1 ¶ And it came to pass in the fourth year of King Darius that the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, even in Chisleu;

În cel de-al patrulea an al domniei împăratului Darius, Cuvântul Domnului a venit la Zaharia în ziua a patra a lunii a noua, adică luna Chislev.

2 w hen they had sent unto the house of God Sherezer and Regemmelech and their men, to pray before the LORD

Cei din Betel îi trimiseseră pe Sareţer şi pe Reghem-Melek, împreună cu oamenii săi, ca să se roage Domnului

3 a nd to speak unto the priests which were in the house of the LORD of the hosts and to the prophets, saying, Should we weep in the fifth month? Should we do abstinence as we have done these so many years?

şi să-i întrebe pe preoţii din Casa Domnului Oştirilor şi pe profeţi: „Trebuie să plângem în luna a cincea şi să postim la fel cum am făcut atâţia ani?“

4 T hen the word of the LORD of the hosts came unto me, saying,

Atunci Cuvântul Domnului a venit la mine şi mi-a zis:

5 S peak unto all the people of the land and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me?

„Vorbeşte întregului popor al ţării, precum şi preoţilor şi spune-le: «Când aţi postit şi v-aţi tânguit în lunile a cincea şi a şaptea, în timpul acestor şaptezeci de ani, oare pentru Mine aţi postit voi?

6 A nd when ye ate, and when ye drank, did ye not eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves?

Iar când mâncaţi şi beţi, oare nu pentru voi înşivă mâncaţi şi beţi?

7 A re these not the words which the LORD has published by the former prophets when Jerusalem was inhabited and quiet and the cities thereof round about her and when the south and the plain were inhabited?

Nu sunt acestea cuvintele pe care le-a vestit Domnul prin profeţii din vechime, când Ierusalimul era locuit şi în pace, alături de cetăţile din jurul lui, iar Neghevul şi zona deluroasă erau şi ele locuite?»“

8 ¶ And the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah, saying,

Cuvântul Domnului a venit din nou la Zaharia şi i-a zis:

9 T hus hath the LORD of the hosts spoken, saying, Execute true judgment, and show mercy and compassion each one to his brother;

„Aşa vorbeşte Domnul Oştirilor: «Înfăptuiţi judecată dreaptă şi fiecare să arate bunătate şi milă faţă de semenul său!

10 a nd do not oppress the widow nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.

Nu asupriţi pe văduvă sau pe orfan, nici pe străin sau pe sărac şi nici unul să nu gândească rău în inima lui împotriva semenului său!»

11 B ut they refused to hearken and pulled away the shoulder and stopped their ears that they should not hear.

«Dar ei au refuzat să asculte, şi-au întors spatele cu încăpăţânare şi şi-au astupat urechile ca să n-audă!

12 Y ea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone lest they should hear the law and the words which the LORD of the hosts has sent by his Spirit by the hand of the former prophets; therefore came great wrath from the LORD of the hosts.

Şi-au făcut inima tare ca diamantul, ca să n-asculte Legea şi cuvintele pe care le trimitea Domnul Oştirilor prin Duhul Său, prin profeţii din vechime. Şi astfel a venit o mare mânie de la Domnul Oştirilor.

13 T herefore it is come to pass that as he cried and they would not hear, so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of the hosts:

Când Eu am chemat, ei n-au ascultat. Tot astfel, când ei vor chema, nici Eu nu voi asculta, zice Domnul Oştirilor.

14 b ut I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the Gentiles whom they did not know. Thus the land was desolate after them that no man passed through nor returned; for they laid the desirable land desolate.

I-am împrăştiat asemenea unei furtuni printre toate neamurile pe care nu le cunoşteau, iar ţara a fost pustiită în urma lor, aşa că nimeni nu mai trecea prin ea şi nu se mai întorcea prin ea. Şi au prefăcut astfel ţara cea plăcută într-o pustietate.»“
