1 ¶ When the LORD thy God has cut off the Gentiles whose land the LORD thy God gives thee, and thou hast inherited them and dost dwell in their cities and in their houses,

Cuando el Señor tu Dios destruya las naciones cuya tierra el Señor tu Dios te da, y las desalojes, y habites en sus ciudades y en sus casas,

2 t hou shalt separate three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the LORD thy God gives thee to inherit.

te reservarás tres ciudades en medio de tu tierra que el Señor tu Dios te da en posesión.

3 T hou shalt prepare thee a way and divide the borders of thy land, which the LORD thy God gives thee to inherit, into three parts, so that every manslayer may flee there.

Prepararás los caminos, y dividirás en tres partes el territorio de tu tierra que el Señor tu Dios te dé en posesión, para que huya allí todo homicida.

4 A nd this is the case of the manslayer who is to flee there, that he may live: whoever kills his neighbour by mistake, whom he hated not in time past;

Y este será el caso del homicida que huya allí y viva: cuando mate a su amigo sin querer, sin haberlo odiado anteriormente

5 a nd he who went into the woods with his neighbour to cut firewood and his hand fetched a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree and the head slipped from the handle and lighted upon his neighbour so that he died, he shall flee unto one of those cities and live,

(como cuando un hombre va al bosque con su amigo para cortar leña, y su mano blande el hacha para cortar el árbol, y el hierro salta del mango y golpea a su amigo, y éste muere), él puede huir a una de estas ciudades y vivir;

6 l est the avenger of the blood pursue the manslayer, while his heart is hot and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him, whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.

no sea que el vengador de la sangre en el furor de su ira persiga al homicida, y lo alcance porque el camino es largo, y le quite la vida aunque él no merecía la muerte, porque no lo había odiado anteriormente.

7 T herefore, I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thee.

Por tanto, te mando, diciendo: Reservarás para ti tres ciudades.

8 A nd if the LORD thy God enlarges thy borders, as he has sworn unto thy fathers, and gives thee all the land which he was to give unto thy fathers,

Y si el Señor tu Dios ensancha tu territorio, como ha jurado a tus padres, y te da toda la tierra que ha prometido dar a tus padres

9 w hen thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day: to love the LORD thy God, and to walk all the days in his ways, then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, besides these three,

(si guardas cuidadosamente todos estos mandamientos que te mando hoy, de amar al Señor tu Dios y de andar siempre en sus caminos), entonces te añadirás tres ciudades más, además de estas tres.

10 t hat innocent blood not be shed in thy land, which the LORD thy God gives thee for an inheritance, and the blood shall not be upon thee.

Para que no se derrame sangre inocente en medio de tu tierra que el Señor tu Dios te da por heredad, y no seas culpable de derramar sangre.

11 B ut when any man hates his neighbour and lies in wait for him and rises up against him and smites him mortally that he dies and flees into one of these cities,

Pero si hay un hombre que odia a su prójimo, y acechándolo, se levanta contra él, lo hiere, y éste muere, y después él huye a una de estas ciudades,

12 t hen the elders of his city shall send and take him from there and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, and he shall die.

entonces los ancianos de su ciudad enviarán a sacarlo de allí, y lo entregarán en mano del vengador de la sangre para que muera.

13 T hine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel that it may go well with thee.

No tendrás piedad de él; mas limpiarás de Israel la sangre del inocente, para que te vaya bien. Ley de límites y de testigos

14 ¶ Thou shalt not reduce thy neighbour’s border, which those of old time have marked in thine inheritance, which thou shalt possess in the land that the LORD thy God gives thee to inherit.

No moverás los linderos de tu prójimo, fijados por los antepasados, en la herencia que recibirás en la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te da en posesión.

15 O ne witness shall not be valid against a man for any iniquity or for any sin, in any sin which he should commit. At the mouth of two witnesses or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

No se levantará un solo testigo contra un hombre por cualquier iniquidad o por cualquier pecado que haya cometido; el caso será confirmado por el testimonio de dos o tres testigos.

16 W hen a false witness rises up against any man to testify rebellion against him,

Si un testigo falso se levanta contra un hombre para acusarle de transgresión,

17 t hen both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges, who shall be in those days;

los dos litigantes se presentarán delante del Señor, delante de los sacerdotes y de los jueces que haya en esos días.

18 a nd the judges shall make diligent inquisition; and, behold, if the witness is a false witness and has testified falsely against his brother,

Y los jueces investigarán minuciosamente; y si el testigo es un testigo falso y ha acusado a su hermano falsamente,

19 t hen shall ye do unto him as he had thought to have done unto his brother; so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.

entonces le haréis a él lo que él intentaba hacer a su hermano. Así quitarás el mal de en medio de ti.

20 A nd those who remain shall hear and fear and shall never again commit any such evil among you.

Los demás oirán y temerán, y nunca más volverán a hacer una maldad semejante en medio de ti.

21 A nd thine eye shall not pity, but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

Y no tendrás piedad: vida por vida, ojo por ojo, diente por diente, mano por mano, pie por pie.
