1 ¶ Now there were in the congregation that was at Antioch prophets and teachers: Barnabas and Simeon that was called Niger and Lucius of Cyrene and Manaen, who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

Había entonces en la iglesia que estaba en Antioquía, profetas y maestros: Bernabé, Simón el que se llamaba Níger, Lucio de Cirene, Manaén el que se había criado junto con Herodes el tetrarca, y Saulo.

2 A s they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work unto which I have called them.

Ministrando estos al Señor y ayunando, dijo el Espíritu Santo: «Apartadme a Bernabé y a Saulo para la obra a que los he llamado.»

3 A nd when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they released them.

Entonces, habiendo ayunado y orado, les impusieron las manos y los despidieron. Predicación en Chipre

4 ¶ So they, being sent forth by the Holy Spirit, departed unto Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.

Ellos, entonces, enviados por el Espíritu Santo, descendieron a Seleucia, y de allí navegaron a Chipre.

5 A nd when they arrived at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews, and they also had John as an attendant.

Al llegar a Salamina, anunciaban la palabra de Dios en las sinagogas de los judíos. Tenían también a Juan de ayudante.

6 A nd when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain wise man, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Barjesus,

Habiendo atravesado toda la isla hasta Pafos, hallaron a cierto mago, falso profeta, judío, llamado Barjesús,

7 w ho was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man, who called for Barnabas and Saul and desired to hear the word of God.

que estaba con el procónsul Sergio Paulo, varón prudente. Éste, llamando a Bernabé y a Saulo, deseaba oír la palabra de Dios.

8 B ut Elymas the wise man (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the proconsul from the faith.

Pero los resistía Elimas, el mago (pues así se traduce su nombre), intentando apartar de la fe al procónsul.

9 T hen Saul (who also is Paul), filled with the Holy Spirit, set his eyes on him

Entonces Saulo, que también es Pablo, lleno del Espíritu Santo, fijando en él los ojos,

10 a nd said, O full of all deception and all licentiousness, thou son of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

le dijo: —¡Lleno de todo engaño y de toda maldad, hijo del diablo, enemigo de toda justicia! ¿No cesarás de trastornar los caminos rectos del Señor?

11 A nd now, behold, the hand of the Lord is against thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness, and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

Ahora, pues, la mano del Señor está contra ti, y quedarás ciego y no verás el sol por algún tiempo. Inmediatamente cayeron sobre él oscuridad y tinieblas; y andando alrededor, buscaba quien lo condujera de la mano.

12 T hen the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

Entonces el procónsul, viendo lo que había sucedido, creyó, admirado de la doctrina del Señor. Predicación en Antioquía de Pisidia

13 N ow when Paul and his company sailed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia; then John, departing from them, returned to Jerusalem.

Habiendo zarpado de Pafos, Pablo y sus compañeros llegaron a Perge de Panfilia; pero Juan, apartándose de ellos, volvió a Jerusalén.

14 ¶ But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day and sat down.

Ellos, pasando de Perge, llegaron a Antioquía de Pisidia; y entraron en la sinagoga un sábado y se sentaron.

15 A nd after the reading of the law and the prophets the princes of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, speak.

Después de la lectura de la Ley y de los Profetas, los altos dignatarios de la sinagoga mandaron a decirles: —Hermanos, si tenéis alguna palabra de exhortación para el pueblo, hablad.

16 T hen Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel and ye that fear God hearken.

Entonces Pablo se levantó y, hecha señal de silencio con la mano, dijo: —Israelitas y los que teméis a Dios, oíd:

17 T he God of this people of Israel chose our fathers and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with a high arm he brought them out of it.

El Dios de este pueblo de Israel escogió a nuestros padres y enalteció al pueblo siendo ellos extranjeros en tierra de Egipto, y con brazo levantado los sacó de ella.

18 A nd for the time of about forty years, he suffered their manners in the wilderness.

Por un tiempo como de cuarenta años los soportó en el desierto,

19 A nd when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he divided their land to them by lot.

y habiendo destruido siete naciones en la tierra de Canaán, les dio en herencia su territorio.

20 A nd after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.

Después, como por cuatrocientos cincuenta años, les dio jueces hasta el profeta Samuel.

21 A nd afterward they asked for a king, and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.

Luego pidieron rey, y Dios les dio a Saúl, hijo de Cis, varón de la tribu de Benjamín, por cuarenta años.

22 A nd when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king, to whom also he gave testimony, saying, I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who shall fulfil all my will.

Quitado éste, les levantó por rey a David, de quien dio también testimonio diciendo: “He hallado a David, hijo de Isaí, varón conforme a mi corazón, quien hará todo lo que yo quiero.”

23 O f this man’s seed has God according to his promise raised up Jesus as Saviour unto Israel:

De la descendencia de éste, y conforme a la promesa, Dios levantó a Jesús por Salvador a Israel.

24 J ohn, having first proclaimed before his coming, the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.

Antes de su venida, predicó Juan el bautismo de arrepentimiento a todo el pueblo de Israel.

25 A nd as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there comes one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.

Cuando Juan terminaba su carrera, dijo: “¿Quién pensáis que soy? Yo no soy él; pero viene tras mí uno de quien no soy digno de desatar el calzado de los pies.”

26 M en and brethren, sons of the lineage of Abraham, and whosoever among you fears God, unto you is this word of saving health sent.

»Hermanos, hijos del linaje de Abraham y los que entre vosotros teméis a Dios, a vosotros es enviada la palabra de esta salvación,

27 F or those that dwell at Jerusalem and their princes, because they knew him not nor yet the voices of the prophets who are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.

porque los habitantes de Jerusalén y sus gobernantes, que no conocían a Jesús ni las palabras de los profetas que se leen todos los sábados, las cumplieron al condenarlo.

28 A nd without finding cause of death in him, yet they asked Pilate that he should be slain.

Sin hallar en él causa digna de muerte, pidieron a Pilato que se le matara.

29 A nd when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a sepulchre.

Y cuando cumplieron todas las cosas que de él estaban escritas, lo bajaron del madero y lo pusieron en el sepulcro.

30 B ut God raised him from the dead,

Pero Dios lo levantó de los muertos.

31 a nd he was seen many days by those who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who until now are his witnesses unto the people.

Y él se apareció durante muchos días a los que habían subido juntamente con él de Galilea a Jerusalén, los cuales ahora son sus testigos ante el pueblo.

32 A nd we declare unto you the gospel of the promise which was made unto the fathers,

»Nosotros también os anunciamos el evangelio de aquella promesa hecha a nuestros padres,

33 w hich God has fulfilled unto us their children, in that he has raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

la cual Dios nos ha cumplido a nosotros, sus hijos, resucitando a Jesús; como está escrito también en el salmo segundo: “Mi hijo eres tú, yo te he engendrado hoy.”

34 A nd as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said this, I will give you the sure mercies promised to David.

Y en cuanto a que lo levantó de los muertos para nunca más volver a corrupción, lo dijo así: “Os daré las misericordias fieles de David.”

35 T herefore he also says in another place, Thou shalt not suffer thy Holy One to see corruption.

Por eso dice también en otro salmo: “No permitirás que tu Santo vea corrupción.”

36 F or David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep and was gathered unto his fathers and saw corruption;

Y a la verdad David, habiendo servido a su propia generación según la voluntad de Dios, durmió y fue reunido con sus padres, y vio corrupción.

37 b ut he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.

Pero aquel a quien Dios levantó, no vio corrupción.

38 B e it known unto you, therefore, men and brethren, that through this one is preached unto you the remission of sins;

Sabed, pues, esto, hermanos: que por medio de él se os anuncia perdón de pecados,

39 a nd in him all that believe are justified from all the things from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

y que de todo aquello de que no pudisteis ser justificados por la Ley de Moisés, en él es justificado todo aquel que cree.

40 B eware, therefore, lest what is spoken of in the prophets come upon you:

Mirad, pues, que no venga sobre vosotros lo que está dicho en los profetas:

41 B ehold, ye despisers, and wonder and perish, for I do a work in your days, a work which ye would in no wise believe, if one should declare it unto you.

»“Mirad, menospreciadores, asombraos y desapareced, porque yo hago una obra en vuestros días, obra que no creeréis, si alguien os la cuenta.”

42 ¶ And when they were gone out of the synagogue of the Jews, the Gentiles besought that these words might be spoken to them the next sabbath.

Cuando salieron ellos de la sinagoga de los judíos, los gentiles les rogaron que el siguiente sábado les hablaran de estas cosas.

43 N ow when the synagogue was dismissed, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, persuaded them to remain in the grace of God.

Y despedida la congregación, muchos de los judíos y de los prosélitos piadosos siguieron a Pablo y a Bernabé, quienes hablándoles los persuadían a que perseveraran en la gracia de Dios.

44 A nd the next sabbath day almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God.

El siguiente sábado se juntó casi toda la ciudad para oír la palabra de Dios.

45 B ut when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy and spoke against that which Paul said, contradicting and blaspheming.

Pero viendo los judíos la muchedumbre, se llenaron de celos y rebatían lo que Pablo decía, contradiciendo y blasfemando.

46 T hen Paul and Barnabas speaking with freedom, said, It was necessary indeed that the word of God should first have been spoken to you; but seeing ye put it from you and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

Entonces Pablo y Bernabé, hablando con valentía, dijeron: —A vosotros, a la verdad, era necesario que se os hablara primero la palabra de Dios; pero puesto que la desecháis y no os juzgáis dignos de la vida eterna, nos volvemos a los gentiles,

47 F or so has the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles that thou should be for saving health unto the ends of the earth.

porque así nos ha mandado el Señor, diciendo: »“Te he puesto para luz de los gentiles, a fin de que seas para salvación hasta lo último de la tierra.”

48 A nd when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord, and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

Los gentiles, oyendo esto, se regocijaban y glorificaban la palabra del Señor, y creyeron todos los que estaban ordenados para vida eterna.

49 A nd the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.

Y la palabra del Señor se difundía por toda aquella provincia.

50 B ut the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women and the principals of the city and raised up persecution against Paul and Barnabas and expelled them out of their borders.

Pero los judíos instigaron a mujeres piadosas y distinguidas, y a los principales de la ciudad, y levantaron persecución contra Pablo y Bernabé, y los expulsaron de sus límites.

51 B ut they shook off the dust of their feet against them and came unto Iconium.

Ellos, entonces, sacudiendo contra ellos el polvo de sus pies, llegaron a Iconio.

52 A nd the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

Y los discípulos estaban llenos de gozo y del Espíritu Santo.
