1 ¶ The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water, he turns it wherever he will.

Des Königs Herz ist in der Hand des HERRN wie Wasserbäche, und er neigt es wohin er will.

2 ¶ Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD weighs the hearts.

Einen jeglichen dünkt sein Weg recht; aber der HERR wägt die Herzen.

3 ¶ To do righteousness and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.

Wohl und recht tun ist dem HERRN lieber denn Opfer.

4 ¶ A high look and a proud heart, which is the fire of the wicked, is sin.

Hoffärtige Augen und stolzer Mut, die Leuchte der Gottlosen, ist Sünde.

5 ¶ The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness, but of every one that is too hasty, only to want.

Die Anschläge eines Emsigen bringen Überfluß; wer aber allzu rasch ist, dem wird's mangeln.

6 ¶ The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of those that seek death.

Wer Schätze sammelt mit Lügen, der wird fehlgehen und ist unter denen, die den Tod suchen.

7 ¶ The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them because they refuse to do judgment.

Der Gottlosen Rauben wird sie erschrecken; denn sie wollten nicht tun, was recht war.

8 ¶ The way of the perverse man is crooked and strange, but as for the pure, his work is right.

Wer mit Schuld beladen ist, geht krumme Wege; wer aber rein ist, des Werk ist recht.

9 ¶ It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop than with a brawling woman in a wide house.

Es ist besser wohnen im Winkel auf dem Dach, denn bei einem zänkischen Weibe in einem Haus beisammen.

10 ¶ The soul of the wicked desires evil; his neighbour finds no favour in his eyes.

Die Seele des Gottlosen wünscht Arges und gönnt seinem Nächsten nichts.

11 ¶ When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise, and by instructing the wise, he receives wisdom.

Wenn der Spötter gestraft wird, so werden die Unvernünftigen Weise; und wenn man einen Weisen unterrichtet, so wird er vernünftig.

12 ¶ The righteous man wisely considers the house of the wicked, how God overthrows the wicked for their evil.

Der Gerechte hält sich weislich gegen des Gottlosen Haus; aber die Gottlosen denken nur Schaden zu tun.

13 ¶ Whosoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself but shall not be heard.

Wer seine Ohren verstopft vor dem Schreien des Armen, der wird auch rufen, und nicht erhört werden.

14 ¶ A gift in secret pacifies anger, and a bribe in the bosom strong wrath.

Eine heimliche Gabe stillt den Zorn, und ein Geschenk im Schoß den heftigen Grimm.

15 ¶ It is joy to the just to do judgment, but it shall be destruction to the workers of iniquity.

Es ist dem Gerechten eine Freude, zu tun, was recht ist, aber eine Furcht den Übeltätern.

16 ¶ The man that wanders out of the way of wisdom shall end up in the congregation of the dead.

Ein Mensch, der vom Wege der Klugheit irrt, wird bleiben in der Toten Gemeinde.

17 ¶ He that loves pleasure shall be a poor man; he that loves wine and oil shall not be rich.

Wer gern in Freuden lebt, dem wird's mangeln; und wer Wein und Öl liebt, wird nicht reich.

18 ¶ The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.

Der Gottlose muß für den Gerechten gegeben werden und der Verächter für die Frommen.

19 ¶ It is better to dwell in the wilderness than with a contentious and an angry woman.

Es ist besser, wohnen im wüsten Lande denn bei einem zänkischen und zornigen Weibe.

20 ¶ There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spends it up.

Im Hause des Weisen ist ein lieblicher Schatz und Öl; aber ein Narr verschlemmt es.

21 ¶ He that follows after righteousness and mercy shall find life, righteousness, and honour.

Wer der Gerechtigkeit und Güte nachjagt, der findet Leben, Gerechtigkeit und Ehre.

22 ¶ The wise man took the city of the mighty and cast down its strength in which it trusted.

Ein Weiser gewinnt die Stadt der Starken und stürzt ihre Macht, darauf sie sich verläßt.

23 ¶ Whosoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.

Wer seinen Mund und seine Zunge bewahrt, der bewahrt seine Seele vor Angst.

24 ¶ Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who deals in proud wrath.

Der stolz und vermessen ist, heißt ein Spötter, der im Zorn Stolz beweist.

25 ¶ The desire of the slothful kills him; for his hands refuse to labour.

Der Faule stirbt über seinem Wünschen; denn seine Hände wollen nichts tun.

26 T here is one who covets greedily all day long, but the righteous gives and keeps on giving.

Er wünscht den ganzen Tag; aber der Gerechte gibt, und versagt nicht.

27 ¶ The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination; how much more, when he brings it with lewdness?

Der Gottlosen Opfer ist ein Greuel; denn es wird in Sünden geopfert.

28 ¶ The false witness shall perish, but the man that hears shall stand fast in his word.

Ein lügenhafter Zeuge wird umkommen; aber wer sich sagen läßt, den läßt man auch allezeit wiederum reden.

29 ¶ The wicked man hardens his face, but as for the upright, he orders his ways.

Der Gottlose fährt mit dem Kopf hindurch; aber wer fromm ist, des Weg wird bestehen.

30 ¶ There is no wisdom nor intelligence nor counsel against the LORD.

Es hilft keine Weisheit, kein Verstand, kein Rat wider den HERRN.

31 T he horse is prepared against the day of battle, but salvation is of the LORD.

Rosse werden zum Streittage bereitet; aber der Sieg kommt vom HERRN.
