1 ¶ And Elihu added and said,

Elihu redet weiter und sprach:

2 W ait for me a little, and I will teach thee; for I yet speak on God’s behalf.

Harre mir noch ein wenig, ich will dir's zeigen; denn ich habe noch von Gottes wegen etwas zu sagen.

3 I will take my knowledge from afar and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.

Ich will mein Wissen weither holen und beweisen, daß mein Schöpfer recht habe.

4 F or truly my words are not lies; for I share perfect knowledge with thee.

Meine Reden sollen ohne Zweifel nicht falsch sein; mein Verstand soll ohne Tadel vor dir sein.

5 ¶ Behold, God is mighty and does not despise; he is mighty in virtue of heart.

Siehe, Gott ist mächtig, und verachtet doch niemand; er ist mächtig von Kraft des Herzens.

6 H e shall not give life to the wicked; but to the poor he shall give their right.

Den Gottlosen erhält er nicht, sondern hilft dem Elenden zum Recht.

7 H e shall not withdraw his eyes from the righteous; but with kings he shall place them on the throne for ever, and they shall be exalted.

Er wendet seine Augen nicht von dem Gerechten; sondern mit Königen auf dem Thron läßt er sie sitzen immerdar, daß sie hoch bleiben.

8 A nd if they were bound in fetters and captive in cords of affliction,

Und wenn sie gefangen blieben in Stöcken und elend gebunden mit Stricken,

9 t hen he shall show them their work and that their rebellions prevailed.

so verkündigt er ihnen, was sie getan haben, und ihre Untugenden, daß sie sich überhoben,

10 H e opens their ear to instruction and commands that they turn from iniquity.

und öffnet ihnen das Ohr zur Zucht und sagt ihnen, daß sie sich von dem Unrechten bekehren sollen.

11 I f they hearken and serve him, they shall spend their days in goodness and their years in delight.

Gehorchen sie und dienen ihm, so werden sie bei guten Tagen alt werden und mit Lust leben.

12 B ut if they do not hearken, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.

Gehorchen sie nicht, so werden sie ins Schwert fallen und vergehen in Unverstand.

13 B ut the hypocrites in heart shall irritate him more; they shall not cry out when he binds them.

Die Heuchler werden voll Zorns; sie schreien nicht, wenn er sie gebunden hat.

14 T heir soul shall die in youth, and their life is among the male pagan cult prostitutes.

So wird ihre Seele in der Jugend sterben und ihr Leben unter den Hurern.

15 ¶ He shall deliver the poor from his poverty, and in affliction shall open their ears.

Aber den Elenden wird er in seinem Elend erretten und dem Armen das Ohr öffnen in der Trübsal.

16 L ikewise, he would have removed thee out of the mouth of anguish into a broad place where there is no distress and should have set thy table full of fatness.

Und auch dich lockt er aus dem Rachen der Angst in weiten Raum, da keine Bedrängnis mehr ist; und an deinem Tische, voll des Guten, wirst du Ruhe haben.

17 B ut thou hast fulfilled the judgment of the wicked, against the judgment and the justice that sustain everything.

Du aber machst die Sache der Gottlosen gut, daß ihre Sache und ihr Recht erhalten wird.

18 T herefore it is to be feared that he take thee away with a stroke, which cannot be avoided even with a great ransom.

Siehe zu, daß nicht vielleicht Zorn dich verlocke zum Hohn, oder die Größe des Lösegelds dich verleite.

19 W ill he esteem thy riches? No, not gold, nor all the forces of strength.

Meinst du, daß er deine Gewalt achte oder Gold oder irgend eine Stärke oder Vermögen?

20 D o not desire the night, when he cuts people off in their place.

Du darfst der Nacht nicht begehren, welche Völker wegnimmt von ihrer Stätte.

21 T ake heed, do not regard iniquity, to choose it rather than poverty.

Hüte dich und kehre dich nicht zum Unrecht, wie du denn vor Elend angefangen hast.

22 B ehold, God is exalted by his power; what teacher is like him?

Siehe Gott ist zu hoch in seiner Kraft; wo ist ein Lehrer, wie er ist?

23 W ho has prescribed his way unto him? Or who shall say unto him, Thou hast wrought iniquity?

Wer will ihm weisen seinen Weg, und wer will zu ihm sagen: "Du tust Unrecht?"

24 ¶ Remember to magnify his work, which men behold.

Gedenke daß du sein Werk erhebest, davon die Leute singen.

25 E very man may see it; man may behold it afar off.

Denn alle Menschen sehen es; die Leute schauen's von ferne.

26 B ehold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.

Siehe Gott ist groß und unbekannt; seiner Jahre Zahl kann niemand erforschen.

27 F or he detains the drops of water; when the rain pours down rain out of its vapour,

Er macht das Wasser zu kleinen Tropfen und treibt seine Wolken zusammen zum Regen,

28 w hich the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly.

daß die Wolken fließen und triefen sehr auf die Menschen.

29 S hall you understand the spreadings of the clouds or the noise of his tent?

Wenn er sich vornimmt die Wolken auszubreiten wie sein hoch Gezelt,

30 B ehold, he spreads his light upon it and covers the roots of the sea.

siehe, so breitet er aus sein Licht über dieselben und bedeckt alle Enden des Meeres.

31 F or by them he judges the peoples; he gives food to the multitude.

Denn damit schreckt er die Leute und gibt doch Speise die Fülle.

32 W ith the clouds he covers the light and commands them to come against the light.

Er deckt den Blitz wie mit Händen und heißt ihn doch wieder kommen.

33 T he one gives news of the other; the one acquires wrath against the one that comes.

Davon zeugt sein Geselle, des Donners Zorn in den Wolken.
