1 ¶ And the LORD appeared unto him among the terebinth trees of Mamre; and he was sitting in the door of his tent in the heat of the day;

Jehová se le apareció a Abraham en el encinar de Mamre, estando él sentado a la puerta de su tienda, a la hora de más calor.

2 a nd he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, three men stood by him; and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door and bowed himself toward the ground

Alzó los ojos y vio a tres varones que estaban junto a él. Al verlos salió corriendo de la puerta de su tienda a recibirlos, se postró en tierra

3 a nd said, My Lord, if now I have found grace in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy slave.

y dijo: —Señor, si he hallado gracia en tus ojos, te ruego que no pases de largo junto a tu siervo.

4 L et a little water, I pray you, be brought and wash your feet and rest yourselves under a tree;

Haré traer ahora un poco de agua para que lavéis vuestros pies, y luego os recostaréis debajo de un árbol.

5 a nd I will bring a morsel of bread and comfort your hearts; after that ye shall pass on because for this ye are come to your slave. And they said, So do as thou hast said.

Traeré también un bocado de pan para que repongáis vuestras fuerzas antes de seguir, pues por eso habéis pasado cerca de vuestro siervo. Ellos dijeron: —Haz como has dicho.

6 A nd Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make bread baked under the ashes.

Entonces Abraham fue de prisa a la tienda donde estaba Sara, y le dijo: —Toma enseguida tres medidas de flor de harina, amásala y haz panes cocidos debajo del rescoldo.

7 A nd Abraham ran unto the herd and brought a calf tender and good and gave it unto a young man; and he hastened to dress it.

Corrió luego Abraham a donde estaban las vacas, tomó un becerro tierno y bueno, lo dio al criado y éste se dio prisa a prepararlo.

8 A nd he took butter and milk and the calf which he had dressed and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they ate.

Después tomó mantequilla y leche, y el becerro que había preparado, y lo puso delante de ellos. Él se quedó con ellos debajo del árbol, y comieron.

9 ¶ And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Here, in the tent.

Después le preguntaron: —¿Dónde está Sara, tu mujer? Él respondió: —Aquí, en la tienda.

10 T hen he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, behold, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.

Entonces dijo: —De cierto volveré a ti el próximo año, y para entonces Sara, tu mujer, tendrá un hijo. Sara escuchaba a la puerta de la tienda, que estaba detrás de él.

11 N ow Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age, and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.

Abraham y Sara eran viejos, de edad avanzada, y a Sara ya le había cesado el período de las mujeres.

12 T herefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?

Y se rió Sara para sus adentros, pensando: «¿Después que he envejecido tendré deleite, siendo también mi señor ya viejo?»

13 T hen the LORD said unto Abraham, Why did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child when I am old?

Entonces Jehová dijo a Abraham: —¿Por qué se ha reído Sara? Pues dice: “¿Será cierto que he de dar a luz siendo ya vieja?”

14 I s any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

¿Acaso hay alguna cosa difícil para Dios? Al tiempo señalado volveré a ti, y para entonces Sara tendrá un hijo.

15 T hen Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, No, but thou didst laugh.

Entonces Sara tuvo miedo y negó, diciendo: —No me reí. Y él dijo: —No es así, sino que te has reído. Abraham intercede por Sodoma

16 ¶ And the men rose up from there and looked toward Sodom; and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way.

Los varones se levantaron de allí y miraron hacia Sodoma, y Abraham iba con ellos, acompañándolos.

17 A nd the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do,

Jehová dijo: «¿Encubriré yo a Abraham lo que voy a hacer,

18 s eeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation and that all the Gentiles of the earth shall be blessed in him?

habiendo de ser Abraham una nación grande y fuerte y habiendo de ser benditas en él todas las naciones de la tierra?,

19 F or I know him, that he will command his sons and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and judgment, that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he has spoken of him.

pues yo sé que mandará a sus hijos, y a su casa después de sí, que guarden el camino de Jehová haciendo justicia y juicio, para que haga venir Jehová sobre Abraham lo que ha hablado acerca de él.»

20 A nd the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great and because their sin is very grievous;

Entonces Jehová le dijo: —Por cuanto el clamor contra Sodoma y Gomorra aumenta más y más y su pecado se ha agravado en extremo,

21 I will go down now and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.

descenderé ahora y veré si han consumado su obra según el clamor que ha llegado hasta mí; y si no, lo sabré.

22 A nd the men turned their faces from there and went toward Sodom; but Abraham stood yet before the LORD.

Se apartaron de allí los varones y fueron hacia Sodoma; pero Abraham permaneció delante de Jehová.

23 ¶ And Abraham drew near and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?

Se acercó Abraham y le dijo: —¿Destruirás también al justo con el impío?

24 P eradventure there are fifty righteous within the city; wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are in it?

Quizá haya cincuenta justos dentro de la ciudad: ¿destruirás y no perdonarás a aquel lugar por amor a los cincuenta justos que estén dentro de él?

25 T hat be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked and that the righteous should be treated as the wicked that are far from thee. Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

Lejos de ti el hacerlo así, que hagas morir al justo con el impío y que el justo sea tratado como el impío. ¡Nunca tal hagas! El Juez de toda la tierra, ¿no ha de hacer lo que es justo?

26 A nd the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.

Entonces respondió Jehová: —Si encuentro en Sodoma cincuenta justos dentro de la ciudad, perdonaré a todo este lugar por amor a ellos.

27 A nd Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, who am but dust and ashes;

Abraham replicó y dijo: —Te ruego, mi Señor, que me escuches, aunque soy polvo y ceniza.

28 p eradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty-five, I will not destroy it.

Quizá falten de cincuenta justos cinco: ¿destruirás por aquellos cinco toda la ciudad? Jehová respondió: —No la destruiré, si encuentro allí cuarenta y cinco.

29 A nd he spoke unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty’s sake.

Volvió a hablarle Abraham: —Quizá se encuentren allí cuarenta. —No lo haré, por amor a los cuarenta —dijo Jehová.

30 A nd he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord now be angry if I shall speak; peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it if I find thirty there.

Abraham volvió a suplicar: —No se enoje ahora mi Señor si le digo: quizá se encuentren allí treinta. —No lo haré si encuentro allí treinta —respondió Jehová.

31 A nd he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord; peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty’s sake.

Abraham insistió: —Soy muy atrevido al hablar así a mi Señor, pero quizá se encuentren allí veinte. —No la destruiré —respondió—, por amor a los veinte.

32 A nd he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once; peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.

Volvió Abraham a decir: —No se enoje ahora mi Señor; sólo hablaré esta vez: quizá se encuentren allí diez. —No la destruiré —respondió Jehová—, por amor a los diez.

33 A nd the LORD went away as soon as he had left communing with Abraham; and Abraham returned unto his place.

Luego que acabó de hablar a Abraham, Jehová se fue y Abraham volvió a su lugar.
