1 ¶ Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father, and the younger men as brethren,

No reprendas con dureza al anciano, sino, más bien, exhórta lo como a padre; a los más jóvenes, como a hermanos,

2 t he elder women as mothers, the younger as sisters, with all purity.

a las ancianas, como a madres; a las más jóvenes, como a hermanas, con toda pureza. Responsabilidades hacia las viudas

3 ¶ Honour widows that are widows indeed.

Honra a las viudas que en verdad son viudas;

4 B ut if any widow has children or grandchildren, let those learn first to govern their house in piety and to recompense their parents, for this is honest and pleasing before God.

pero si alguna viuda tiene hijos o nietos, que aprendan éstos primero a mostrar piedad para con su propia familia y a recompensar a sus padres, porque esto es agradable delante de Dios.

5 N ow she that is a widow indeed and desolate, trusts in God, and is diligent in supplications and prayers night and day,

Pero la que en verdad es viuda y se ha quedado sola, tiene puesta su esperanza en Dios y continúa en súplicas y oraciones noche y día.

6 b ut she that lives in pleasure is dead while she lives.

Mas la que se entrega a los placeres desenfrenados, aun viviendo, está muerta.

7 T herefore command these things, that they may be blameless.

Ordena también estas cosas, para que sean irreprochables.

8 B ut if any provide not for his own and specially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Pero si alguno no provee para los suyos, y especialmente para los de su casa, ha negado la fe y es peor que un incrédulo.

9 L et a widow be placed on the list being not less than sixty years old, having been the wife of one man,

Que la viuda sea puesta en la lista sólo si no es menor de sesenta años, habiendo sido la esposa de un solo marido,

10 h aving a good testimony of good works, if she has brought up well her children, if she has exercised hospitality, if she has washed the feet of the saints, if she has relieved the afflicted, if she has diligently followed every good work.

que tenga testimonio de buenas obras; si ha criado hijos, si ha mostrado hospitalidad a extraños, si ha lavado los pies de los santos, si ha ayudado a los afligidos y si se ha consagrado a toda buena obra.

11 B ut the younger widows refuse, for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they desire to marry,

Pero rehúsa poner en la lista a viudas más jóvenes, porque cuando sienten deseos sensuales, contrarios a Cristo, se quieren casar,

12 h aving condemnation, because they have cast off their first faith.

incurriendo así en condenación, por haber abandonado su promesa anterior.

13 A nd reject also the idle, who have learned to wander about from house to house, and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.

Y además, aprenden a estar ociosas, yendo de casa en casa; y no sólo ociosas, sino también charlatanas y entremetidas, hablando de cosas que no son dignas.

14 I desire therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, govern the house, giving no occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

Por tanto, quiero que las viudas más jóvenes se casen, que tengan hijos, que cuiden su casa y no den al adversario ocasión de reproche.

15 F or some are already turned back after Satan.

Pues algunas ya se han apartado para seguir a Satanás.

16 I f any faithful man or woman has widows, let them maintain them and let not the congregation be charged, that it may relieve those that are widows indeed.

Si alguna creyente tiene viudas en la familia, que las mantenga, y que la iglesia no lleve la carga para que pueda ayudar a las que en verdad son viudas. Otras recomendaciones

17 ¶ Let the elders that govern well be counted worthy of double honour, especially those who labour in the word and doctrine.

Los ancianos que gobiernan bien sean considerados dignos de doble honor, principalmente los que trabajan en la predicación y en la enseñanza.

18 F or the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treads out the grain. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.

Porque la Escritura dice: No pondras bozal al buey cuando trilla, y: El obrero es digno de su salario.

19 A gainst an elder do not receive an accusation, unless there are two or three witnesses.

No admitas acusación contra un anciano, a menos de que haya dos o tres testigos.

20 T hose that persist in sin rebuke before all, that the others may also fear.

A los que continúan en pecado, repréndelos en presencia de todos para que los demás tengan temor de pecar.

21 I charge thee before God and the Lord Jesus Christ and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

Te encargo solemnemente en la presencia de Dios y de Cristo Jesús y de sus ángeles escogidos, que conserves estos principios sin prejuicios, no haciendo nada con espíritu de parcialidad.

22 L ay hands suddenly on no one, neither be partaker of the sins of others; keep thyself pure.

No impongas las manos sobre nadie con ligereza, compartiendo así la responsabilidad por los pecados de otros; guárdate libre de pecado.

23 D rink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.

Ya no bebas agua sola, sino usa un poco de vino por causa de tu estómago y de tus frecuentes enfermedades.

24 S ome men’s sins are manifest beforehand, before they come unto judgment, but to others they follow after.

Los pecados de algunos hombres son ya evidentes, yendo delante de ellos al juicio; mas a otros, sus pecados los siguen.

25 L ikewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand, and those that are otherwise cannot be hid.

De la misma manera, las buenas obras son evidentes, y las que no lo son no se pueden ocultar.
