1 ¶ My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.

»Hijo mío, guarda mis razones y atesora para ti mis mandamientos.

2 K eep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

Guarda mis mandamientos y vivirás, y guarda mi enseñanza como a la niña de tus ojos.

3 B ind them upon thy fingers; write them upon the tablet of thine heart.

Átalos a tus dedos, escríbelos en la tabla de tu corazón.

4 S ay unto wisdom, Thou art my sister, and call understanding thy kinswoman:

Di a la sabiduría: “Tú eres mi hermana”, y llama parienta a la inteligencia,

5 T hat they may keep thee from the woman belonging to someone else, from the stranger who flatters with her words.

para que te guarden de la mujer ajena, de la extraña que suaviza sus palabras.

6 ¶ For at the window of my house I looked through my casement

»Miraba yo por la ventana de mi casa, a través de mi celosía,

7 a nd beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

cuando vi entre los ingenuos, observé entre los jóvenes, a un joven falto de sensatez.

8 p assing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,

Pasaba él por la calle, junto a la esquina, e iba camino de la casa de ella,

9 i n the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night;

al atardecer, cuando ya oscurecía y caía la oscuridad y las tinieblas de la noche.

10 a nd, behold, a woman met him with the attire of a harlot, and subtil of heart.

»En esto, una mujer le sale al encuentro, con atavío de ramera y astucia en el corazón.

11 ( She is loud and stubborn; her feet do not abide in her house:

Alborotadora y pendenciera, sus pies no pueden estar en casa.

12 N ow without, now in the streets, she lies in wait at every corner.)

Unas veces está en la calle, otras veces en las plazas, al acecho en todas las esquinas.

13 S o she caught him and kissed him and with an impudent face said unto him,

Se asió de él y lo besó. Con semblante descarado le dijo:

14 I had promised sacrifices of peace; today I have payed my vows.

“Sacrificios de paz había prometido, y hoy he cumplido mis votos;

15 T herefore I came forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.

por eso he salido a encontrarte, buscando con ansia tu rostro, y te he hallado.

16 I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.

He adornado mi cama con colchas recamadas con lino de Egipto;

17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

he perfumado mi lecho con mirra, áloes y canela.

18 C ome, let us take our fill of love until the morning; let us solace ourselves with loves.

Ven, embriaguémonos de amor hasta la mañana; disfrutemos de amores.

19 F or the husband is not at home; he is gone a long journey:

Porque mi marido no está en casa; se ha ido a un largo viaje.

20 H e has taken a bag of money with him and will come home at the appointed feast day.

La bolsa del dinero se llevó en la mano, y no volverá a su casa hasta la luna llena.”

21 W ith her much fair speech she caused him to yield; with the flattering of her lips she persuaded him.

»Así lo rindió, con la suavidad de sus muchas palabras, y lo sedujo con la zalamería de sus labios.

22 H e went after her straightway, as an ox goes to the slaughter or as a fool to the correction of the stocks,

Al punto se marchó tras ella, como va el buey al degolladero o como va el necio a prisión para ser castigado;

23 u ntil the arrow pierces through his liver. He is as a bird struggling in the snare and not knowing that it is against his own life.

como el ave que se arroja contra la red, sin saber que va a perder la vida hasta que la saeta traspasa su corazón.

24 ¶ Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye sons, and attend to the words of my mouth.

»Ahora pues, hijos, escuchadme; estad atentos a las razones de mi boca:

25 L et not thine heart decline to her ways; do not go astray in her paths.

No se desvíe tu corazón a los caminos de ella; no yerres en sus veredas,

26 F or she has caused many to fall down dead; yea, all the strong men have been slain by her.

porque a muchos ha hecho caer heridos, y aun los más fuertes han sido muertos por ella.

27 H er house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.

Camino del seol es su casa, que conduce a las cámaras de la muerte.»
