1 ¶ Of man are the preparations of the heart, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD.

Der Mensch setzt sich's wohl vor im Herzen; aber vom HERRN kommt, was die Zunge reden soll.

2 ¶ All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the spirits.

Einem jeglichen dünken seine Wege rein; aber der HERR wägt die Geister.

3 ¶ Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

Befiehl dem HERRN deine Werke, so werden deine Anschläge fortgehen.

4 ¶ The LORD has made all things by himself, yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

Der HERR macht alles zu bestimmtem Ziel, auch den Gottlosen für den bösen Tag.

5 ¶ Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; the covenant that he makes, shall not be without chastening.

Ein stolzes Herz ist dem HERRN ein Greuel und wird nicht ungestraft bleiben, wenn sie gleich alle aneinander hängen.

6 ¶ By mercy and truth iniquity is purged, and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

Durch Güte und Treue wird Missetat versöhnt, und durch die Furcht des HERRN meidet man das Böse.

7 ¶ When a man’s ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

Wenn jemands Wege dem HERRN wohl gefallen, so macht er auch seine Feinde mit ihm zufrieden.

8 ¶ Better is a little with righteousness than a great number of fruits with injustice.

Es ist besser ein wenig mit Gerechtigkeit denn viel Einkommen mit Unrecht.

9 ¶ The heart of man devises his way, but the LORD directs his steps.

Des Menschen Herz erdenkt sich seinen Weg; aber der HERR allein gibt, daß er fortgehe.

10 ¶ A divine sentence is in the lips of the king; his mouth does not transgress in judgment.

Weissagung ist in dem Munde des Königs; sein Mund fehlt nicht im Gericht.

11 ¶ A just weight and balance are the LORD’s; all the weights of the bag are his work.

Rechte Waage und Gewicht ist vom HERRN; und alle Pfunde im Sack sind seine Werke.

12 ¶ It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness, for the throne is to be established with righteousness.

Den Königen ist Unrecht tun ein Greuel; denn durch Gerechtigkeit wird der Thron befestigt.

13 ¶ Righteous lips are the delight of kings, and they love him that speaks that which is right.

Recht raten gefällt den Königen; und wer aufrichtig redet, wird geliebt.

14 ¶ The wrath of the king is as a messenger of death, but the wise man will avoid it.

Des Königs Grimm ist ein Bote des Todes; aber ein weiser Mann wird ihn versöhnen.

15 I n the light of the king’s countenance is life, and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.

Wenn des Königs Angesicht freundlich ist, das ist Leben, und seine Gnade ist wie ein Spätregen.

16 ¶ How much better is it to acquire wisdom than gold! and to acquire understanding is worth more than silver!

Nimm an die Weisheit, denn sie ist besser als Gold; und Verstand haben ist edler als Silber.

17 ¶ The highway of the upright is to separate himself from evil; he that keeps his way preserves his soul.

Der Frommen Weg meidet das Arge; und wer seinen Weg bewahrt, der erhält sein Leben.

18 ¶ Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Wer zu Grunde gehen soll, der wird zuvor stolz; und Hochmut kommt vor dem Fall.

19 ¶ It is better to humble your spirit with the lowly than to divide the spoil with the proud.

Es ist besser niedrigen Gemüts sein mit den Elenden, denn Raub austeilen mit den Hoffärtigen.

20 ¶ He who has understanding in the word shall find good, and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD.

Wer eine Sache klüglich führt, der findet Glück; und wohl dem, der sich auf den HERRN verläßt!

21 ¶ The wise in heart is called a man of understanding; and the sweetness of the lips shall increase doctrine.

Ein Verständiger wird gerühmt für einen weisen Mann, und liebliche Reden lehren wohl.

22 ¶ Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that has it, but the instruction of fools is folly.

Klugheit ist wie ein Brunnen des Lebens dem, der sie hat; aber die Zucht der Narren ist Narrheit.

23 ¶ The heart of the wise causes his mouth to be prudent, and with his lips he shall increase doctrine.

Ein weises Herz redet klug und lehrt wohl.

24 ¶ Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and medicine to the bones.

Die Reden des Freundlichen sind Honigseim, trösten die Seele und erfrischen die Gebeine.

25 ¶ There is a way that seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Manchem gefällt ein Weg wohl; aber zuletzt bringt er ihn zum Tode.

26 ¶ The soul of him that labours, labours for himself; for his mouth craves it of him.

Mancher kommt zu großem Unglück durch sein eigen Maul.

27 ¶ The man of Belial digs in search of evil, and in his lips there is as a burning fire.

Ein loser Mensch gräbt nach Unglück, und in seinem Maul brennt Feuer.

28 T he perverse man sows strife, and the tale bearer separates princes.

Ein verkehrter Mensch richtet Hader an, und ein Verleumder macht Freunde uneins.

29 ¶ The evil man flatters his neighbour and leads him into the way that is not good.

Ein Frevler lockt seinen Nächsten und führt ihn auf keinen guten Weg.

30 H e shuts his eyes to devise perverse things; moving his lips he brings evil to pass.

Wer mit den Augen winkt, denkt nichts Gutes; und wer mit den Lippen andeutet, vollbringt Böses.

31 ¶ Old age is a crown of glory if it is found in the way of righteousness.

Graue Haare sind eine Krone der Ehren, die auf dem Wege der Gerechtigkeit gefunden wird.

32 ¶ He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he that rules his spirit than he that takes a city.

Ein Geduldiger ist besser denn ein Starker, und der seines Mutes Herr ist, denn der Städte gewinnt.

33 ¶ The lot is cast into the lap, but the judgment thereof is of the LORD.

Das Los wird geworfen in den Schoß; aber es fällt, wie der HERR will.
