1 ¶ Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had abode two days in Ziklag;

Sucedió que después de la muerte de Saúl, habiendo regresado David de la derrota de los amalecitas, David permaneció dos días en Siclag.

2 i t came to pass on the third day that, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his clothes rent and earth upon his head, and so it was when he came to David, that he fell to the earth and did obeisance.

Y al tercer día, he aquí, un hombre llegó del campamento de Saúl con sus ropas rasgadas y polvo sobre su cabeza, y al llegar ante David, cayó en tierra y se postró.

3 A nd David said unto him, Where dost thou come from? And he said unto him, I am escaped out of the camp of Israel.

Y David le dijo: ¿De dónde vienes? Y él le respondió: Me he escapado del campamento de Israel.

4 A nd David said unto him, How went the matter? I pray thee, tell me. And he answered, The people fled from the battle, and many of the people fell and are dead, and Saul and Jonathan, his son, are dead also.

David le preguntó: ¿Qué aconteció ? Te ruego que me lo digas. Y él respondió: El pueblo ha huido de la batalla, y también muchos del pueblo han caído y han muerto; también Saúl y su hijo Jonatán han muerto.

5 A nd David said unto the young man that told him, How dost thou know that Saul and Jonathan, his son, are dead?

Dijo David al joven que se lo había contado: ¿Cómo sabes que Saúl y su hijo Jonatán han muerto?

6 A nd the young man that told him said, As I happened by chance upon Mount Gilboa, behold, Saul leaned upon his spear, and the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him.

El joven que se lo había contado, dijo: Yo estaba por casualidad en el monte Gilboa, y he aquí, Saúl estaba apoyado sobre su lanza. Y he aquí que los carros y los jinetes lo perseguían de cerca.

7 A nd when he looked behind him, he saw me and called unto me. And I answered, Here am I.

Al mirar él hacia atrás, me vio y me llamó. Y dije: “Heme aquí.”

8 A nd he said unto me, Who art thou? And I answered him, I am an Amalekite.

Y él me dijo: “¿Quién eres?” Y le respondí: “Soy amalecita.”

9 H e said unto me again, Stand, I pray thee, upon me and slay me, for anguish is come upon me, and all my soul is yet in me.

Entonces él me dijo: “Te ruego que te pongas junto a mí y me mates, pues la agonía se ha apoderado de mí, porque todavía estoy con vida.”

10 S o I stood upon him and slew him because I was sure that he could not live after he was fallen, and I took the crown that was upon his head and the bracelet that was on his arm and have brought them here unto my lord.

Me puse, pues, junto a él y lo maté, porque yo sabía que él no podía vivir después de haber caído. Tomé la corona que estaba en su cabeza y la pulsera que estaba en su brazo, y los he traído aquí a mi señor.

11 ¶ Then David took hold on his clothes and rent them and likewise all the men that were with him.

Entonces David agarró sus ropas y las rasgó, y así hicieron también todos los hombres que estaban con él.

12 A nd they mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul and for Jonathan his son and for the people of the LORD, and for the house of Israel because they had fallen by the sword.

Y se lamentaron y lloraron y ayunaron hasta el atardecer por Saúl y por su hijo Jonatán, por el pueblo del Señor y por la casa de Israel, porque habían caído a espada.

13 A nd David said unto the young man that told him, From where art thou? And he answered, I am the son of a stranger, an Amalekite.

Dijo David al joven que se lo había contado: ¿De dónde eres? Y él respondió: Soy hijo de un extranjero, un amalecita.

14 A nd David said unto him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thine hand to destroy the LORD’s anointed?

Y David le dijo: ¿Cómo es que no tuviste temor de extender tu mano para destruir al ungido del Señor ?

15 T hen David called one of the young men and said, Go near and fall upon him. And he smote him that he died.

Llamando David a uno de los jóvenes, le dijo: Ve, mátalo. Y él lo hirió, y murió.

16 A nd David said unto him, Thy blood be upon thy head, for thy mouth has testified against thee, saying, I have slain the LORD’s anointed.

Y David le dijo: Tu sangre sea sobre tu cabeza, porque tu boca ha testificado contra ti, al decir: “Yo he matado al ungido del Señor.” Elegía de David por Saúl y Jonatán

17 ¶ And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son.

David entonó esta elegía por Saúl y por su hijo Jonatán,

18 ( He also bade them teach the sons of Judah the use of the bow. Behold, it is written in the book of righteousness.)

y ordenó que enseñaran a los hijos de Judá el cántico del arco; he aquí, está escrito en el libro de Jaser.

19 T he glory of Israel is slain upon thy high places! How are the mighty fallen!

Tu hermosura, oh Israel, ha perecido sobre tus montes. ¡Cómo han caído los valientes!

20 T ell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Askelon lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.

No lo anunciéis en Gat, no lo proclaméis en las calles de Ascalón; para que no se regocijen las hijas de los filisteos, para que no se alegren las hijas de los incircuncisos.

21 Y e mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew, neither let there be rain, upon you nor fields of offerings, for there the shield of the mighty is vilely cast away, the shield of Saul, as though he had not been anointed with oil.

Oh montes de Gilboa, no haya sobre vosotros rocío ni lluvia, ni campos de ofrendas; porque allí fue deshonrado el escudo de los valientes, el escudo de Saúl, no ungido con aceite.

22 W ithout the blood of the slain, without the fat of the mighty, the bow of Jonathan never turned back, and the sword of Saul never returned empty.

De la sangre de los muertos, de la grosura de los poderosos, el arco de Jonatán no volvía atrás, y la espada de Saúl no volvía vacía.

23 S aul and Jonathan were loved and desired in their lives, and in their death they were not divided; they were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions.

Saúl y Jonatán, amados y amables en su vida, y en su muerte no fueron separados; más ligeros eran que águilas, más fuertes que leones.

24 Y e daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, who clothed you in scarlet, with other delights, who put ornaments of gold upon your apparel.

Hijas de Israel, llorad por Saúl, que os vestía lujosamente de escarlata, que ponía adornos de oro en vuestros vestidos.

25 H ow are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle! O Jonathan, thou wast slain in thine high places.

¡Cómo han caído los valientes en medio de la batalla! Jonatán, muerto en tus alturas.

26 I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan; very pleasant hast thou been unto me; thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.

Estoy afligido por ti, Jonatán, hermano mío; tú me has sido muy estimado. Tu amor fue para mí más maravilloso que el amor de las mujeres.

27 H ow are the valiant fallen, and the weapons of war perished!

¡Cómo han caído los valientes, y perecido las armas de guerra!
