1 ¶ And Dinah, the daughter of Leah, which she gave birth unto Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.

Y salió Dina, la hija de Lea, a quien ésta había dado a luz a Jacob, a visitar a las hijas de la tierra.

2 A nd when Shechem, the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he took her and lay with her and defiled her.

Y cuando la vio Siquem, hijo de Hamor heveo, príncipe de la tierra, se la llevó y se acostó con ella y la violó.

3 A nd his soul was joined unto Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, and he fell in love with the damsel and spoke unto her heart.

Y él se prendó de Dina, hija de Jacob, y amó a la joven y le habló tiernamente.

4 A nd Shechem spoke unto his father Hamor, saying, Get me this damsel to wife.

Entonces Siquem habló a su padre Hamor, diciendo: Consígueme a esta muchacha por mujer.

5 A nd Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah, his daughter; now his sons were with his cattle in the field, and Jacob remained silent until they were come.

Y Jacob oyó que Siquem había deshonrado a su hija Dina, pero sus hijos estaban con el ganado en el campo, y Jacob guardó silencio hasta que ellos llegaran.

6 ¶ And Hamor, the father of Shechem, went out unto Jacob to speak with him.

Entonces Hamor, padre de Siquem, salió a donde Jacob para hablar con él.

7 A nd the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it; and the men were grieved, and they were very wroth because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter, a thing which ought not to be done.

Y los hijos de Jacob regresaron del campo al oírlo. Y aquellos hombres se entristecieron y se irritaron en gran manera porque Siquem había cometido una infamia en Israel acostándose con la hija de Jacob, pues tal cosa no debe hacerse.

8 A nd Hamor spoke with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem is joined to your daughter; I pray you give her to him as wife.

Pero Hamor habló con ellos, diciendo: El alma de mi hijo Siquem anhela a vuestra hija; os ruego que se la deis por mujer.

9 A nd make ye marriages with us and give your daughters unto us and take our daughters unto you.

Enlazaos con nosotros en matrimonios; dadnos vuestras hijas y tomad las nuestras para vosotros.

10 A nd ye shall dwell with us, and the land shall be before you; dwell and trade ye therein and take you possessions therein.

Así moraréis con nosotros, y la tierra estará a vuestra disposición. Habitad y comerciad y adquirid propiedades en ella.

11 A nd Shechem also said unto her father and unto her brethren, Let me find grace in your eyes, and what ye shall say unto me I will give.

Dijo también Siquem al padre y a los hermanos de ella: Si hallo gracia ante vuestros ojos, os daré lo que me digáis.

12 A sk me for as much dowry and gift as ye desire, and I will give according as ye shall say unto me; but give me the damsel to wife.

Pedidme cuanta dote y presentes queráis y os daré conforme a lo que me digáis, pero dadme a la joven por mujer.

13 A nd the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully and talked because he had defiled Dinah their sister:

Pero los hijos de Jacob respondieron a Siquem y a su padre Hamor, y les hablaron con engaño porque Siquem había deshonrado a su hermana Dina.

14 A nd they said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised, for among us that is a reproach.

Y les dijeron: No podemos hacer tal cosa, dar nuestra hermana a un hombre no circuncidado, pues para nosotros eso es una deshonra.

15 B ut with this condition we will consent unto you: If ye will become as we are that every male of you be circumcised,

Sólo con esta condición os complaceremos: si os hacéis como nosotros, circuncidándose cada uno de vuestros varones;

16 t hen we will give our daughters unto you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.

entonces sí os daremos nuestras hijas, y tomaremos vuestras hijas para nosotros, y moraremos con vosotros y seremos un solo pueblo.

17 B ut if ye will not hearken unto us, to be circumcised, then we will take our daughter, and we will be gone.

Pero si no nos escucháis, y no os circuncidáis, entonces tomaremos a nuestra hija y nos iremos. Venganza de los hijos de Jacob

18 ¶ And their words pleased Hamor and Shechem, Hamor’s son.

Y sus palabras parecieron razonables a Hamor y a Siquem, hijo de Hamor.

19 A nd the young man deferred not to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacob’s daughter and he was the most honourable of all the house of his father.

El joven, pues, no tardó en hacerlo porque estaba enamorado de la hija de Jacob. Y él era el más respetado de toda la casa de su padre.

20 T hen Hamor and Shechem, his son, came unto the gate of their city and communed with the men of their city, saying,

Entonces Hamor y su hijo Siquem vinieron a la puerta de su ciudad, y hablaron a los hombres de la ciudad, diciendo:

21 T hese men are peaceable with us; therefore let them dwell in the land and trade therein; for the land, behold, it is large enough for them; let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters.

Estos hombres están en paz con nosotros; dejadles, pues, morar en la tierra y comerciar en ella, porque ved, la tierra es bastante amplia para ellos. Tomemos para nosotros a sus hijas por mujeres y démosles nuestras hijas.

22 O nly with this condition will these men consent to dwell with us that we may be one people: if every male among us be circumcised as they are circumcised.

Mas sólo con esta condición consentirán ellos en morar con nosotros para que seamos un solo pueblo: que se circuncide todo varón entre nosotros, como ellos están circuncidados.

23 S hall not their livestock and their substance and every beast of theirs be ours? Only let us consent unto them, and they will dwell with us.

¿No serán nuestros su ganado y sus propiedades y todos sus animales? Consintamos sólo en esto, y morarán con nosotros.

24 A nd unto Hamor and unto Shechem, his son, hearkened all that went out of the gate of his city; and every male was circumcised, all that went out of the gate of his city.

Y escucharon a Hamor y a su hijo Siquem todos los que salían por la puerta de la ciudad, y fue circuncidado todo varón: todos los que salían por la puerta de la ciudad.

25 ¶ And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brethren, took each man his sword and came upon the city boldly and slew all the males.

Pero sucedió que al tercer día, cuando estaban con más dolor, dos hijos de Jacob, Simeón y Leví, hermanos de Dina, tomaron cada uno su espada y entraron en la ciudad, que estaba desprevenida, y mataron a todo varón.

26 A nd they slew Hamor and Shechem, his son, with the edge of the sword and took Dinah out of Shechem’s house, and went out.

Y mataron a Hamor y a su hijo Siquem a filo de espada, y tomaron a Dina de la casa de Siquem, y salieron.

27 T he sons of Jacob came upon the slain and spoiled the city because they had defiled their sister.

Después los hijos de Jacob vinieron sobre los muertos y saquearon la ciudad, porque ellos habían deshonrado a su hermana.

28 T hey took their sheep and their oxen and their asses and that which was in the city and that which was in the field

Y se llevaron sus ovejas, sus vacas y sus asnos, y lo que había en la ciudad y lo que había en el campo;

29 a nd all their wealth and all their little ones and their wives they took captive and spoiled even all that was in the house.

y se llevaron cautivos a todos sus pequeños y a sus mujeres, y saquearon todos sus bienes y todo lo que había en las casas.

30 A nd Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me to make me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites; and I being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me and slay me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house.

Entonces Jacob dijo a Simeón y a Leví: Me habéis traído dificultades, haciéndome odioso entre los habitantes del país, entre los cananeos y los ferezeos; y como mis hombres son pocos, ellos se juntarán contra mí y me atacarán, y seré destruido yo y mi casa.

31 A nd they said, Should he deal with our sister as with a harlot?

Pero ellos dijeron: ¿Había de tratar él a nuestra hermana como a una ramera?
