD said; Behold, I raise up against Babylon and against her inhabitants that rise up against me from the heart, a destroying wind.

Así dice el Señor: He aquí, levanto contra Babilonia y contra los habitantes de Leb Camay el espíritu de un destructor.

2 A nd I will send unto Babylon fanners that shall fan her and shall empty her land; for in the day of trouble they shall be against her round about.

Y enviaré extranjeros a Babilonia que la aventarán y vaciarán su tierra; porque estarán contra ella por todos lados el día de su tribulación.

3 I shall say to the archer that bends his bow and unto him that lifts himself up in his brigandine, Spare ye not her young men; utterly destroy all her host.

Que no entese el entesador su arco, ni se levante con su coraza; no perdonéis a sus jóvenes; entregad a la destrucción todo su ejército.

4 T hus the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans and those that are thrust through in her streets.

Caerán muertos en la tierra de los caldeos, y traspasados en sus calles.

5 F or Israel and Judah have not been made widows of their God, of the LORD of the hosts, though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel.

Porque no ha sido abandonado Israel ni Judá por su Dios, el Señor de los ejércitos, aunque su tierra está llena de culpa delante del Santo de Israel.

6 F lee out of the midst of Babylon and deliver each one his soul that ye not perish because of her iniquity, for this is the time of the LORD’s vengeance; he will render unto her a recompense.

Huid de en medio de Babilonia, y salve cada uno su vida. No perezcáis por su culpa, pues este es el tiempo de la venganza del Señor; El le dará su pago.

7 B abylon has been a golden cup in the LORD’s hand that made all the earth drunken: the Gentiles have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

Copa de oro ha sido Babilonia en la mano del Señor, que embriagaba toda la tierra. De su vino bebieron las naciones; se enloquecieron, por tanto, las naciones.

8 B abylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed; howl for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.

De repente cae Babilonia y se hace pedazos. Gemid por ella, traed bálsamo para su dolor; quizá se cure.

9 W e applied the medicine to Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go each one into his own land; for her judgment is come unto heaven and is lifted up even to the clouds.

Quisimos curar a Babilonia, pero no ha sanado; dejadla, y vayamos cada cual a su tierra, porque ha llegado al cielo su juicio, se ha elevado hasta las nubes.

10 T he LORD has brought our righteousness to light; come, and let us declare in Zion the work of the LORD our God.

El Señor ha sacado a la luz nuestra justicia; venid y contemos en Sion la obra del Señor nuestro Dios.

11 M ake bright the arrows; gather the shields; the LORD has awakened the spirit of the kings of the Medes; for his thought is against Babylon to destroy her; for it is vengeance of the LORD, the vengeance of his temple.

Afilad las flechas, llenad las aljabas; el Señor ha despertado el espíritu de los reyes de Media, porque su plan contra Babilonia es destruirla; porque esta es la venganza del Señor, la venganza de su templo.

12 S et up the banner upon the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the watchmen, prepare the ambushes; for the LORD has deliberated and shall put into effect that which he spoke against the inhabitants of Babylon.

Levantad bandera contra los muros de Babilonia; reforzad la guardia, apostad centinelas, preparad emboscadas; porque el Señor ha decidido, y también ejecutará lo que habló acerca de los habitantes de Babilonia.

13 O thou that dwellest among many waters, rich in treasures, thine end is come, the measure of thy covetousness.

Oh, tú, que moras junto a muchas aguas, rica en tesoros, ha llegado tu fin, el término de tu codicia.

14 T he LORD of the hosts has sworn by himself, saying, Surely I will fill thee with men as with locusts; and they shall sing the song of the winepress against thee.

El Señor de los ejércitos ha jurado por sí mismo: Ciertamente te llenaré de hombres como langostas, y entonarán contra ti gritos de victoria.

15 H e is the one who makes the earth by his power; he upholds the world by his wisdom and extends the heavens by his intelligence;

El es el que hizo la tierra con su poder, el que estableció el mundo con su sabiduría, y con su inteligencia extendió los cielos.

16 h e who gives with his voice a multitude of waters from heaven, then he causes the clouds to ascend from the ends of the earth; he makes lightnings with the rain and brings forth the wind out of his treasures.

Cuando emite su voz, hay tumulto de aguas en los cielos, y hace subir las nubes desde los confines de la tierra. El produce los relámpagos para la lluvia, y saca el viento de sus depósitos.

17 E very man has become carnal and is without knowledge; let every founder be ashamed of the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

Toda la humanidad es necia, falta de conocimiento; se avergüenza todo orfebre de sus ídolos, porque sus imágenes fundidas son engaño, y no hay aliento en ellas.

18 T hey are vanity, the work of errors; in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

Vanidad son, obra ridícula; en el tiempo de su castigo perecerán.

19 T he portion of Jacob is not like them; for he is the Former of all things; and Israel is the rod of his inheritance; the LORD of the hosts is his name.

No es como estas cosas la porción de Jacob; porque El es el Hacedor de todo, y de la tribu de su heredad; el Señor de los ejércitos es su nombre.

20 T hou art my hammer, O weapons of war: for with thee I will break in pieces the Gentiles, and with thee I will destroy kingdoms;

El dice: Eres mi maza, mi arma de guerra; contigo destrozaré naciones, contigo destruiré reinos,

21 a nd with thee I will break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with thee I will break in pieces the chariots and their riders;

contigo destrozaré el caballo y a su jinete, contigo destrozaré al carro y al que lo conduce,

22 w ith thee also I will break in pieces men and women; and with thee I will break in pieces old and young; and with thee I will break in pieces young men and virgins;

contigo destrozaré al hombre y a la mujer, contigo destrozaré al viejo y al joven, contigo destrozaré al mancebo y a la virgen,

23 I will also break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his flock; and with thee I will break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee I will break in pieces dukes and princes.

contigo destrozaré al pastor y su rebaño, contigo destrozaré al labrador y su yunta y contigo destrozaré a los gobernadores y a los magistrados.

24 A nd I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, said the LORD.

Y pagaré a Babilonia y a todos los habitantes de Caldea todo el mal que han hecho en Sion delante de vuestros ojos —declara el Señor.

25 B ehold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, said the LORD, which destroys all the earth; and I will stretch out my hand upon thee and roll thee down from the rocks and will make thee a burnt mountain.

He aquí, yo estoy contra ti, monte destructor, que destruyes toda la tierra —declara el Señor. Extenderé mi mano contra ti, te haré rodar desde las peñas y te reduciré a monte quemado.

26 A nd they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but thou shalt be desolate for ever, said the LORD.

Y no tomarán de ti piedra angular, ni piedra para cimientos, pues desolación eterna serás —declara el Señor.

27 S et ye up a banner in the land, blow the shofar among the Gentiles, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz; appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up as raised up locusts.

Levantad señal en la tierra, tocad trompeta entre las naciones. Reunid las naciones contra ella, convocad contra ella los reinos de Ararat, Mini y Asquenaz; nombrad contra ella capitán, haced subir caballos como langostas erizadas.

28 P repare the nations against her: the kings of Media, the captains thereof, and all the princes thereof, and all the land of their dominion.

Reunid a las naciones contra ella, a los reyes de Media, a sus gobernadores, a todos sus magistrados y a toda la tierra de su dominio.

29 A nd the land shall tremble and sorrow for every thought of the LORD is confirmed against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without an inhabitant.

La tierra tiembla y se retuerce, porque se cumplen los designios del Señor contra Babilonia de hacer de la tierra de Babilonia una desolación, sin habitantes.

30 T he mighty men of Babylon have forborne to fight; they have remained in their holds; their might has failed; they became as women: the enemies have burned her dwellingplaces; they have broken her bars.

Han dejado de luchar los valientes de Babilonia, permanecen en las fortalezas; se han agotado sus fuerzas, se han vuelto como mujeres; han sido incendiadas sus moradas, rotos están sus cerrojos.

31 O ne post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to show the king of Babylon that his city is taken in all places,

Un correo corre al encuentro de otro y un mensajero al encuentro de otro, para decirle al rey de Babilonia que su ciudad ha sido tomada de un extremo al otro;

32 A nd the fords were taken, and they have burned the reeds with fire, and the men of war were astounded.

también los vados han sido ocupados, y quemados a fuego los juncos, y los guerreros están aterrados.

33 F or thus hath the LORD of the hosts, the God of Israel said: The daughter of Babylon is like a threshingfloor; it is now time to thresh her: yet a little while, and the time of her harvest shall come.

Porque así dice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: La hija de Babilonia es como una era al tiempo de ser hollada; dentro de poco, le llegará el tiempo de la siega.

34 N ebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me; he has crushed me; he has made me an empty vessel, he has swallowed me up like a dragon; he has filled his belly with my delicates; he has cast me out.

Me ha devorado y aplastado Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, me ha dejado como vaso vacío, me ha tragado como un monstruo, ha llenado su estómago de mis delicias, me ha expulsado.

35 T he violence against me and my flesh be upon Babylon, shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and my blood upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say.

Caiga sobre Babilonia la violencia hecha a mí y a mi carne —dirá la moradora de Sion. Caiga mi sangre sobre los habitantes de Caldea —dirá Jerusalén.

36 T herefore thus hath the LORD said: Behold, I judge thy cause and shall take thy vengeance; and I will dry up her sea and make her flowing waters dry.

Por tanto, así dice el Señor: He aquí, yo defenderé tu causa, y ejecutaré tu venganza; secaré su mar y haré que se sequen sus manantiales.

37 A nd Babylon shall become heaps, a dwellingplace for dragons, an astonishment, and a hissing, without an inhabitant.

Y Babilonia se convertirá en escombros, en guarida de chacales, en objeto de horror y de burla, sin habitantes.

38 T hey shall roar together like lions; they shall roar as lions’ whelps.

A una como leones rugirán, gruñirán como cachorros de león.

39 I n their heat I will place their feasts before them, and I will make them drunken that they may rejoice and sleep an eternal sleep and not wake, said the LORD.

Cuando entren en calor, les serviré su banquete y los embriagaré, para que se diviertan, duerman un sueño eterno y no despierten —declara el Señor.

40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with he goats.

Los haré bajar como corderos al matadero, como carneros y machos cabríos.

41 H ow is Sheshach a prey! and how is she who was the praise of the whole earth taken! how is Babylon become an astonishment among the Gentiles!

¡Cómo ha sido tomada Sesac, y arrebatada la gloria de toda la tierra! ¡Cómo se ha convertido Babilonia en objeto de horror entre las naciones!

42 T he sea is come up upon Babylon; she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof.

El mar ha subido sobre Babilonia; con la multitud de sus olas ha sido cubierta.

43 H er cities were devastated, the land dry and desert, a land in which no man dwells, neither shall any son of man pass thereby.

Sus ciudades se han convertido en desolación, en sequedal y yermo; una tierra en la cual nadie habita, y por la cual ningún hijo de hombre pasa.

44 A nd I will visit Bel himself in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he has swallowed up; and the Gentiles shall not flow together any more unto him; and the wall of Babylon shall fall.

Y castigaré a Bel en Babilonia, sacaré de su boca lo que se ha tragado, y no afluirán más a él las naciones. Aun la muralla de Babilonia caerá.

45 C ome out of the midst of her, my people, and save each one his life from the fierce anger of the LORD.

Salid de en medio de ella, pueblo mío, y salve cada uno su vida del ardor de la ira del Señor.

46 A nd lest your heart faint, and ye fear because of the news that shall be heard in the land; in one year shall the news come, and after that in the next year shall come the rumour, and then shall come the violence in the land, and the ruler over him who rules.

Y que no desmaye vuestro corazón, ni temáis al rumor que se oirá en la tierra; porque el rumor vendrá un año, y después otro rumor en otro año, y habrá violencia en la tierra con gobernante contra gobernante.

47 T herefore, behold, the days come that I will visit the graven images of Babylon; and her whole land shall be ashamed, and all her dead shall fall in the midst of her.

Por tanto, he aquí, vienen días en que castigaré a los ídolos de Babilonia; será avergonzada toda su tierra, y todos sus muertos caerán en medio de ella.

48 T hen the heavens and the earth and all that is therein shall sing praises over Babylon; for the destroyers shall come unto her from the north, said the LORD.

Entonces gritarán de gozo sobre Babilonia el cielo y la tierra y todo lo que en ellos hay, porque del norte vendrán a ella destructores —declara el Señor.

49 A s Babylon has caused the dead of Israel to fall, so because of Babylon the dead of all the earth fell.

Ciertamente caerá Babilonia por los muertos de Israel, como también por Babilonia han caído los muertos de toda la tierra.

50 Y e that have escaped the sword, go away, do not tarry: remember the LORD for many days, and remember Jerusalem.

Los que escapasteis de la espada, partid, no os detengáis; acordaos desde lejos del Señor, y venga Jerusalén a vuestra memoria.

51 W e are ashamed, because we have heard the reproach; confusion has covered our faces; for strangers are come against the sanctuaries of the LORD’s house.

Estamos avergonzados porque hemos oído la afrenta; la ignominia ha cubierto nuestros rostros, porque extranjeros han entrado en los santuarios de la casa del Señor.

52 T herefore, behold, the days come, said the LORD, that I will visit her graven images; and through all her land the wounded unto death shall groan.

Por tanto, he aquí, vienen días —declara el Señor — en que castigaré a sus ídolos, y por toda su tierra gemirán los heridos de muerte.

53 T hough Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify her strength upon high, yet from me shall destroyers come unto her, said the LORD.

Aunque Babilonia ascienda a los cielos, y aunque fortifique en lo alto su baluarte, de mi parte llegarán destructores a ella —declara el Señor.

54 T he sound of a cry comes from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!

¡Clamor de gritos desde Babilonia, y de gran destrucción de la tierra de los caldeos!

55 B ecause the LORD destroys Babylon and takes out of her the many thunders, her waves shall roar; like many waters shall be the sound of their voice:

Porque el Señor destruirá a Babilonia, y hará desaparecer de ella su gran bullicio. Bramarán sus olas como muchas aguas; resonará el estruendo de sus voces.

56 b ecause the destroyer is come against her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, their bow is broken: for the LORD God of recompenses shall surely requite.

Porque viene contra ella, contra Babilonia, el destructor, sus valientes serán apresados, quebrados están sus arcos; porque Dios de retribuciones es el Señor, ciertamente dará la paga.

57 A nd I will make drunk her princes, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men; and they shall sleep an eternal sleep and shall not wake, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of the hosts.

Yo embriagaré a sus príncipes y a sus sabios, a sus gobernantes, a sus magistrados y a sus valientes, y dormirán un sueño eterno y no despertarán —declara el Rey cuyo nombre es el Señor de los ejércitos.

58 T hus hath the LORD of the hosts said; The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly cast down, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and peoples and nations shall labour in vain in the fire to save her, and they shall become weary.

Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos: La ancha muralla de Babilonia será totalmente arrasada, y sus altas puertas quemadas; los pueblos habrán trabajado en vano, y las naciones sólo para el fuego se habrán fatigado.

59 ¶ The word which Jeremiah the prophet sent to Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah into Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And this Seraiah was the chief steward of the bedchambers.

Mensaje que el profeta Jeremías mandó a Seraías, hijo de Nerías, hijo de Maasías, cuando fue con Sedequías, rey de Judá, a Babilonia en el año cuarto de su reinado. (Seraías era jefe de abastecimientos.)

60 S o Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, even all these words that are written against Babylon.

Escribió, pues, Jeremías en un solo rollo toda la calamidad que había de venir sobre Babilonia, es decir, todas estas palabras que han sido escritas acerca de Babilonia.

61 A nd Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When thou comest to Babylon and shalt see and shalt read all these things;

Y Jeremías dijo a Seraías: Tan pronto llegues a Babilonia, lee en voz alta todas estas palabras,

62 t hen thou shalt say, O LORD, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that no one shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever.

y di: “Oh Señor, tú has hablado acerca de este lugar, de destruirlo hasta que no quede morador en ella, ya sea hombre o animal, sino que desolación eterna será.”

63 A nd it shall be, when thou hast made an end of reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of Euphrates;

Y tan pronto termines de leer este rollo, le atarás una piedra y lo arrojarás en medio del Eufrates,

64 a nd thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her: and they shall be overcome. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

y dirás: “Así se hundirá Babilonia y no se levantará más, por la calamidad que traeré sobre ella; extenuados sucumbirán.” Hasta aquí las palabras de Jeremías.
