1 ¶ Hearken, ye sons, unto the chastening of the father, and pay attention that ye might know understanding.

Höret, meine Kinder, die Zucht eures Vaters; merket auf, daß ihr lernt und klug werdet!

2 F or I give you good doctrine; do not forsake my law.

Denn ich gebe euch eine gute Lehre; verlaßt mein Gesetz nicht.

3 F or I was my father’s son, tender and unique in the sight of my mother.

Denn ich war meines Vaters Sohn, ein zarter und ein einziger vor meiner Mutter.

4 H e taught me and said unto me, Sustain thine heart with my words; keep my commandments, and live.

Und er lehrte mich und sprach: Laß dein Herz meine Worte aufnehmen; halte meine Gebote, so wirst du leben.

5 G et wisdom, get understanding; forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

Nimm an Weisheit, nimm an Verstand; vergiß nicht und weiche nicht von der Rede meines Mundes.

6 F orsake her not, and she shall preserve thee; love her, and she shall keep thee.

Verlaß sie nicht, so wird sie dich bewahren; liebe sie, so wird sie dich behüten.

7 W isdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Denn der Weisheit Anfang ist, wenn man sie gerne hört und die Klugheit lieber hat als alle Güter.

8 G row in wisdom, and she shall promote thee; she shall bring thee to honour when thou hast embraced her.

Achte sie hoch, so wird sie dich erhöhen, und wird dich zu Ehren bringen, wo du sie herzest.

9 S he shall give to thine head an increase of grace; a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

Sie wird dein Haupt schön schmücken und wird dich zieren mit einer prächtigen Krone.

10 H ear, O my son, and receive my words, and the years of thy life shall be multiplied.

So höre, mein Kind, und nimm an meine Rede, so werden deiner Jahre viel werden.

11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have caused thee to walk in right paths.

Ich will dich den Weg der Weisheit führen; ich will dich auf rechter Bahn leiten,

12 W hen thou goest in these paths, thy steps shall not be hindered; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

daß, wenn du gehst, dein Gang dir nicht sauer werde, und wenn du läufst, daß du nicht anstoßest.

13 T ake fast hold of chastening; do not let go; keep this; for it is thy life.

Fasse die Zucht, laß nicht davon; bewahre sie, denn sie ist dein Leben.

14 ¶ Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

Komm nicht auf der Gottlosen Pfad und tritt nicht auf den Weg der Bösen.

15 A void it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

Laß ihn fahren und gehe nicht darin; weiche von ihm und gehe vorüber.

16 F or they do not sleep, unless they have done evil; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause someone to fall.

Denn sie schlafen nicht, sie haben denn Übel getan; und ruhen nicht, sie haben den Schaden getan.

17 F or they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

Denn sie nähren sich von gottlosem Brot und trinken vom Wein des Frevels.

18 B ut the path of the just is as the light of the morning star, that shines more and more until the day is perfect.

Aber der Gerechten Pfad glänzt wie das Licht, das immer heller leuchtet bis auf den vollen Tag.

19 T he way of the wicked is as darkness; they do not know in what they stumble.

Der Gottlosen Weg aber ist wie Dunkel; sie wissen nicht, wo sie fallen werden.

20 ¶ My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my words.

Mein Sohn, merke auf meine Worte und neige dein Ohr zu meiner Rede.

21 L et them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

Laß sie nicht von deinen Augen fahren, behalte sie in deinem Herzen.

22 F or they are life unto those that find them and medicine to all their flesh.

Denn sie sind das Leben denen, die sie finden, und gesund ihrem ganzen Leibe.

23 A bove all else, guard thy heart; for out of it flows the issues of life.

Behüte dein Herz mit allem Fleiß; denn daraus geht das Leben.

24 P ut away from thee the perversion of the mouth, and the deviation of the lips put far from thee.

Tue von dir den verkehrten Mund und laß das Lästermaul ferne von dir sein.

25 L et thine eyes look upon that which is right, and let thine eyelids straighten thy path before thee.

Laß deine Augen stracks vor sich sehen und deine Augenlider richtig vor dir hin blicken.

26 P onder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

Laß deinen Fuß gleich vor sich gehen, so gehst du gewiß.

27 T urn not to the right hand nor to the left; remove thy foot from evil.

Wanke weder zur Rechten noch zur Linken; wende deinen Fuß vom Bösen.
