1 ¶ And Solomon became a relative of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, for he took Pharaoh’s daughter to wife and brought her into the city of David until he had finished building his own house, and the house of the LORD and the wall of Jerusalem round about.

Salomón se emparentó con Faraón, rey de Egipto, pues tomó la hija de Faraón y la trajo a la ciudad de David mientras acababa de edificar su casa, la casa del Señor y la muralla alrededor de Jerusalén.

2 U ntil then the people sacrificed in high places because there was still no house built unto the name of the LORD until those days.

Sólo que el pueblo sacrificaba en los lugares altos, porque en aquellos días aún no se había edificado casa al nombre del Señor. Sabiduría de Salomón

3 A nd Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David, his father; only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.

Salomón amaba al Señor, andando en los estatutos de su padre David, aunque sacrificaba y quemaba incienso en los lugares altos.

4 A nd the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place; a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.

El rey fue a Gabaón a sacrificar allí, porque ese era el lugar alto principal. Salomón ofreció mil holocaustos sobre ese altar.

5 ¶ In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, Ask what you wish that I shall give thee.

Y en Gabaón el Señor se apareció a Salomón de noche en sueños, y Dios le dijo: Pide lo que quieras que yo te dé.

6 A nd Solomon said, Thou hast shown unto thy slave David, my father, great mercy, according to the way he walked before thee in truth and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great mercy that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.

Entonces Salomón dijo: Tú has usado de gran misericordia con tu siervo David mi padre, según él anduvo delante de ti con fidelidad, justicia y rectitud de corazón hacia ti; y has guardado para él esta gran misericordia, en que le has dado un hijo que se siente en su trono, como sucede hoy.

7 A nd now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy slave king instead of David my father; and I am but a tender young man; I do not know how to go out or come in.

Y ahora, Señor Dios mío, has hecho a tu siervo rey en lugar de mi padre David, aunque soy un muchacho y no sé cómo salir ni entrar.

8 A nd thy slave is in the midst of thy people whom thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

Tu siervo está en medio de tu pueblo al cual escogiste, un pueblo inmenso que no se puede numerar ni contar por su multitud.

9 G ive, therefore, thy slave a hearing heart to judge thy people that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this thy so great a people?

Da, pues, a tu siervo un corazón con entendimiento para juzgar a tu pueblo y para discernir entre el bien y el mal. Pues ¿quién será capaz de juzgar a este pueblo tuyo tan grande ?

10 A nd the speech pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this thing.

Y fue del agrado a los ojos del Señor que Salomón pidiera esto.

11 A nd God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing and hast not asked for thyself long life neither hast asked riches for thyself nor hast asked the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself understanding to hear judgment,

Y Dios le dijo: Porque has pedido esto y no has pedido para ti larga vida, ni has pedido para ti riquezas, ni has pedido la vida de tus enemigos, sino que has pedido para ti inteligencia para administrar justicia,

12 b ehold, I have done according to thy words: behold, I have given thee a wise and understanding heart so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

he aquí, he hecho conforme a tus palabras. He aquí, te he dado un corazón sabio y entendido, de modo que no ha habido ninguno como tú antes de ti, ni se levantará ninguno como tú después de ti.

13 A nd I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches and glory so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee in all thy days.

También te he dado lo que no has pedido, tanto riquezas como gloria, de modo que no habrá entre los reyes ninguno como tú en todos tus días.

14 A nd if thou wilt walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments as thy father David walked, then I will lengthen thy days.

Y si andas en mis caminos, guardando mis estatutos y mis mandamientos como tu padre David anduvo, entonces prolongaré tus días.

15 A nd when Solomon awoke, he beheld it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings and made a banquet for all his slaves.

Salomón se despertó y vio que había sido un sueño. Entró en Jerusalén y se puso delante del arca del pacto del Señor; ofreció holocaustos e hizo ofrendas de paz, y también dio un banquete para todos sus siervos.

16 ¶ In that season two women, that were harlots, came unto the king and stood before him.

Por ese tiempo dos mujeres que eran rameras, vinieron al rey y se presentaron delante de él.

17 A nd the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house, and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.

Y una de las mujeres dijo: Oh, mi señor, yo y esta mujer vivimos en la misma casa; y yo di a luz estando con ella en la casa.

18 A nd it came to pass the third day after I was delivered that this woman was delivered also and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, except the two of us in the house.

Y sucedió que al tercer día después de dar yo a luz, esta mujer también dio a luz; estábamos juntas, nadie de fuera estaba con nosotras en la casa, solamente nosotras dos.

19 A nd this woman’s child died in the night because she lay on top of him.

Y el hijo de esta mujer murió durante la noche, porque ella se durmió sobre él.

20 A nd she arose at midnight and took my son from beside me while thy handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom and laid her dead child in my bosom.

Entonces ella se levantó a medianoche, tomó a mi hijo de mi lado mientras tu sierva estaba dormida y lo puso en su regazo, y a su hijo muerto lo puso en mi regazo.

21 A nd when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead; but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I had given birth to.

Cuando me levanté al amanecer para dar el pecho a mi hijo, he aquí que estaba muerto; pero cuando lo observé con cuidado por la mañana, vi que no era mi hijo, el que yo había dado a luz.

22 A nd the other woman said, No, but my son is alive, and thy son is dead. And this one said, No, but thy son is dead, and my son is alive. Thus they spoke before the king.

Entonces la otra mujer dijo: No, pues mi hijo es el que vive y tu hijo es el muerto. Pero la primera mujer dijo: No, tu hijo es el muerto y mi hijo es el que vive. Así hablaban ellas delante del rey.

23 T hen said the king, The one saith, This is my son that is alive, and thy son is dead. And the other saith, No; but thy son is dead, and my son is alive.

Entonces el rey dijo: Esta dice: “Este es mi hijo que está vivo y tu hijo es el muerto”; y la otra dice: “No, porque tu hijo es el muerto y mi hijo es el que vive.”

24 A nd the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.

Y el rey dijo: Traedme una espada. Y trajeron una espada al rey.

25 A nd the king said, Divide the living child in two and give half to the one and half to the other.

Entonces el rey dijo: Partid al niño vivo en dos, y dad la mitad a una y la otra mitad a la otra.

26 T hen the woman, of whom the living child was, spoke unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.

Entonces la mujer de quien era el niño vivo habló al rey, pues estaba profundamente conmovida por su hijo, y dijo: Oh, mi señor, dale a ella el niño vivo, y de ninguna manera lo mates. Pero la otra decía: No será ni mío ni tuyo; partid lo.

27 T hen the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it, for she is its mother.

Entonces el rey respondió y dijo: Dad el niño vivo a la primera mujer, y de ninguna manera lo matéis. Ella es la madre.

28 A nd all Israel heard of that judgment which the king had judged, and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to judge.

Cuando todo Israel oyó del juicio que el rey había pronunciado, temieron al rey, porque vieron que la sabiduría de Dios estaba en él para administrar justicia.
