1 ¶ Hearken, ye sons, unto the chastening of the father, and pay attention that ye might know understanding.

»Escuchad, hijos, la enseñanza de un padre; estad atentos, para adquirir cordura.

2 F or I give you good doctrine; do not forsake my law.

Yo os doy buena enseñanza; por eso, no descuidéis mi instrucción.

3 F or I was my father’s son, tender and unique in the sight of my mother.

Yo también fui un hijo para mi padre, delicado y único a los ojos de mi madre.

4 H e taught me and said unto me, Sustain thine heart with my words; keep my commandments, and live.

Él me enseñaba, diciendo: “Retén mis razones en tu corazón, guarda mis mandamientos y vivirás.”

5 G et wisdom, get understanding; forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

Adquiere sabiduría, adquiere inteligencia, no te olvides de ella ni te apartes de las razones de mi boca;

6 F orsake her not, and she shall preserve thee; love her, and she shall keep thee.

No la abandones, y ella te guardará; Ámala, y te protegerá.

7 W isdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Sabiduría ante todo, ¡adquiere sabiduría! Sobre todo lo que posees, ¡adquiere inteligencia!

8 G row in wisdom, and she shall promote thee; she shall bring thee to honour when thou hast embraced her.

Engrandécela, y ella te engrandecerá; te honrará, si tú la abrazas.

9 S he shall give to thine head an increase of grace; a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

Un adorno de gracia pondrá en tu cabeza; una corona de belleza te entregará.

10 H ear, O my son, and receive my words, and the years of thy life shall be multiplied.

»Escucha, hijo mío, recibe mis razones y se te multiplicarán los años de tu vida.

11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have caused thee to walk in right paths.

Por el camino de la sabiduría te he encaminado, por veredas derechas te he hecho andar.

12 W hen thou goest in these paths, thy steps shall not be hindered; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

Cuando andes, no se acortarán tus pasos; si corres, no tropezarás.

13 T ake fast hold of chastening; do not let go; keep this; for it is thy life.

Aférrate a la instrucción, no la dejes; guárdala, porque ella es tu vida.

14 ¶ Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

No entres en la vereda de los impíos ni vayas por el camino de los malos.

15 A void it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

Déjala, no pases por ella; apártate de ella, pasa de largo.

16 F or they do not sleep, unless they have done evil; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause someone to fall.

Pues ellos no duermen si no hacen el mal; pierden el sueño si no hacen caer a alguno.

17 F or they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

Porque su comida es pan de maldad, y su bebida, vino de violencia.

18 B ut the path of the just is as the light of the morning star, that shines more and more until the day is perfect.

La senda de los justos es como la luz de la aurora, que va en aumento hasta que el día es perfecto;

19 T he way of the wicked is as darkness; they do not know in what they stumble.

pero el camino de los malvados es como la oscuridad, y no saben en qué tropiezan.

20 ¶ My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my words.

»Hijo mío, está atento a mis palabras; inclina tu oído a mis razones.

21 L et them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

Que no se aparten de tus ojos; guárdalas en lo profundo de tu corazón,

22 F or they are life unto those that find them and medicine to all their flesh.

porque son vida para los que las hallan y medicina para todo su cuerpo.

23 A bove all else, guard thy heart; for out of it flows the issues of life.

Sobre toda cosa que guardes, guarda tu corazón, porque de él mana la vida.

24 P ut away from thee the perversion of the mouth, and the deviation of the lips put far from thee.

Aparta de ti la perversidad de la boca, aleja de ti la iniquidad de los labios.

25 L et thine eyes look upon that which is right, and let thine eyelids straighten thy path before thee.

Que tus ojos miren lo recto y que tus párpados se abran a lo que tienes delante.

26 P onder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

Examina la senda que siguen tus pies y sean rectos todos tus caminos.

27 T urn not to the right hand nor to the left; remove thy foot from evil.

No te desvíes a la derecha ni a la izquierda; aparta tu pie del mal.
