1 ¶ And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first that he went through the grain fields and his disciples plucked the ears of grain and ate, rubbing them in their hands.

Aconteció que un sábado, pasando Jesús por los sembrados, sus discípulos arrancaban espigas y, restregándolas con las manos, comían.

2 A nd certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days?

Algunos de los fariseos les dijeron: —¿Por qué hacéis lo que no es lícito hacer en sábado?

3 A nd Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did, when he and those that were with him were hungry,

Respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: —¿Ni aun esto habéis leído, lo que hizo David cuando él y los que con él estaban tuvieron hambre?,

4 h ow he went into the house of God and did take and eat the showbread and gave also to those that were with him, which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone?

¿como entró en la casa de Dios y tomó los panes de la proposición, de los cuales no es lícito comer sino sólo a los sacerdotes, y comió, y dio también a los que estaban con él?

5 A nd he said unto them, The Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath.

Y les decía: —El Hijo del hombre es Señor aun del sábado. El hombre de la mano seca

6 A nd it came to pass also on another sabbath that he entered into the synagogue and taught, and a man was there whose right hand was withered.

Aconteció también en otro sábado que él entró en la sinagoga y enseñaba; y estaba allí un hombre que tenía seca la mano derecha.

7 A nd the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day, that they might find an accusation against him.

Y lo acechaban los escribas y los fariseos para ver si en sábado lo sanaría, a fin de hallar de qué acusarlo.

8 B ut he knew their thoughts and said to the man who had the withered hand, Rise up and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.

Pero él, que conocía sus pensamientos, dijo al hombre que tenía la mano seca: —Levántate y ponte en medio. Él, levantándose, se quedó en pie.

9 T hen said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good or to do evil? to save a person or to destroy them?

Entonces Jesús les dijo: —Os preguntaré una cosa: En sábado, ¿es lícito hacer bien o hacer mal?, ¿salvar la vida o quitarla?

10 A nd looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so, and his hand was restored whole as the other.

Y, mirándolos a todos alrededor, dijo al hombre: —Extiende tu mano. Él lo hizo y su mano fue restaurada.

11 A nd they were filled with madness and talked one with another about what they might do to Jesus.

Ellos se llenaron de furor y hablaban entre sí qué podrían hacer contra Jesús. Elección de los doce apóstoles

12 ¶ And it came to pass in those days that he went out into the mountain to pray and continued all night in prayer to God.

En aquellos días él fue al monte a orar, y pasó la noche orando a Dios.

13 A nd when it was day, he called unto him his disciples; and of them he chose twelve, whom he also named apostles:

Cuando llegó el día, llamó a sus discípulos y escogió a doce de ellos, a los cuales también llamó apóstoles:

14 S imon (whom he also named Peter) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,

Simón, a quien también llamó Pedro, su hermano Andrés, Jacobo y Juan, Felipe y Bartolomé,

15 M atthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon called Zelotes

Mateo, Tomás, Jacobo, hijo de Alfeo, Simón llamado Zelote,

16 a nd Judas the brother of James and Judas Iscariot, who also was the traitor.

Judas hermano de Jacobo, y Judas Iscariote, que llegó a ser el traidor. Jesús ministra a una multitud

17 A nd he came down with them and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases;

Descendió con ellos y se detuvo en un lugar llano, en compañía de sus discípulos y de una gran multitud de gente de toda Judea, de Jerusalén y de la costa de Tiro y de Sidón que había venido para oírlo y para ser sanados de sus enfermedades;

18 a nd those that were tormented with unclean spirits were healed.

también los que habían sido atormentados por espíritus impuros eran sanados.

19 A nd the whole multitude sought to touch him, for there went virtue out of him and healed them all.

Toda la gente procuraba tocarlo, porque poder salía de él y sanaba a todos. Bienaventuranzas y ayes

20 ¶ And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples and said, Blessed are the poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.

Alzando los ojos hacia sus discípulos, decía: «Bienaventurados vosotros los pobres, porque vuestro es el reino de Dios.

21 B lessed are those that hunger now, for ye shall be filled. Blessed are those that weep now, for ye shall laugh.

Bienaventurados los que ahora tenéis hambre, porque seréis saciados. Bienaventurados los que ahora lloráis, porque reiréis.

22 B lessed are ye when men shall hate you and when they shall separate you from their company and shall reproach you and cast out your name as evil for the sake of the Son of man.

Bienaventurados seréis cuando los hombres os odien, os aparten de sí, os insulten y desechen vuestro nombre como malo por causa del Hijo del hombre.

23 R ejoice ye in that day and leap for joy; for, behold, your reward is great in heaven, for their fathers treated the prophets in the same manner.

»Gozaos en aquel día y alegraos, porque vuestra recompensa es grande en los cielos, porque así hacían sus padres con los profetas.

24 B ut woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.

»Pero ¡ay de vosotros, ricos!, porque ya tenéis vuestro consuelo.

25 W oe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.

»¡Ay de vosotros, los que ahora estáis saciados!, porque tendréis hambre. »¡Ay de vosotros, los que ahora reís!, porque lamentaréis y lloraréis.

26 W oe unto you when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers treat the false prophets.

»¡Ay de vosotros, cuando todos los hombres hablen bien de vosotros!, porque así hacían sus padres con los falsos profetas. El amor a los enemigos y la regla de oro

27 ¶ But I say unto you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,

»Pero a vosotros los que oís, os digo: Amad a vuestros enemigos, haced bien a los que os odian;

28 b less those that curse you, and pray for those who despitefully use you.

bendecid a los que os maldicen y orad por los que os calumnian.

29 A nd unto the one that smites thee on the one cheek offer also the other, and to the one that takes away thy cloak defend not thy coat also.

Al que te hiera en una mejilla, preséntale también la otra; y al que te quite la capa, ni aun la túnica le niegues.

30 G ive to everyone that asks of thee, and of the one that takes away thy goods ask them not to return them.

A cualquiera que te pida, dale; y al que tome lo que es tuyo, no pidas que te lo devuelva.

31 A nd as ye desire that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.

Y como queréis que hagan los hombres con vosotros, así también haced vosotros con ellos.

32 F or if ye love those who love you, what grace shall ye have? for sinners also love those that love them.

»Si amáis a los que os aman, ¿qué mérito tenéis? También los pecadores aman a los que los aman.

33 A nd if ye do good to those who do good to you, what grace shall ye have? for sinners also do even the same.

Y si hacéis bien a los que os hacen bien, ¿qué mérito tenéis? También los pecadores hacen lo mismo.

34 A nd if ye lend to those of whom ye hope to receive, what grace shall ye have? for sinners also lend to sinners to receive as much again.

Y si prestáis a aquellos de quienes esperáis recibir, ¿qué mérito tenéis?, pues también los pecadores prestan a los pecadores para recibir otro tanto.

35 B ut rather love ye your enemies and do good and lend, hoping for nothing again, and your reward shall be great; and ye shall be the sons of the Most High, for he is kind even unto the unthankful and to the evil.

Amad, pues, a vuestros enemigos, haced bien, y prestad, no esperando de ello nada; y vuestra recompensa será grande, y seréis hijos del Altísimo, porque él es benigno para con los ingratos y malos.

36 B e ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

Sed, pues, misericordiosos, como también vuestro Padre es misericordioso. El juzgar a los demás

37 ¶ Judge not, and ye shall not be judged; condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned; forgive, and ye shall be forgiven;

»No juzguéis y no seréis juzgados; no condenéis y no seréis condenados; perdonad y seréis perdonados.

38 g ive, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down and shaken together and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye measure out it shall be measured to you again.

Dad y se os dará; medida buena, apretada, remecida y rebosando darán en vuestro regazo, porque con la misma medida con que medís, os volverán a medir.»

39 A nd he spoke a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? Shall they not both fall into the pit?

Les dijo también una parábola: «¿Acaso puede un ciego guiar a otro ciego? ¿No caerán ambos en el hoyo?

40 T he disciple is not above his master, but any one that is as the master shall be perfect.

El discípulo no es superior a su maestro; pero todo el que sea perfeccionado, será como su maestro.

41 A nd why dost thou behold the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but not perceive the beam that is in thine own eye?

»¿Por qué miras la paja que está en el ojo de tu hermano y no echas de ver la viga que está en tu propio ojo?

42 O r how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself dost not behold the beam that is in thine own eye? Hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye.

¿O cómo puedes decir a tu hermano: “Hermano, déjame sacar la paja que está en tu ojo”, no mirando tú la viga que está en el tuyo? Hipócrita, saca primero la viga de tu propio ojo y entonces verás bien para sacar la paja que está en el ojo de tu hermano. Por sus frutos los conoceréis

43 F or a good tree does not bring forth corrupt fruit; neither does a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

»No es buen árbol el que da malos frutos, ni árbol malo el que da buen fruto,

44 F or every tree is known by its own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush do they gather grapes.

pues todo árbol se conoce por su fruto, ya que no se cosechan higos de los espinos ni de las zarzas se vendimian uvas.

45 T he good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good, and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is evil, for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

El hombre bueno, del buen tesoro de su corazón saca lo bueno; y el hombre malo, del mal tesoro de su corazón saca lo malo, porque de la abundancia del corazón habla la boca. Los dos cimientos

46 A nd why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

»¿Por qué me llamáis “Señor, Señor”, y no hacéis lo que yo digo?

47 W hosoever comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you to whom he is like:

Todo aquel que viene a mí y oye mis palabras y las obedece, os indicaré a quién es semejante.

48 h e is like a man who built a house and dug deep and laid the foundation upon rock; and when the flood arose, the river beat vehemently upon that house and could not shake it, for it was founded upon rock.

Semejante es al hombre que, al edificar una casa, cavó y ahondó y puso el fundamento sobre la roca; y cuando vino una inundación, el río dio con ímpetu contra aquella casa, pero no la pudo mover porque estaba fundada sobre la roca.

49 B ut he that hears and does not do is like a man that built a house upon the earth without a foundation against which the river beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

Pero el que las oyó y no las obedeció, semejante es al hombre que edificó su casa sobre tierra, sin fundamento; contra la cual el río dio con ímpetu, y luego cayó y fue grande la ruina de aquella casa.»
