1 ¶ Then came the sons of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month; and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there and was buried there.

Los hijos de Israel, toda la congregación, llegaron al desierto de Zin en el mes primero; y el pueblo se quedó en Cades. Allí murió Miriam y allí la sepultaron.

2 A nd there was no water for the congregation; and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.

Y no había agua para la congregación; y se juntaron contra Moisés y Aarón.

3 A nd the people contended with Moses and spoke, saying, Oh, that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!

El pueblo contendió con Moisés y le habló, diciendo: ¡Ojalá hubiéramos perecido cuando nuestros hermanos murieron delante del Señor!

4 A nd why have ye caused the congregation of the LORD to come into this wilderness that we and our beasts should die here?

¿Por qué, pues, has traído al pueblo del Señor a este desierto, para que nosotros y nuestros animales muramos aquí ?

5 A nd why have ye made us to come up out of Egypt to bring us in unto this evil place? It is not a place to plant seed or of figs or of vines or of pomegranates; there is not even any water to drink.

¿Y por qué nos hiciste subir de Egipto, para traernos a este miserable lugar? No es lugar de sementeras, ni de higueras, ni de viñas, ni de granados, ni aun hay agua para beber.

6 A nd Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the congregation unto the door of the tabernacle of the testimony, and they fell upon their faces; and the glory of the LORD appeared upon them.

Entonces Moisés y Aarón fueron de delante de la asamblea a la puerta de la tienda de reunión, y se postraron sobre sus rostros; y se les apareció la gloria del Señor.

7 A nd the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,

Y habló el Señor a Moisés, diciendo:

8 T ake the rod and gather the congregation together, thou and Aaron, thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes, and it shall give forth its water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock; so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.

Toma la vara y reúne a la congregación, tú y tu hermano Aarón, y hablad a la peña a la vista de ellos, para que la peña dé su agua. Así sacarás para ellos agua de la peña, y beban la congregación y sus animales.

9 T hen Moses took the rod from before the LORD as he commanded him.

Tomó Moisés la vara de la presencia del Señor, tal como El se lo había ordenado;

10 A nd Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?

y Moisés y Aarón reunieron al pueblo ante la peña. Y él les dijo: Oíd, ahora, rebeldes. ¿Sacaremos agua de esta peña para vosotros?

11 T hen Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice; and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

Entonces Moisés levantó su mano y golpeó la peña dos veces con su vara, y brotó agua en abundancia, y bebió el pueblo y sus animales.

12 A nd the LORD spoke unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore, ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

Y el Señor dijo a Moisés y a Aarón: Porque vosotros no me creísteis a fin de tratarme como santo ante los ojos de los hijos de Israel, por tanto no conduciréis a este pueblo a la tierra que les he dado.

13 T hese are the waters of Meribah; over which the sons of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.

Aquellas fueron las aguas de Meriba porque los hijos de Israel contendieron con el Señor, y El manifestó su santidad entre ellos. Edom rehúsa el paso a Israel

14 ¶ And Moses sent ambassadors from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that has befallen us:

Moisés envió mensajeros desde Cades al rey de Edom, diciendo: Así ha dicho tu hermano Israel: “Tú sabes todas las dificultades que nos han sobrevenido;

15 h ow our fathers went down into Egypt, and we were in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians mistreated us and our fathers;

que nuestros padres descendieron a Egipto, y estuvimos por largo tiempo en Egipto, y los egipcios nos maltrataron a nosotros y a nuestros padres.

16 a nd we cried unto the LORD, who heard our voice, and sent an angel and has brought us forth out of Egypt; and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city on the edge of thy border.

“Pero cuando clamamos al Señor, El oyó nuestra voz y envió un ángel y nos sacó de Egipto. Ahora, mira, estamos en Cades, un pueblo de la frontera de tu territorio.

17 L et us pass, I pray thee, through thy country; we will not pass through the fields or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells; we will go by the king’s high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left until we have passed thy borders.

“Permítenos, por favor, pasar por tu tierra. No pasaremos por campo labrado ni por viñedo; ni siquiera beberemos agua de pozo. Iremos por el camino real, sin volver a la derecha ni a la izquierda hasta que crucemos tu territorio.”

18 A nd Edom replied unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me lest I come out against thee with the sword.

Pero, Edom le respondió: Tú no pasarás por mi tierra; para que no salga yo con espada a tu encuentro.

19 A nd the sons of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way; and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it; I will only, without doing anything else, go through on my feet.

Entonces los hijos de Israel le contestaron: Iremos por el camino principal, y si yo y mi ganado bebemos de tu agua, entonces te pagaré su precio. Solamente déjame pasar a pie, nada más.

20 A nd he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with many people and with a strong hand.

Pero él dijo: Tú no pasarás. Y Edom salió a su encuentro con mucha gente y con mano fuerte.

21 T hus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border; and thus Israel turned away from him.

Rehusó, pues, Edom dejar pasar a Israel por su territorio, así que Israel tuvo que desviarse de él. Muerte de Aarón

22 ¶ And the sons of Israel, even the whole congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto Mount Hor.

Partiendo de Cades los hijos de Israel, toda la congregación, llegaron al monte Hor.

23 A nd the LORD spoke unto Moses and Aaron in Mount Hor, on the borders of the land of Edom, saying,

Y habló el Señor a Moisés y a Aarón en el monte Hor, en la frontera de la tierra de Edom, diciendo:

24 A aron shall be gathered unto his peoples; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the sons of Israel because ye were rebels to my word at the water of Meribah.

Aarón será reunido a su pueblo, pues no entrará a la tierra que yo he dado a los hijos de Israel, porque vosotros os rebelasteis contra mi orden en las aguas de Meriba.

25 T ake Aaron and Eleazar, his son, and bring them up unto Mount Hor

Toma a Aarón y a su hijo Eleazar y tráelos al monte Hor;

26 a nd cause Aaron to be stripped of his garments and put them upon Eleazar, his son; for Aaron shall be gathered unto his people and shall die there.

y quita a Aarón sus vestidos y ponlos sobre su hijo Eleazar. Entonces Aarón será reunido a su pueblo, y morirá allí.

27 A nd Moses did as the LORD commanded him; and they went up into Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.

Moisés hizo tal como el Señor le ordenó, y subieron al monte Hor ante los ojos de toda la congregación.

28 A nd Moses caused Aaron to be stripped of his garments and put them upon Eleazar, his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount; and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.

Y después que Moisés le quitó a Aarón sus vestidos y se los puso a su hijo Eleazar, Aarón murió allí sobre la cumbre del monte, y Moisés y Eleazar descendieron del monte.

29 A nd when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the families of Israel.

Cuando toda la congregación vio que Aarón había muerto, toda la casa de Israel lloró a Aarón por treinta días.
