1 ¶ The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

Profecía sobre Nínive. Libro de la visión de Nahúm de Elcos.

2 ¶ God is jealous, and the LORD avenges; the LORD avenges and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserves wrath for his enemies.

Dios celoso y vengador es el Señor; vengador es el Señor e irascible. El Señor se venga de sus adversarios, y guarda rencor a sus enemigos.

3 T he LORD is slow to anger and great in power and will not at all treat the guilty as though they were innocent; the LORD whose way is in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

El Señor es lento para la ira y grande en poder, y ciertamente el Señor no dejará impune al culpable. En el torbellino y la tempestad está su camino, y las nubes son el polvo de sus pies.

4 H e reprehends the sea and makes it dry and dries up all the rivers; Bashan was destroyed, and Carmel; and the flower of Lebanon was destroyed.

El reprende al mar y lo hace secar, y todos los ríos agota. Languidecen Basán y el Carmelo, y las flores del Líbano se marchitan.

5 T he mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, and the world and all that dwell therein.

Los montes tiemblan ante El, y los collados se derriten; sí, en su presencia se levanta la tierra, el mundo y todos los que en él habitan.

6 W ho can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.

En presencia de su indignación, ¿quién resistirá ? ¿Quién se mantendrá en pie ante el ardor de su ira ? Su furor se derrama como fuego, y las rocas se despedazan ante El.

7 T he LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knows those that trust in him.

Bueno es el Señor, una fortaleza en el día de la angustia, y conoce a los que en El se refugian.

8 B ut with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of his place, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

Pero con inundación desbordante pondrá fin a Nínive, y perseguirá a sus enemigos aun en las tinieblas.

9 ¶ What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end; he will not hold back the tribulation the second time.

Lo que traméis contra el Señor, El lo hará completa destrucción; no surgirá dos veces la angustia.

10 F or while they are entwined together as thorns, and while the drunkards shall be drinking, they shall be devoured as stubble full of dryness.

Porque ellos como espinos enmarañados, y ebrios con su bebida, serán consumidos como paja totalmente seca.

11 H e has come out of thee that has imagined evil against the LORD, a counsellor of Belial.

De ti ha salido el que ha tramado el mal contra el Señor, un consejero perverso.

12 T hus hath the LORD said: For much rest that they have, and though they are many, yet thus shall they be cut down, and he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.

Así dice el Señor: Aunque estén con todo su vigor y por más que sean muchos, aun así serán cortados y desaparecerán. Aunque te haya afligido, no te afligiré más.

13 F or now I will break his yoke from off thee and will burst thy bonds in sunder.

Y ahora, quebraré su yugo de sobre ti, y romperé tus coyundas.

14 A nd the LORD shall give a commandment concerning thee that no one else of thy name ever be sown; out of the house of thy god I will cut off the graven image and the molten image; I will make it thy grave because thou wert vile.

El Señor ha dado una orden en cuanto a ti: No se perpetuará más tu nombre. De la casa de tus dioses arrancaré los ídolos y las imágenes de fundición. Yo prepararé tu sepultura, porque eres vil.

15 B ehold upon the mountains the feet of him that brings good tidings, of him that publishes peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows; for Belial shall no longer pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.

He aquí sobre los montes los pies del que trae buenas nuevas, del que anuncia la paz. Celebra tus fiestas, Judá, cumple tus votos. Porque nunca más volverá a pasar por ti el malvado; ha sido exterminado por completo.
