1 ¶ And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem and called for the elders of Israel and for their princes and for their judges and for their officers, and they presented themselves before God.

Reunió Josué a todas las tribus de Israel en Siquem, y llamó a los ancianos de Israel, a sus príncipes, sus jueces y sus oficiales. Todos se presentaron delante de Dios.

2 A nd Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Long ago your fathers dwelt on the other side of the river, even Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nachor, and they served other gods.

Josué dijo a todo el pueblo: —Así dice Jehová, el Dios de Israel: “Vuestros padres habitaron antiguamente al otro lado del río, esto es, Taré, padre de Abraham y de Nacor, y servían a dioses extraños.

3 A nd I took your father Abraham from the other side of the river and led him throughout all the land of Canaan and multiplied his generation and gave him Isaac.

Yo tomé a vuestro padre Abraham del otro lado del río y lo traje por toda la tierra de Canaán, aumenté su descendencia y le di a Isaac.

4 A nd to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau, and to Esau I gave Mount Seir to possess it; but Jacob and his sons went down into Egypt.

A Isaac le di a Jacob y a Esaú. A Esaú le di en posesión los montes de Seir, pero Jacob y sus hijos descendieron a Egipto.

5 I sent Moses also and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them; and afterward I brought you out.

Entonces yo envié a Moisés y a Aarón, y castigué a Egipto con lo que hice en medio de él, y después os saqué.

6 A nd I brought your fathers out of Egypt; and when ye came to the sea, the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen unto the Red sea.

Saqué a vuestros padres de Egipto, y llegaron al mar; los egipcios siguieron a vuestros padres hasta el Mar Rojo con carros y caballería.

7 A nd when they cried unto the LORD, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians and brought the sea upon them and covered them; and your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt; and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season.

Cuando ellos clamaron a Jehová, él interpuso una gran oscuridad entre vosotros y los egipcios, e hizo volver sobre ellos el mar, el cual los cubrió. Vuestros ojos vieron lo que hice en Egipto. »”Después estuvisteis muchos días en el desierto.

8 A nd I brought you into the land of the Amorites, who dwelt on the other side of the Jordan, and they fought with you, but I delivered them into your hands that ye might possess their land, and I destroyed them from before you.

Yo os introduje en la tierra de los amorreos, que habitaban al otro lado del Jordán, los cuales pelearon contra vosotros, pero yo los entregué en vuestras manos; ocupasteis su tierra, porque yo los exterminé de delante de vosotros.

9 T hen Balak, the son of Zippor, king of the Moabites, arose and warred against Israel and sent and called Balaam, the son of Beor, to curse you.

Después se levantó Balac hijo de Zipor, rey de los moabitas, a pelear contra Israel, y mandó a llamar a Balaam hijo de Beor para que os maldijera.

10 B ut I would not hearken unto Balaam; to the contrary, he blessed you repeatedly, and I delivered you out of his hand.

Pero yo no quise escuchar a Balaam, por lo cual os bendijo repetidamente, y os libré de sus manos.

11 A nd ye passed the Jordan and came to Jericho; and the lords of Jericho fought against you: the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hands.

Pasasteis el Jordán y llegasteis a Jericó, pero los habitantes de Jericó pelearon contra vosotros: los amorreos, ferezeos, cananeos, heteos, gergeseos, heveos y jebuseos, y yo los entregué en vuestras manos.

12 A nd I sent hornets before you, which drove them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites, but not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.

Envié delante de vosotros tábanos, los cuales expulsaron a los dos reyes amorreos antes de llegar vosotros; no fue con tu espada ni con tu arco.

13 A nd I have given you a land for which ye did not labour and cities which ye did not build, and ye dwell in them and eat of vineyards and oliveyards which ye did not plant.

Os di la tierra por la cual no trabajasteis y las ciudades que no edificasteis, y en las que ahora habitáis; y coméis de las viñas y olivares que no plantasteis”.

14 N ow therefore fear the LORD and serve him in perfection and in truth and put away from among you the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the river and in Egypt, and serve ye the LORD.

»Ahora, pues, temed a Jehová y servidlo con integridad y verdad; quitad de en medio de vosotros los dioses a los cuales sirvieron vuestros padres al otro lado del río y en Egipto, y servid a Jehová.

15 ¶ And if it seems evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the river or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Si mal os parece servir a Jehová, escogeos hoy a quién sirváis; si a los dioses a quienes sirvieron vuestros padres cuando estuvieron al otro lado del río, o a los dioses de los amorreos en cuya tierra habitáis; pero yo y mi casa serviremos a Jehová.

16 T hen the people answered and said, May it never happen that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods.

Entonces el pueblo respondió: —Nunca tal acontezca, que dejemos a Jehová para servir a otros dioses,

17 F or the LORD our God, he it is that brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt from the house of slavery and who did those great signs in our sight and has kept us in all the way in which we went and among all the peoples through whom we passed.

porque Jehová, nuestro Dios, es el que nos sacó a nosotros y a nuestros padres de la tierra de Egipto, de la casa de servidumbre; el que ha hecho estas grandes señales, y nos ha guardado durante todo el camino por donde hemos andado, y en todos los pueblos por los cuales pasamos.

18 A nd the LORD drove out from before us all the peoples, even the Amorites which dwelt in the land; therefore, will we also serve the LORD, for he is our God.

Además, Jehová expulsó de delante de nosotros a todos los pueblos, y al amorreo que habitaba en la tierra. Nosotros, pues, también serviremos a Jehová, porque él es nuestro Dios.

19 T hen Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD, for he is a holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not allow your rebellions nor your sins.

Entonces Josué dijo al pueblo: —No podréis servir a Jehová, porque él es un Dios santo y un Dios celoso que no sufrirá vuestras rebeliones y vuestros pecados.

20 I f ye forsake the LORD and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt and consume you, after he has done you good.

Si dejáis a Jehová y servís a dioses ajenos, él se volverá contra vosotros, os hará el mal y os destruirá, después que os ha hecho tanto bien.

21 A nd the people said unto Joshua, No, but we will serve the LORD.

El pueblo entonces dijo a Josué: —No, sino que a Jehová serviremos.

22 A nd Joshua said unto the people, Ye shall be witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen the LORD, to serve him. And they said, We shall be witnesses.

Josué respondió al pueblo: —Vosotros sois testigos contra vosotros mismos de que habéis elegido a Jehová para servirlo. —Testigos somos —respondieron ellos.

23 N ow, therefore, take away, the strange gods which are among you and incline your heart unto the LORD God of Israel.

—Quitad, pues, ahora los dioses ajenos que están entre vosotros, e inclinad vuestro corazón a Jehová, Dios de Israel.

24 A nd the people replied unto Joshua, We will serve the LORD our God and hear his voice.

El pueblo respondió a Josué: —A Jehová, nuestro Dios, serviremos y a su voz obedeceremos.

25 S o Joshua made a covenant with the people that day and set them statutes and laws in Shechem.

Entonces Josué hizo un pacto con el pueblo aquel mismo día, y les dio estatutos y leyes en Siquem.

26 A nd Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and taking a great stone, he set it up there under an oak that was in the sanctuary of the LORD.

Josué escribió estas palabras en el libro de la ley de Dios, tomó una gran piedra y la plantó allí debajo de la encina que estaba junto al santuario de Jehová.

27 A nd Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us, for it has heard all the words of the LORD which he spoke unto us: it shall be, therefore, a witness unto you lest ye deny your God.

Y dijo Josué a todo el pueblo: —Esta piedra nos servirá de testigo, porque ella ha oído todas las palabras que Jehová nos ha hablado; será, pues, testigo contra vosotros, para que no mintáis contra vuestro Dios.

28 S o Joshua sent the people, each one unto his inheritance.

Después despidió Josué al pueblo, y cada uno volvió a su posesión. Muerte de Josué

29 ¶ And after these things, Joshua, the son of Nun, the slave of the LORD, died, being one hundred and ten years old.

Después de estas cosas murió Josué hijo de Nun, siervo de Jehová, a la edad de ciento diez años.

30 A nd they buried him within the border of his inheritance in Timnathserah, which is in Mount Ephraim, on the north side of the Mountain of Gaash.

Lo sepultaron en su heredad en Timnat-sera, que está en los montes de Efraín, al norte del monte Gaas.

31 A nd Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua and who had known all the works of the LORD that he had done with Israel.

Israel sirvió a Jehová durante toda la vida de Josué, y durante toda la vida de los ancianos que sobrevivieron a Josué y que sabían todo lo que Jehová había hecho por Israel. Sepultura de los huesos de José en Siquem

32 A nd the bones of Joseph, which the sons of Israel had brought up out of Egypt, they buried in Shechem in the part of the field which Jacob bought from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem, for one hundred ewes, and it became the inheritance of the sons of Joseph.

Enterraron en Siquem los huesos de José que los hijos de Israel habían traído de Egipto, en la parte del campo que Jacob compró, por cien monedas, de los hijos de Hamor, padre de Siquem, y que pasó a ser posesión de los hijos de José. Muerte de Eleazar

33 A nd Eleazar, the son of Aaron, died, and they buried him in the hill of Phinehas, his son, which was given to him in the mountain of Ephraim.

También murió Eleazar hijo de Aarón, y lo enterraron en el collado de Finees, su hijo, que le fue dado en los montes de Efraín.
