1 ¶ Furthermore, Elihu answered and said,

Entonces prosiguió Eliú, y dijo:

2 H ear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.

Oíd, sabios, mis palabras, y vosotros los que sabéis, prestadme atención.

3 F or the ear tries words, as the mouth tastes food.

Porque el oído distingue las palabras, como el paladar prueba la comida.

4 L et us choose our judgment; let us know among ourselves what is good.

Escojamos para nosotros lo que es justo; conozcamos entre nosotros lo que es bueno.

5 F or Job has said, I am righteous; and God has taken away my right.

Porque Job ha dicho: “Yo soy justo, pero Dios me ha quitado mi derecho.

6 I n my judgment he was a liar, my arrow wound is grievous without my having committed a transgression.

“¿He de mentir respecto a mi derecho ? Mi herida es incurable, sin haber yo cometido transgresión.”

7 W hat man is like Job, who drinks up the scorn like water?

¿Qué hombre es como Job, que bebe el escarnio como agua,

8 W ho goes in company with the workers of iniquity, and walks with wicked men.

que va en compañía de los que hacen iniquidad, y anda con hombres perversos ?

9 F or he said, It shall profit a man nothing that he should conform his will with God.

Porque ha dicho: “Nada gana el hombre cuando se complace en Dios.”

10 ¶ Therefore, hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

Por tanto, escuchadme, hombres de entendimiento. Lejos esté de Dios la iniquidad, y del Todopoderoso la maldad.

11 F or he shall pay man according to his work and cause every man to find according to his ways.

Porque El paga al hombre conforme a su trabajo, y retribuye a cada cual conforme a su conducta.

12 Y ea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.

Ciertamente, Dios no obrará perversamente, y el Todopoderoso no pervertirá el juicio.

13 W ho visited the earth for him? And who set the whole world in order?

¿Quién le dio autoridad sobre la tierra ? ¿Y quién ha puesto a su cargo el mundo entero ?

14 I f he were to set his heart upon man and gather unto himself his spirit and his breath,

Si El determinara hacerlo así, si hiciera volver a sí mismo su espíritu y su aliento,

15 a ll flesh would perish together, and man would turn again unto dust.

toda carne a una perecería, y el hombre volvería al polvo.

16 ¶ If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.

Pero si tienes inteligencia, oye esto, escucha la voz de mis palabras.

17 S hall even he that hates judgment govern? And wilt thou condemn the Mighty One that is righteous?

¿Gobernará el que aborrece la justicia ? ¿Y condenarás al Justo poderoso,

18 I s it fit to say to the king, Thou art of Belial and to the princes, Ye are ungodly?

que dice a un rey: “Indigno”, a los nobles: “Perversos”;

19 H ow much less to him who is not a respecter of the persons of princes, nor respects the rich more than the poor; for they all are the work of his hands.

que no hace acepción de príncipes, ni considera al rico sobre el pobre, ya que todos son obra de sus manos ?

20 I n a moment they shall die, and the peoples shall be troubled at midnight and shall pass away; and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.

En un momento mueren, y a medianoche se estremecen los pueblos y pasan, y los poderosos son quitados sin esfuerzo.

21 F or his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he sees all his steps.

Porque sus ojos observan los caminos del hombre, y El ve todos sus pasos.

22 T here is no darkness nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

No hay tinieblas ni densa oscuridad donde puedan esconderse los que hacen iniquidad.

23 F or he will not lay upon man more than that which is just; that he should enter into judgment with God.

Porque El no necesita considerar más al hombre, para que vaya ante Dios en juicio.

24 H e shall break in pieces mighty men without number and set others in their stead.

El quebranta a los poderosos sin indagar, y pone a otros en su lugar.

25 T herefore, he shall cause their works to be notorious, when he shall overturn them in the night, so that they are destroyed.

Pues El conoce sus obras, de noche los derriba y son aplastados.

26 H e shall strike them as wicked men in the open sight of others

Como a malvados los azota en un lugar público,

27 b ecause thus they turned back from him and would not consider any of his ways

porque se apartaron de seguirle, y no consideraron ninguno de sus caminos,

28 s o that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he hears the cry of the afflicted.

haciendo que el clamor del pobre llegara a El, y que oyera el clamor de los afligidos.

29 W hen he gives rest, who then can make trouble? If he hides his face, who then can behold him? This applies to a nation and the same to a man,

Cuando está quieto, ¿quién puede condenar le ?; y cuando esconde su rostro, ¿quién puede contemplarle?; esto es, tanto nación como hombre,

30 t hat the hypocrite not reign, lest the people be ensnared.

para que no gobiernen hombres impíos, ni sean lazos para el pueblo.

31 ¶ For it is of God to say, I have forgiven, I will no longer destroy.

Porque ¿ha dicho alguno a Dios: “He sufrido castigo, ya no ofenderé más;

32 T each me that which I do not see; if I have done iniquity, I will do it no more.

enséñame lo que no veo; si he obrado mal, no lo volveré a hacer ?”

33 W ill he, perchance finish his work by thee; whether thou refuse or whether thou choose, or by me? Speak what thou knowest.

¿Ha de retribuir El según tus condiciones, porque tú has rehusado? Porque tú tienes que escoger y no yo, por tanto, declara lo que sabes.

34 T he men of understanding will say as I say, and the wise man will hearken unto me.

Los hombres entendidos me dirán, y también el sabio que me oiga:

35 J ob has spoken without knowledge, and his words were without prudence.

“Job habla sin conocimiento, y sus palabras no tienen sabiduría.

36 M y desire is that Job may be tried unto the end, that there may be answers against wicked men.

“Job debe ser juzgado hasta el límite, porque responde como los hombres perversos.

37 F or he added rebellion unto his sin, he claps his hands among us and multiplies his words against God.

“Porque a su pecado añade rebelión; bate palmas entre nosotros, y multiplica sus palabras contra Dios.”
