1 ¶ The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all that were carried away captive of Jerusalem and Judah, which were carried away captive unto Babylon.

Palabra de Jehová que vino a Jeremías, después que Nabuzaradán, capitán de la guardia, lo envió desde Ramá, cuando lo encontró atado con cadenas entre todos los cautivos de Jerusalén y de Judá que iban deportados a Babilonia.

2 A nd the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said unto him, The LORD thy God has pronounced this evil upon this place.

Tomó, pues, el capitán de la guardia a Jeremías y le dijo: «Jehová, tu Dios, anunció este mal contra este lugar;

3 N ow the LORD has brought it and done according as he had said; because ye have sinned against the LORD, and did not listen to his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

y lo ha traído y hecho Jehová según lo había dicho, porque pecasteis contra Jehová y no escuchasteis su voz. Por eso os ha venido esto.

4 A nd now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand. If it seems good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee: but if it seems ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land is before thee; where it seems good and convenient for thee to go, go there.

Y ahora, he aquí que en este día yo te he librado de las cadenas que tenías en tus manos. Si te parece bien venir conmigo a Babilonia, ven, y yo velaré por ti; pero si no te parece bien venir conmigo a Babilonia, puedes quedarte. Mira, toda la tierra está delante de ti: ve a donde mejor y más cómodo te parezca ir.

5 N ow while he had not yet replied that he would go back, the captain said, Go back also to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has made governor over the cities of Judah and dwell with him among the people, or go wherever it seems convenient unto thee to go. So the captain of the guard gave him victuals and a reward and sent him forth.

Si prefieres quedarte, vuélvete a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam hijo de Safán, a quien el rey de Babilonia ha puesto sobre todas las ciudades de Judá, y vive con él en medio del pueblo. O ve a donde te parezca más cómodo ir.» Le dio el capitán de la guardia provisiones y un presente, y lo despidió.

6 T hen Jeremiah came unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah and dwelt with him among the people that were left in the land.

Se fue entonces Jeremías a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam, a Mizpa, y habitó con él en medio del pueblo que había quedado en la tierra.

7 ¶ And all the princes of the army which were in the field, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor over the land and had committed unto him the men and the women and the children and the poor of the land, those that were not carried away captive to Babylon;

Los jefes del ejército que estaban por el campo junto con sus hombres, cuando oyeron que el rey de Babilonia había puesto a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam para gobernar la tierra, y que le había encomendado los hombres, las mujeres y los niños, y los pobres de la tierra que no fueron deportados a Babilonia,

8 t hen they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men.

se presentaron a Gedalías, en Mizpa. Eran: Ismael hijo de Netanías, Johanán y Jonatán hijos de Carea, Seraías hijo de Tanhumet, los hijos de Efai, el netofatita, y Jezanías, hijo de un maacateo; todos ellos junto con sus hombres.

9 A nd Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan swore unto them and to their men, saying, Fear not to serve the Chaldeans; dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.

Y Gedalías hijo de Ahicam hijo de Safán les juró a ellos y a sus hombres, diciendo: «No tengáis temor de servir a los caldeos. Habitad en la tierra, servid al rey de Babilonia y os irá bien.

10 A s for me, behold, I dwell in Mizpah to serve the Chaldeans, which will come unto us; but ye, gather ye the wine and the bread and the oil and put them in your vessels and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.

Y he aquí que yo habito en Mizpa, para tratar con los caldeos que vendrán a nosotros. Pero vosotros tomad el vino, los frutos del verano y el aceite, ponedlos en vuestros almacenes y quedaos en vuestras ciudades que habéis tomado.»

11 L ikewise when all the Jews that were in Moab and among the Ammonites and in Edom and that were in all the lands heard how the king of Babylon had left a remnant in Judah and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan,

Asimismo todos los judíos que estaban en Moab, entre los hijos de Amón, en Edom, y los que estaban en todas las tierras, cuando oyeron decir que el rey de Babilonia había dejado a algunos en Judá y que había puesto sobre ellos a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam hijo de Safán,

12 a ll these Jews returned out of all places where they were driven and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah in Mizpah, and gathered wine and much fruit.

todos estos judíos regresaron entonces de todos los lugares adonde habían sido echados, y vinieron a tierra de Judá, junto a Gedalías, en Mizpa. Y recogieron vino y abundantes frutos. Conspiración de Ismael contra Gedalías

13 M oreover Johanan the son of Kareah and all the princes of the armies that were in the fields came to Gedaliah to Mizpah

Johanán hijo de Carea y todos los capitanes de la gente de guerra que estaban en el campo vinieron a Gedalías, en Mizpa,

14 a nd said unto him, Dost thou certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay thee? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam did not believe them.

y le dijeron: «¿No sabes que Baalis, rey de los hijos de Amón, ha enviado a Ismael hijo de Netanías para matarte?» Pero Gedalías hijo de Ahicam no los creyó.

15 T hen Johanan the son of Kareah spoke to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, I will go now, and I will slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it; why should he slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered unto thee should be scattered and the remnant in Judah perish?

Entonces Johanán hijo de Carea habló a Gedalías en secreto, en Mizpa, diciendo: «Yo iré ahora y mataré a Ismael hijo de Netanías, y nadie lo sabrá. ¿Por qué te ha de matar, de modo que todos los judíos que se te han reunido se dispersen y perezca el resto de Judá?»

16 B ut Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said unto Johanan the son of Kareah, Thou shalt not do this thing, for thou dost speak falsely of Ishmael.

Pero Gedalías hijo de Ahicam dijo a Johanán hijo de Carea: «No hagas eso, porque es falso lo que dices de Ismael.»
