1 ¶ Now there was a certain man of Ramath of Zophim, of Mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite.

Era un bărbat din Ramatayim-Ţofim, din ţinutul muntos al lui Efraim, numit Elkana. El era fiul lui Ieroham, fiul lui Elihu, fiul lui Tohu, fiul lui Ţuf, şi era efratit.

2 A nd he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

El avea două soţii. Numele celei dintâi era Ana, iar numele celei de-a doua era Penina. Penina avea copii, dar Ana nu avea.

3 A nd this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of the hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there.

În fiecare an, bărbatul acesta se ducea din cetatea sa la Şilo ca să se închine şi să aducă jertfe Domnului Oştirilor. Acolo slujeau ca preoţi ai Domnului cei doi fii ai lui Eli, Hofni şi Fineas.

4 A nd when the day would come, Elkanah would sacrifice, and he would give portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and her daughters.

În ziua în care Elkana aducea jertfa, el dădea câte o parte soţiei sale, Penina, şi tuturor fiilor şi fiicelor pe care le avea de la ea,

5 B ut unto Hannah he would give a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah, even though the LORD had shut up her womb.

dar Anei îi dădea o parte mai aleasă fiindcă o iubea. Domnul însă o făcuse stearpă.

6 A nd her rival provoked her to anger and sorrow because the LORD had shut up her womb.

Potrivnica ei obişnuia s-o necăjească ca s-o facă să se mânie din cauză că Domnul o făcuse stearpă.

7 A nd this would happen year by year when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she would provoke her; therefore, she would weep and not eat.

Potrivnica ei făcea lucrul acesta în fiecare an. Ori de câte ori se ducea Ana la Casa Domnului, ea o necăjea în felul acesta, iar Ana plângea şi nu mânca nimic.

8 T hen Elkanah, her husband, said to her, Hannah, why dost thou weep? And why dost thou not eat? And why is thy heart grieved? Am I not better to thee than ten sons?

Atunci Elkana, bărbatul ei, îi spunea: „Ana, de ce plângi şi nu mănânci şi de ce îţi este mâhnită inima? Oare nu preţuiesc eu pentru tine mai mult decât zece fii?“

9 ¶ So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.

Odată, după ce a mâncat şi a băut la Şilo, Ana s-a ridicat de la locul ei. Preotul Eli şedea pe scaunul său, lângă uşorul porţii Templului Domnului.

10 A nd she was in bitterness of soul and prayed unto the LORD and wept sore;

Ea a început să se roage Domnului cu sufletul amărât şi plângând cu amar.

11 a nd she vowed a vow and said, O LORD of the hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thy handmaid and remember me and not forget thy handmaid but wilt give unto thy handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.

A făcut următorul jurământ, spunând: „ Doamne al Oştirilor, dacă, într-adevăr, vei privi la suferinţa slujitoarei Tale, dacă Îţi vei aduce aminte de mine şi n-o vei uita pe slujitoarea Ta şi dacă-i vei da slujitoarei Tale un fiu, atunci îl voi dărui Domnului pentru toate zilele vieţii lui, iar briciul nu va trece peste capul lui.“

12 A nd it came to pass as she continued praying before the LORD that Eli was observing her mouth.

Fiindcă ea stătea mult în rugăciune înaintea Domnului, Eli se uita cu atenţie la gura ei.

13 N ow Hannah spoke in her heart and only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard; therefore, Eli thought she was drunk.

Ana vorbea în inima ei şi numai buzele i se mişcau, fără să i se audă vocea. Atunci Eli, crezând că este beată,

14 A nd Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? Put away thy wine from thee.

i-a vorbit astfel: – Femeie, cât timp vei mai fi beată? Lasă-te de vin!

15 A nd Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit; I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink but have poured out my soul before the LORD.

Ana i-a răspuns: – Stăpânul meu, nu sunt beată, ci sunt o femeie cu duhul întristat. N-am băut nici vin şi nici băutură tare, ci îmi vărsam sufletul înaintea Domnului.

16 D o not count thy handmaid for a daughter of Belial, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have waited until now to speak.

Să nu o consideri pe slujitoarea ta drept o femeie stricată, căci din prea multa mea durere şi supărare am vorbit până acum.

17 T hen Eli answered and said, Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.

Atunci Eli i-a zis: – Mergi în pace şi Dumnezeul lui Israel să răspundă cererii pe care I-ai făcut-o.

18 A nd she said, Let thy handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and ate, and her countenance was no longer sad.

Ana i-a răspuns: – Fie ca slujitoarea ta să găsească bunăvoinţă la tine! Spunând acestea, femeia a plecat. A început să mănânce şi faţa ei n-a mai fost mâhnită.

19 ¶ And they rose up in the morning early and worshipped before the LORD and returned and came to their house to Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her.

În dimineaţa următoare s-au trezit devreme cu toţii, s-au închinat înaintea Domnului, după care s-au întors acasă, în Rama. Elkana a cunoscut-o pe soţia sa, iar Domnul Şi-a adus aminte de ea.

20 T herefore, it came to pass when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, she bore a son and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.

Astfel, după o vreme, Ana a rămas însărcinată şi a născut un băiat pe care l-a numit Samuel, căci ea spunea: „De la Domnul l-am cerut.“

21 A nd the man Elkanah and all his house went up to offer unto the LORD the accustomed sacrifice and his vow.

Elkana a plecat cu toată familia lui ca să aducă Domnului jertfa anuală şi ca să-şi împlinească jurământul.

22 B ut Hannah did not go up, for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child is weaned, and then I will bring him that he may be presented before the LORD and abide there for ever.

Ana însă nu s-a dus, ci i-a spus soţului ei: – După ce-l voi înţărca pe băiat, îl voi aduce şi-l voi înfăţişa înaintea Domnului, unde va locui pentru totdeauna.

23 A nd Elkanah, her husband, said unto her, Do what seems good unto thee; tarry until thou hast weaned him; only let the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode and gave her son suck until she weaned him.

Elkana, soţul ei, i-a răspuns: – Fă ceea ce crezi că este bine! Rămâi până îl vei înţărca. Fie numai ca Domnul să-Şi împlinească cuvântul! Femeia a rămas şi a alăptat copilul până l-a înţărcat.

24 A nd when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks and one ephah of flour and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh; and the child was young.

După ce l-a înţărcat pe băiat, l-a luat cu ea, împreună cu un taur de trei ani, o efă de făină şi un burduf cu vin şi l-a adus la Casa Domnului, în Şilo; copilul era mic.

25 A nd they slew a bullock and brought the child to Eli.

După ce au jertfit taurul, l-au adus pe băiat la Eli.

26 A nd she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul lives, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD.

Ana i-a zis lui Eli: – Oh, stăpânul meu! Viu este sufletul tău că eu sunt femeia care stătea aici, lângă tine, rugându-se Domnului.

27 F or this child I prayed, and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of him.

Pentru copilul acesta mă rugam, iar Domnul mi-a dăruit ceea ce am cerut de la El.

28 T herefore, I also have given him back to the LORD; as long as he lives he shall belong to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

De aceea îl dăruiesc Domnului. Pentru toate zilele vieţii lui, el va fi dăruit Domnului. Ei s-au închinat acolo Domnului.
