1 ¶ Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, listening to spirits of error and doctrines of demons;

Pero el Espíritu dice claramente que en los últimos tiempos algunos apostatarán de la fe, prestando atención a espíritus engañadores y a doctrinas de demonios,

2 t hat in hypocrisy shall speak lies; having their conscience seared as with a hot iron;

mediante la hipocresía de mentirosos que tienen cauterizada la conciencia;

3 t hey shall forbid to marry and shall command men to abstain from foods, which God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who are faithful and have known the truth.

prohibiendo casarse y mandando abstenerse de alimentos que Dios ha creado para que con acción de gracias participen de ellos los que creen y que han conocido la verdad.

4 F or everything that God created is good, and nothing is to be refused, if it is received with thanksgiving,

Porque todo lo creado por Dios es bueno y nada se debe rechazar si se recibe con acción de gracias;

5 f or it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

porque es santificado mediante la palabra de Dios y la oración. El buen ministro de Cristo

6 ¶ If thou put these things before the brethren, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, unto which thou hast attained.

Al señalar estas cosas a los hermanos serás un buen ministro de Cristo Jesús, nutrido con las palabras de la fe y de la buena doctrina que has seguido.

7 B ut refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

Pero nada tengas que ver con las fábulas profanas propias de viejas. Más bien disciplínate a ti mismo para la piedad;

8 F or bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.

porque el ejercicio físico aprovecha poco, pero la piedad es provechosa para todo, pues tiene promesa para la vida presente y también para la futura.

9 T he Word is faithful and worthy of acceptation by all.

Palabra fiel es ésta, y digna de ser aceptada por todos.

10 F or this we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

Porque por esto trabajamos y nos esforzamos, porque hemos puesto nuestra esperanza en el Dios vivo, que es el Salvador de todos los hombres, especialmente de los creyentes.

11 C ommand and teach this.

Esto manda y enseña.

12 L et no man despise thy youth, but be thou an example of the faithful in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

No permitas que nadie menosprecie tu juventud; antes, sé ejemplo de los creyentes en palabra, conducta, amor, fe y pureza.

13 U ntil I come, occupy thyself reading, exhorting, teaching.

Entretanto que llego, ocúpate en la lectura de las Escrituras, la exhortación y la enseñanza.

14 N eglect not the gift that is in thee, which is given unto thee to prophesy, through the laying on of the hands of the elders.

No descuides el don espiritual que está en ti, que te fue conferido por medio de la profecía con la imposición de manos del presbiterio.

15 O ccupy thyself in these things with care, for in this is everything, that thy profiting may be manifest unto all.

Reflexiona sobre estas cosas; dedícate a ellas, para que tu aprovechamiento sea evidente a todos.

16 T ake heed unto thyself and unto the doctrine; be diligent in this, for in doing so thou shalt both save thyself and those that hear thee.

Ten cuidado de ti mismo y de la enseñanza; persevera en estas cosas, porque haciéndolo asegurarás la salvación tanto para ti mismo como para los que te escuchan.
