1 ¶ Then Elijah, the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

Entonces Elías, el tisbita, que era uno de los habitantes de Galaad, dijo a Acab: «¡Vive Jehová, Dios de Israel, en cuya presencia estoy, que no habrá lluvia ni rocío en estos años, hasta que mi boca lo diga!»

2 A nd the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

Llegó a él una palabra de Jehová, que decía:

3 L eave this place and turn to the east and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan,

«Apártate de aquí, vuelve al oriente y escóndete en el arroyo Querit, que está frente al Jordán.

4 a nd thou shalt drink of the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

Beberás del arroyo; yo he mandado a los cuervos que te den allí de comer.»

5 S o he went and did according unto the word of the LORD; for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.

Él partió e hizo conforme a la palabra de Jehová, pues se fue y vivió junto al arroyo Querit, que está frente al Jordán.

6 A nd the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning and bread and flesh in the evening, and he drank from the brook.

Los cuervos le traían pan y carne por la mañana y por la tarde, y bebía del arroyo.

7 A nd it came to pass after a while that the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.

Pasados algunos días, se secó el arroyo, porque no había llovido sobre la tierra. Elías y la viuda de Sarepta

8 ¶ And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

Luego llegó a Elías una palabra de Jehová, que decía:

9 A rise, go to Zarephath of Zidon, and thou shalt dwell there; behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

«Levántate, vete a Sarepta de Sidón y vive allí; ahí le he dado orden a una mujer viuda que te sustente.»

10 S o he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks; and he called to her and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

Entonces él se levantó y se fue a Sarepta. Cuando llegó a la puerta de la ciudad, había allí una mujer viuda que estaba recogiendo leña. Elías la llamó y le dijo: —Te ruego que me traigas un poco de agua en un vaso para que beba.

11 A nd as she was going to fetch it, he called to her again and said, Bring me also, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thy hand.

Cuando ella iba a traérsela, él la volvió a llamar y le dijo: —Te ruego que me traigas también un bocado de pan en tus manos.

12 A nd she said, As the LORD thy God lives, I have no baked bread, but only a handful of meal in a pitcher and a little oil in a cruse; and now I was gathering two sticks that I may go in and prepare it for me and my son, that we may eat it and die.

Ella respondió: —¡Vive Jehová, tu Dios, que no tengo pan cocido!; solamente tengo un puñado de harina en la tinaja y un poco de aceite en una vasija. Ahora recogía dos leños para entrar y prepararlo para mí y para mi hijo. Lo comeremos y luego moriremos.

13 A nd Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said; but first make me a little cake of bread baked under the ashes and bring it unto me, and afterwards thou shalt make for thee and for thy son.

Elías le dijo: —No tengas temor: ve y haz como has dicho; pero hazme con ello primero una pequeña torta cocida debajo de la ceniza, y tráemela. Después la harás para ti y para tu hijo.

14 F or thus hath said the LORD God of Israel, The pitcher of meal shall not be consumed, neither shall the cruse of oil fail until that day when the LORD shall send rain upon the earth.

Porque Jehová, Dios de Israel, ha dicho así: “La harina de la tinaja no escaseará, ni el aceite de la vasija disminuirá, hasta el día en que Jehová haga llover sobre la faz de la tierra.”

15 A nd she went and did as Elijah told her; and he and she and her house ate for many days.

La viuda fue e hizo como le había dicho Elías. Y comieron él, ella y su casa, durante muchos días.

16 A nd the pitcher of meal was not consumed, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD which he spoke by Elijah.

No escaseó la harina de la tinaja, ni el aceite de la vasija menguó, conforme a la palabra que Jehová había dicho por medio de Elías.

17 ¶ And it came to pass after these things that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so severe that there was no breath left in him.

Después de estas cosas aconteció que cayó enfermo el hijo de la dueña de la casa. La enfermedad fue tan grave que se quedó sin aliento.

18 A nd she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? Art thou come unto me to call my iniquity to remembrance and to cause my son to die?

Entonces dijo ella a Elías: —¿Qué tengo que ver yo contigo, varón de Dios? ¿Has venido aquí a recordarme mis pecados y a hacer morir a mi hijo?

19 A nd he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom and carried him up into the chamber where he abode and laid him upon his own bed.

—Dame acá tu hijo —le dijo él. Lo tomó entonces Elías de su regazo, lo llevó al aposento donde él vivía y lo puso sobre su cama.

20 A nd he cried unto the LORD and said, O LORD my God, hast thou even brought evil upon the widow, with whom I sojourn, by killing her son?

Luego clamó a Jehová diciendo: «Jehová, Dios mío, ¿también a la viuda en cuya casa estoy hospedado vas a afligir, haciendo morir su hijo?»

21 A nd he stretched himself upon the child three times and cried unto the LORD and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again.

Se tendió sobre el niño tres veces y clamó a Jehová: «Jehová, Dios mío, te ruego que hagas volver el alma a este niño.»

22 A nd the LORD heard the voice of Elijah, and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

Jehová oyó la voz de Elías, el alma volvió al niño y éste revivió.

23 A nd Elijah took the child and brought him down out of the chamber into the house and delivered him unto his mother, and Elijah said, See, thy son lives.

Tomó luego Elías al niño, lo trajo del aposento a la casa, lo entregó a su madre y le dijo: —Mira, tu hijo vive.

24 T hen the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God and that the word of the LORD is true in thy mouth.

Entonces la mujer dijo a Elías: —Ahora reconozco que tú eres un varón de Dios y que la palabra de Jehová es verdad en tu boca.
