1 ¶ In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by the hand of Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying,

El año segundo del rey Darío, en el mes sexto, el día primero del mes, vino la palabra del Señor por medio del profeta Hageo a Zorobabel, hijo de Salatiel, gobernador de Judá, y al sumo sacerdote Josué, hijo de Josadac, diciendo:

2 T hus speaketh the LORD of the hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not yet come, the time to build the house of the LORD.

Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos: “Este pueblo dice: ‘No ha llegado el tiempo, el tiempo de que la casa del Señor sea reedificada.’”

3 T hen came the word of the LORD by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying,

Entonces vino la palabra del Señor por medio del profeta Hageo, diciendo:

4 D o you have time, all of you, to dwell in your panelled houses, and this house is deserted?

¿Es acaso tiempo para que vosotros habitéis en vuestras casas artesonadas mientras esta casa está desolada ?

5 N ow therefore thus hath the LORD of the hosts said; Consider your ways.

Ahora pues, así dice el Señor de los ejércitos: Considerad bien vuestros caminos.

6 Y e have sown much and bring in little; ye eat, but ye are not filled; ye drink, but ye are not satisfied; ye clothe yourselves, but you are not warm; and he that is a hireling receives his wages in a bag with holes.

Sembráis mucho, pero recogéis poco; coméis, pero no hay suficiente para que os saciéis; bebéis, pero no hay suficiente para que os embriaguéis; os vestís, pero nadie se calienta; y el que recibe salario, recibe salario en bolsa rota.

7 T hus hath the LORD of the hosts said, Consider your ways.

Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos: Considerad bien vuestros caminos.

8 G o up to the mountain and bring wood and build the house; and I will place my will in her, and I will be glorified, said the LORD.

Subid al monte, traed madera y reedificad el templo, para que me agrade de él y yo sea glorificado —dice el Señor.

9 Y e look for much and find little; and when ye lock it up at home, I shall blow upon it. Why? said the LORD of the hosts. Because my house is deserted, and ye run each one of you unto his own house.

Esperáis mucho, pero he aquí, hay poco; y lo que traéis a casa, yo lo aviento. ¿Por qué? —declara el Señor de los ejércitos—. Por causa de mi casa que está desolada, mientras cada uno de vosotros corre a su casa.

10 T herefore the rain of the heavens over you is held back, and the earth has held back her fruits.

Por tanto, por causa vuestra, los cielos han retenido su rocío y la tierra ha retenido su fruto.

11 A nd I called for a drought upon this land and upon the mountains and upon the wheat and upon the wine and upon the oil and upon that which the earth brings forth and upon the men, and upon the beasts and upon every labour of hands.

Y llamé a la sequía sobre la tierra, sobre los montes, sobre el trigo, sobre el mosto, sobre el aceite, sobre lo que produce la tierra, sobre los hombres, sobre el ganado y sobre todo el trabajo de vuestras manos.

12 ¶ Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, heard the voice of the LORD their God and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people feared before the LORD.

Y Zorobabel, hijo de Salatiel, el sumo sacerdote Josué, hijo de Josadac, y todo el remanente del pueblo, obedecieron la voz del Señor su Dios y las palabras del profeta Hageo, como el Señor su Dios le había mandado. Y temió el pueblo delante del Señor.

13 T hen spoke Haggai the ambassador of the LORD in the embassy of the LORD unto the people, saying, I am with you, said the LORD.

Entonces Hageo, mensajero del Señor, por mandato del Señor, habló al pueblo, diciendo: Yo estoy con vosotros —declara el Señor.

14 A nd the LORD woke up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked in the house of the LORD of the hosts, their God,

Y despertó el Señor el espíritu de Zorobabel, hijo de Salatiel, gobernador de Judá, y el espíritu del sumo sacerdote Josué, hijo de Josadac, y el espíritu de todo el remanente del pueblo. Y vinieron y comenzaron la obra en la casa del Señor de los ejércitos, su Dios,

15 i n the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.

el día veinticuatro del mes sexto, en el año segundo del rey Darío.
