1 ¶ Now these are the rights which thou shalt set before them.

Estas son las ordenanzas que pondrás delante de ellos.

2 I f thou should buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve six years; and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing.

Si compras un siervo hebreo, te servirá seis años, pero al séptimo saldrá libre sin pagar nada.

3 I f he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself; if he was married, then his wife shall go out with him.

Si entró solo, saldrá solo; si tenía mujer, entonces su mujer saldrá con él.

4 I f his master has given him a wife, and she has born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master’s, and he shall go out by himself.

Si su amo le da mujer, y ella le da a luz hijos o hijas, la mujer y sus hijos serán de su amo, y él saldrá solo.

5 A nd if the slave shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free.

Pero si el siervo insiste, diciendo: “Amo a mi señor, a mi mujer y a mis hijos; no saldré libre”,

6 T hen his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him forever.

entonces su amo lo traerá a Dios, y lo traerá a la puerta o al quicial. Y su amo le horadará la oreja con una lezna, y él le servirá para siempre.

7 A nd if a man should sell his daughter to be a maidslave, she shall not go out as the menslaves do.

Y si alguno vende a su hija por sierva, ella no saldrá libre como salen los siervos.

8 I f she pleases not her master, who therefore took her not unto himself to wife, then it is permitted that she be ransomed; and he may not sell her unto a strange nation when he rejects her.

Si ella no agrada a su amo que la había destinado para sí, permitirá que sea redimida. Pero no podrá venderla a un pueblo extranjero, por haberla tratado con engaño.

9 A nd if he has betrothed her unto his son, he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters.

Y si la destina para su hijo, la tratará conforme a la costumbre de las hijas.

10 I f he takes another wife, her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, he shall not diminish.

Si toma para sí otra mujer, no disminuirá a la primera su alimento, ni su ropa, ni sus derechos conyugales.

11 A nd if he does not do these three things unto her, then shall she go out free without money.

Y si no hace por ella estas tres cosas, entonces ella saldrá libre sin pagar dinero. Leyes sobre el homicidio y la violencia

12 ¶ He that smites a man so that he dies shall be surely put to death.

El que hiera de muerte a otro, ciertamente morirá.

13 A nd if a man did not lie in wait but God delivered him into his hand, then I will appoint thee a place where he shall flee.

Pero si no estaba al acecho, sino que Dios permitió que cayera en sus manos, entonces yo te señalaré un lugar donde pueda refugiarse.

14 B ut if a man comes presumptuously upon his neighbour to slay him with prudence, thou shalt take him from my altar that he may die.

Sin embargo, si alguno se ensoberbece contra su prójimo para matarlo con alevosía, lo tomarás aun de mi altar para que muera.

15 A nd he that smites his father or his mother shall be surely put to death.

El que hiera a su padre o a su madre, ciertamente morirá.

16 L ikewise he that steals a man and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.

El que secuestre a una persona, ya sea que la venda o sea hallada en su poder, ciertamente morirá.

17 I n the same manner he that curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.

El que maldiga a su padre o a su madre, ciertamente morirá.

18 A nd if men strive together and one smites another with a stone or with his fist and he dies not, but keeps his bed,

Si dos hombres riñen y uno hiere al otro con una piedra o con el puño, y no muere, pero guarda cama,

19 i f he rises again and walks abroad upon his staff, then shall he that smote him be absolved, only he shall pay for the loss of his time and shall cause him to be thoroughly healed.

y se levanta y anda afuera con su bastón, el que lo hirió será absuelto; sólo pagará por su tiempo perdido, y lo cuidará hasta que esté completamente curado.

20 A nd if a man smites his slave or his maid with a rod and he dies under his hand, he shall be surely punished.

Si alguno hiere a su siervo o a su sierva con una vara, y muere bajo su mano, será castigado.

21 N otwithstanding, if he continues a day or two, he shall not be punished, for he is his money.

Sin embargo, si sobrevive uno o dos días, no se tomará venganza, porque es propiedad suya.

22 ¶ If men strive and hurt a woman with child so that she aborts but without death, he shall be surely punished according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him, and he shall pay by the judges.

Y si algunos hombres luchan entre sí y golpean a una mujer encinta, y ella aborta, sin haber otro daño, ciertamente el culpable será multado según lo que el esposo de la mujer demande de él; y pagará según lo que los jueces decidan.

23 A nd if there is death, then thou shalt pay life for life,

Pero si hubiera algún otro daño, entonces pondrás como castigo, vida por vida,

24 e ye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

ojo por ojo, diente por diente, mano por mano, pie por pie,

25 b urning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

26 A nd if someone smites the eye of their slave or the eye of their maid that it perishes, he shall let them go free for their eye’s sake.

Si alguno hiere el ojo de su siervo o de su sierva y se lo inutiliza, lo dejará ir libre a causa del ojo.

27 A nd if he smites out his manslave’s tooth or his maidslave’s tooth, he shall let them go free for their tooth’s sake.

Y si hace saltar un diente a su siervo o a su sierva, lo dejará ir libre a causa del diente.

28 I f an ox gores a man or a woman that they die, then the ox shall surely be stoned, and his flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be absolved.

Y si un buey acornea a un hombre o a una mujer, y le causa la muerte, ciertamente el buey será apedreado y su carne no se comerá; pero el dueño del buey no será castigado.

29 B ut if the ox were wont to push with his horn in time past and it has been testified to his owner, and he has not kept him in, but that he has killed a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and his owner also shall be put to death.

Sin embargo, si el buey tenía desde antes el hábito de acornear, y su dueño había sido advertido, pero no lo había encerrado, y mata a un hombre o a una mujer, el buey será apedreado, y su dueño también morirá.

30 I f there is laid on him a sum of money, then he shall give for the ransom of his life whatever is laid upon him.

Si se le impone precio de rescate, entonces dará por la redención de su vida lo que se demande de él.

31 W hether it has gored a son or has gored a daughter, according to this judgment shall it be done unto him.

Si acornea a un hijo o a una hija, será enjuiciado según la misma ley.

32 I f the ox shall gore a manslave or a maidslave, he shall give unto their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.

Si el buey acornea a un siervo o a una sierva, el dueño dará a su amo treinta siclos de plata, y el buey será apedreado.

33 A nd if someone shall open a pit or if someone shall dig a pit and not cover it and an ox or an ass falls in it,

Si alguno destapa un pozo, o cava un pozo y no lo cubre, y cae en él un buey o un asno,

34 t he owner of the pit shall make it good and give money unto their owner, and the dead beast shall be his.

el dueño del pozo hará restitución; dará dinero a su dueño, y el animal muerto será suyo.

35 A nd if one man’s ox hurts another’s that he dies; then they shall sell the live ox and divide the money of it, and the dead ox they shall also divide.

Y si el buey de alguno hiere al buey de otro y le causa la muerte, entonces venderán el buey vivo y se dividirán el dinero, y se dividirán también el buey muerto.

36 O r if it is known that the ox used to push in time past and his owner has not kept him in, he shall surely pay ox for ox, and the dead shall be his own.

Pero si sabía que el buey tenía desde antes el hábito de acornear y su dueño no lo había encerrado, ciertamente pagará buey por buey, y el buey muerto será suyo.
