1 ¶ Now it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus (this is Ahasuerus who reigned from India even unto Ethiopia over one hundred and twenty-seven provinces)

Aconteció en los días de Asuero, el rey Asuero que reinó desde la India hasta Etiopía sobre ciento veintisiete provincias,

2 T hat in those days, when the king Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom, which was in Shushan, the palace,

que en aquellos días, estando el rey Asuero reinando desde su trono real, en la fortaleza de Susa,

3 I n the third year of his reign, he made a banquet unto all his princes and his slaves, having before him the power of Persia and Media, the governors and princes of the provinces, ‘

en el año tercero de su reinado, ofreció un banquete para todos sus príncipes y servidores, estando en su presencia los oficiales del ejército de Persia y Media, los nobles y los príncipes de sus provincias.

4 t o show them the riches of the glory of his kingdom and the honour of beauty of his greatness for many days, even one hundred and eighty days.

Y él les mostró las riquezas de la gloria de su reino y el magnífico esplendor de su majestad durante muchos días, ciento ochenta días.

5 A nd when these days were expired, the king made a banquet unto all the people that were present in Shushan the palace, both unto great and small, for seven days, in the court of the garden of the king’s palace.

Cuando se cumplieron estos días, el rey ofreció un banquete de siete días para todo el pueblo que se encontraba en la fortaleza de Susa, desde el mayor hasta el menor, en el atrio del jardín del palacio del rey.

6 T here were white, green, and blue hangings, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rings and pillars of marble; the beds were of gold and silver, upon a pavement of porphyre and of marble and of alabaster and of blue.

Había colgaduras de lino blanco y violeta, sostenidas por cordones de lino fino y púrpura en anillos de plata y columnas de mármol, y lechos de oro y plata sobre un pavimento mosaico de pórfido, de mármol, de alabastro y de piedras preciosas.

7 A nd they gave them drink in vessels of gold (the vessels being diverse one from another) and royal wine in abundance, according to the power of the king.

Las bebidas se servían en vasijas de oro de diferentes formas, y el vino real abundaba conforme a la liberalidad del rey.

8 A nd the drink was according to this law: let no one constrain themselves; for so the king had appointed to all the officers of his house that they should do according to the will of each one.

Y se bebía conforme a la ley, no había obligación, porque el rey así había dado órdenes a todos los oficiales de su casa para que hicieran conforme a los deseos de cada persona.

9 L ikewise Vashti, the queen, made a banquet for the women in the royal house of King Ahasuerus.

La reina Vasti también hizo un banquete para las mujeres en el palacio que pertenecía al rey Asuero. La reina Vasti repudiada

10 ¶ On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven eunuchs that served in the presence of Ahasuerus, the king,

Al séptimo día, cuando el corazón del rey estaba alegre por el vino, él ordenó a Mehumán, a Bizta, a Harbona, a Bigta, a Abagta, a Zetar y a Carcas, los siete eunucos que servían en la presencia del rey Asuero,

11 t o bring Vashti, the queen, before the king with the crown of the kingdom, to show the people and the princes her beauty, for she was fair to behold.

que trajeran a la reina Vasti a la presencia del rey con su corona real, para mostrar al pueblo y a los príncipes su belleza, porque era muy hermosa.

12 B ut Queen Vashti refused to come at the king’s word by his eunuchs; therefore, the king was very wroth, and his anger burned in him.

Pero la reina Vasti rehusó venir al mandato del rey transmitido por los eunucos. Entonces el rey se enojó mucho y se encendió su furor en él.

13 T hen the king asked the wise men, who knew the times, (for so was the king’s manner toward all that knew about the law and rights,

Y el rey dijo a los sabios que conocían los tiempos (pues era costumbre del rey consultar así a todos los que conocían la ley y el derecho,

14 a nd the next to him was Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, seven princes of Persia and Media, who saw the king’s face, and who sat first in the kingdom;)

y estaban junto a él Carsena, Setar, Admata, Tarsis, Meres, Marsena y Memucán, los siete príncipes de Persia y Media que tenían entrada a la presencia del rey y que ocupaban los primeros puestos en el reino ):

15 W hat shall we do unto Queen Vashti according to law because she has not performed the decree of King Ahasuerus by the eunuchs?

Conforme a la ley, ¿qué se debe hacer con la reina Vasti, por no haber obedecido el mandato del rey Asuero transmitido por los eunucos?

16 A nd Memucan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti, the queen, has not only committed iniquity against the king, but also against all the princes and against all the people that are in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus.

Y en presencia del rey y de los príncipes, Memucán dijo: La reina Vasti no sólo ha ofendido al rey sino también a todos los príncipes y a todos los pueblos que están en todas las provincias del rey Asuero.

17 F or this deed of the queen shall be known abroad unto all the women so that they shall despise their husbands, saying, King Ahasuerus commanded Vashti, the queen, to be brought in before him, but she did not come.

Porque la conducta de la reina llegará a conocerse por todas las mujeres y hará que ellas miren con desdén a sus maridos, y digan: “El rey Asuero ordenó que la reina Vasti fuera llevada a su presencia, pero ella no fue.”

18 A nd now the princesses of Persia and Media who have heard of the deed of the queen shall say this unto all the king’s princes, and there shall be much contempt and wrath.

Y desde hoy las señoras de Persia y Media que han oído de la conducta de la reina hablarán de la misma manera a todos los príncipes del rey, y habrá mucho desdén y enojo.

19 I f it pleases the king, let there go forth a royal commandment from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it not be altered, That Vashti come no more before King Ahasuerus, and let the king give her royal estate unto another that is better than she.

Si le place al rey, proclame él un decreto real y que se escriba en las leyes de Persia y Media para que no sea revocado, que Vasti no entre más a la presencia del rey Asuero, y que el rey dé su título de reina a otra que sea más digna que ella.

20 A nd this sentence which the king shall make shall be heard throughout all his empire, although it is great, and all the wives shall give their husbands honour, from the greatest to the least.

Y cuando el decreto que haga el rey sea oído por todo su reino, inmenso como es, entonces todas las mujeres darán honra a sus maridos, desde el mayor hasta el menor.

21 A nd this word pleased the king and the princes, and the king did according to the word of Memucan;

Esta palabra pareció bien al rey y a los príncipes, y el rey hizo conforme a lo dicho por Memucán.

22 f or he sent letters into all the king’s provinces, into every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language, saying, That every man should bear rule in his own house and that it should be published according to the language of every people.

Y envió cartas a todas las provincias del rey, a cada provincia conforme a su escritura y a cada pueblo conforme a su lengua, para que todo hombre fuera señor en su casa y que en ella se hablara la lengua de su pueblo.
