1 ¶ And Solomon became a relative of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, for he took Pharaoh’s daughter to wife and brought her into the city of David until he had finished building his own house, and the house of the LORD and the wall of Jerusalem round about.

Salomón estableció parentesco con el faraón, rey de Egipto, pues tomó la hija del faraón y la trajo a la ciudad de David, mientras acababa de edificar su casa, la casa de Jehová y los muros en torno a Jerusalén.

2 U ntil then the people sacrificed in high places because there was still no house built unto the name of the LORD until those days.

Hasta entonces el pueblo sacrificaba en los lugares altos, porque en aquellos tiempos no había aún casa edificada al nombre de Jehová. Salomón pide sabiduría

3 A nd Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David, his father; only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.

Pero Salomón amó a Jehová, y anduvo en los estatutos de su padre David; solamente sacrificaba y quemaba incienso en los lugares altos.

4 A nd the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place; a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.

Iba el rey a Gabaón, porque aquél era el lugar alto principal, y sacrificaba allí; mil holocaustos sacrificaba Salomón sobre aquel altar.

5 ¶ In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, Ask what you wish that I shall give thee.

En Gabaón se le apareció en sueños Jehová a Salomón una noche. Y le dijo Dios: —Pide lo que quieras que yo te dé.

6 A nd Solomon said, Thou hast shown unto thy slave David, my father, great mercy, according to the way he walked before thee in truth and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great mercy that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.

Salomón le respondió: —Tú has tenido gran misericordia con tu siervo David, mi padre, porque él anduvo delante de ti en verdad, en justicia y rectitud de corazón para contigo. Tú le has reservado esta tu gran misericordia, al darle un hijo que se sentara en su trono, como sucede en este día.

7 A nd now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy slave king instead of David my father; and I am but a tender young man; I do not know how to go out or come in.

Ahora pues, Jehová, Dios mío, tú me has hecho rey a mí, tu siervo, en lugar de David, mi padre. Yo soy joven y no sé cómo entrar ni salir.

8 A nd thy slave is in the midst of thy people whom thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

Tu siervo está en medio de tu pueblo, el que tú escogiste; un pueblo grande, que no se puede contar por su multitud incalculable.

9 G ive, therefore, thy slave a hearing heart to judge thy people that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this thy so great a people?

Concede, pues, a tu siervo un corazón que entienda para juzgar a tu pueblo y discernir entre lo bueno y lo malo, pues ¿quién podrá gobernar a este pueblo tuyo tan grande?

10 A nd the speech pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this thing.

Al Señor le agradó que Salomón pidiera esto.

11 A nd God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing and hast not asked for thyself long life neither hast asked riches for thyself nor hast asked the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself understanding to hear judgment,

Y le dijo Dios: —Porque has demandado esto, y no pediste para ti muchos días, ni pediste para ti riquezas, ni pediste la vida de tus enemigos, sino que demandaste para ti inteligencia para oír juicio,

12 b ehold, I have done according to thy words: behold, I have given thee a wise and understanding heart so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

voy a obrar conforme a tus palabras: Te he dado un corazón sabio y entendido, tanto que no ha habido antes de ti otro como tú, ni después de ti se levantará otro como tú.

13 A nd I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches and glory so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee in all thy days.

También te he dado las cosas que no pediste, riquezas y gloria, de tal manera que entre los reyes ninguno haya como tú en todos tus días.

14 A nd if thou wilt walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments as thy father David walked, then I will lengthen thy days.

Y si andas en mis caminos, guardando mis preceptos y mis mandamientos, como anduvo tu padre David, yo alargaré tus días.

15 A nd when Solomon awoke, he beheld it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings and made a banquet for all his slaves.

Cuando Salomón despertó, comprendió que era sueño. Luego fue a Jerusalén y se presentó delante del Arca del pacto de Jehová, sacrificó holocaustos y ofreció sacrificios de paz. También ofreció un banquete a todos sus siervos. Sabiduría y prosperidad de Salomón

16 ¶ In that season two women, that were harlots, came unto the king and stood before him.

En aquel tiempo vinieron al rey dos mujeres rameras y se presentaron ante él.

17 A nd the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house, and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.

Una de ellas dijo: —¡Ah, señor mío! Yo y esta mujer habitábamos en una misma casa, y yo di a luz estando con ella en la casa.

18 A nd it came to pass the third day after I was delivered that this woman was delivered also and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, except the two of us in the house.

Aconteció que al tercer día de dar yo a luz, ésta dio a luz también, y habitábamos nosotras juntas; ningún extraño estaba en la casa, fuera de nosotras dos.

19 A nd this woman’s child died in the night because she lay on top of him.

Una noche el hijo de esta mujer murió, porque ella se acostó sobre él.

20 A nd she arose at midnight and took my son from beside me while thy handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom and laid her dead child in my bosom.

Ella se levantó a medianoche y quitó a mi hijo de mi lado, mientras yo, tu sierva, estaba durmiendo; lo puso a su lado y colocó al lado mío a su hijo muerto.

21 A nd when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead; but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I had given birth to.

Cuando me levanté de madrugada para dar el pecho a mi hijo, encontré que estaba muerto; pero lo observé por la mañana y vi que no era mi hijo, el que yo había dado a luz.

22 A nd the other woman said, No, but my son is alive, and thy son is dead. And this one said, No, but thy son is dead, and my son is alive. Thus they spoke before the king.

Entonces la otra mujer dijo: —No; mi hijo es el que vive y tu hijo es el que ha muerto. —No; tu hijo es el muerto, y mi hijo es el que vive —volvió a decir la otra. Así discutían delante del rey.

23 T hen said the king, The one saith, This is my son that is alive, and thy son is dead. And the other saith, No; but thy son is dead, and my son is alive.

El rey entonces dijo: «Ésta afirma: “Mi hijo es el que vive y tu hijo es el que ha muerto”; la otra dice: “No, el tuyo es el muerto y mi hijo es el que vive.”»

24 A nd the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.

Y añadió el rey: —Traedme una espada. Y trajeron al rey una espada.

25 A nd the king said, Divide the living child in two and give half to the one and half to the other.

En seguida el rey dijo: —Partid en dos al niño vivo, y dad la mitad a la una y la otra mitad a la otra.

26 T hen the woman, of whom the living child was, spoke unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.

Entonces la mujer de quien era el hijo vivo habló al rey (porque sus entrañas se le conmovieron por su hijo), y le dijo: —¡Ah, señor mío! Dad a ésta el niño vivo, y no lo matéis. —Ni a mí ni a ti; ¡partidlo! —dijo la otra.

27 T hen the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it, for she is its mother.

Entonces el rey respondió: —Entregad a aquélla el niño vivo, y no lo matéis; ella es su madre.

28 A nd all Israel heard of that judgment which the king had judged, and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to judge.

Todo Israel oyó aquel juicio que había pronunciado el rey, y temieron al rey, pues vieron que Dios le había dado sabiduría para juzgar.
