1 ¶ Then all the publicans and sinners drew near unto him to hear him.

Se acercaban a Jesús todos los publicanos y pecadores para oírlo,

2 A nd the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receives sinners and eats with them.

y los fariseos y los escribas murmuraban, diciendo: —Éste recibe a los pecadores y come con ellos.

3 A nd he spoke this parable unto them, saying,

Entonces él les refirió esta parábola, diciendo:

4 W hat man of you having a hundred sheep if he lose one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after that which is lost until he finds it?

«¿Qué hombre de vosotros, si tiene cien ovejas y se le pierde una de ellas, no deja las noventa y nueve en el desierto y va tras la que se perdió, hasta encontrarla?

5 A nd when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

Cuando la encuentra, la pone sobre sus hombros gozoso,

6 A nd when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost.

y al llegar a casa reúne a sus amigos y vecinos, y les dice: “Gozaos conmigo, porque he encontrado mi oveja que se había perdido.”

7 I say unto you that likewise there shall be more joy in heaven over one sinner that repents than over ninety-nine just persons, who need no repentance.

Os digo que así habrá más gozo en el cielo por un pecador que se arrepiente, que por noventa y nueve justos que no necesitan de arrepentimiento. Parábola de la moneda perdida

8 O r what woman having ten drachmas, if she loses one drachma, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it?

»¿O qué mujer que tiene diez dracmas, si pierde una dracma, no enciende la lámpara, barre la casa y busca con diligencia hasta encontrarla?

9 A nd when she has found it, she calls her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma which I had lost.

Y cuando la encuentra, reúne a sus amigas y vecinas, y les dice: “Gozaos conmigo, porque he encontrado la dracma que había perdido.”

10 L ikewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repents.

Así os digo que hay gozo delante de los ángeles de Dios por un pecador que se arrepiente.» Parábola del hijo pródigo

11 ¶ And he said, A certain man had two sons;

También dijo: «Un hombre tenía dos hijos,

12 a nd the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of the estate that falls to me. And he divided unto them his living.

y el menor de ellos dijo a su padre: “Padre, dame la parte de los bienes que me corresponde.” Y les repartió los bienes.

13 A nd not many days after, the younger son gathered all together and took his journey into a far country and there wasted his estate with riotous living.

No muchos días después, juntándolo todo, el hijo menor se fue lejos a una provincia apartada, y allí desperdició sus bienes viviendo perdidamente.

14 A nd when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.

Cuando todo lo hubo malgastado, vino una gran hambre en aquella provincia y comenzó él a pasar necesidad.

15 A nd he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

Entonces fue y se arrimó a uno de los ciudadanos de aquella tierra, el cual lo envió a su hacienda para que apacentara cerdos.

16 A nd he longed to fill his belly with the husks that the swine ate, but no one gave them unto him.

Deseaba llenar su vientre de las algarrobas que comían los cerdos, pero nadie le daba.

17 A nd when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have abundance of bread, and I perish here with hunger!

Volviendo en sí, dijo: “¡Cuántos jornaleros en casa de mi padre tienen abundancia de pan, y yo aquí perezco de hambre!

18 I will arise and go to my father and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee

Me levantaré e iré a mi padre, y le diré: ‘Padre, he pecado contra el cielo y contra ti.

19 a nd am no longer worthy to be called thy son; make me as one of thy hired servants.

Ya no soy digno de ser llamado tu hijo; hazme como a uno de tus jornaleros.’”

20 A nd he arose and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him and was moved with compassion and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.

Entonces se levantó y fue a su padre. Cuando aún estaba lejos, lo vio su padre y fue movido a misericordia, y corrió y se echó sobre su cuello y lo besó.

21 A nd the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and in thy sight and am no longer worthy to be called thy son.

El hijo le dijo: “Padre, he pecado contra el cielo y contra ti, y ya no soy digno de ser llamado tu hijo.”

22 B ut the father said to his slaves, Bring forth the best robe and put it on him and put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet

Pero el padre dijo a sus siervos: “Sacad el mejor vestido y vestidle; y poned un anillo en su dedo y calzado en sus pies.

23 a nd bring here the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and be merry;

Traed el becerro gordo y matadlo, y comamos y hagamos fiesta,

24 f or this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found. And they began to be merry.

porque éste, mi hijo, muerto era y ha revivido; se había perdido y es hallado.” Y comenzaron a regocijarse.

25 N ow his elder son was in the field, and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.

»El hijo mayor estaba en el campo. Al regresar, cerca ya de la casa, oyó la música y las danzas;

26 A nd he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant.

y llamando a uno de los criados le preguntó qué era aquello.

27 A nd he said unto him, Thy brother is come, and thy father has killed the fatted calf because he has received him safe and sound.

El criado le dijo: “Tu hermano ha regresado y tu padre ha hecho matar el becerro gordo por haberlo recibido bueno y sano.”

28 A nd he was angry and would not go in, therefore his father came out and intreated him.

Entonces se enojó y no quería entrar. Salió por tanto su padre, y le rogaba que entrara.

29 A nd he, answering, said to his father, Behold, these many years I have served thee, neither at any time have I transgressed thy commandment; and yet thou never gavest me a kid that I might make merry with my friends.

Pero él, respondiendo, dijo al padre: “Tantos años hace que te sirvo, no habiéndote desobedecido jamás, y nunca me has dado ni un cabrito para gozarme con mis amigos.

30 B ut as soon as this thy son was come who has devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed the fatted calf for him.

Pero cuando vino este hijo tuyo, que ha consumido tus bienes con rameras, has hecho matar para él el becerro gordo.”

31 A nd he said unto him, Son, thou art always with me, and all that I have is thine.

Él entonces le dijo: “Hijo, tú siempre estás conmigo y todas mis cosas son tuyas.

32 I t was necessary that we should make merry and be glad, for this thy brother was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.

Pero era necesario hacer fiesta y regocijarnos, porque este tu hermano estaba muerto y ha revivido; se había perdido y ha sido hallado.”»
