1 ¶ Then Samuel took a vial of oil and poured it upon his head and kissed him and said, Is it not because the LORD has anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?

Samuel a luat sticluţa cu untdelemn, l-a turnat pe capul lui Saul şi l-a sărutat spunând: – Nu te-a uns Domnul să fii conducător peste moştenirea Lui?

2 W hen thou art departed from me today, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel’s sepulchre in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah, and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou didst go to seek are found, and thy father has left the care of the asses and sorrows for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?

După ce vei pleca de la mine, vei întâlni doi bărbaţi lângă mormântul Rahelei, la hotarul lui Beniamin, la Ţelţah. Ei îţi vor spune: „Măgăriţele, pe care te-ai dus să le cauţi, au fost găsite. Tatăl tău însă nu mai este îngrijorat pentru măgăriţe, ci este îngrijorat pentru voi. El întreabă: «Ce să fac pentru fiul meu?»“

3 T hen shalt thou go on forward from there, and thou shalt come to the plain of Tabor, and three men going up to God to Bethel shall meet thee, one carrying three kids and another carrying three loaves of bread and another carrying a bottle of wine.

Treci de locul acela şi mergi mai departe până la stejarul din Tabor. Acolo te vor întâlni trei bărbaţi care se suie la Dumnezeu, la Betel. Unul dintre ei duce cu el trei iezi, altul trei pâini, iar altul un burduf cu vin.

4 A nd they will salute thee and give thee two loaves of bread; which thou shalt receive of their hands.

Ei te vor saluta şi îţi vor dărui două pâini pe care le vei lua din mâna lor.

5 A fter that thou shalt come to the hill of God where the garrison of the Philistines is, and it shall come to pass when thou art come there to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery and a tambourine and a pipe and a harp before them; and they shall prophesy.

După aceea vei merge la Ghiva lui Dumnezeu unde se află o garnizoană de-a filistenilor. Cum vei intra în cetate, vei întâlni un grup de profeţi coborând de pe înălţime cu harfe, tamburine, flaute şi lire înaintea lor, iar ei profeţind.

6 A nd the Spirit of the LORD will prosper thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them and shalt be turned into another man.

Duhul Domnului va veni peste tine cu putere, vei profeţi împreună cu ei şi vei fi preschimbat într-un alt om.

7 A nd let it be when these signs are come unto thee that thou do according as thou shalt find at hand, for God is with thee.

Când aceste semne ţi se vor împlini, fă ceea ce mâinile tale vor găsi potrivit să facă, pentru că Domnul este cu tine.

8 A nd thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal, and, behold, I will come down unto thee to offer burnt offerings and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings. Seven days shalt thou tarry until I come to thee and show thee what thou shalt do.

Coboară-te înaintea mea la Ghilgal. După aceea voi veni şi eu la tine ca să aduc arderi de tot şi jertfe de pace. Vei aştepta şapte zile până voi veni la tine ca să-ţi fac cunoscut ce vei avea de făcut.

9 ¶ And it was so that when he had turned his shoulder to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart, and all those signs came to pass that day.

De îndată ce Saul s-a întors cu spatele ca să se despartă de Samuel, Dumnezeu i-a dat o altă inimă şi toate semnele acestea s-au împlinit în acea zi.

10 A nd when they came there to the hill, behold, the company of prophets met him, and the Spirit of God prospered him, and he prophesied among them.

Când au ajuns la Ghiva, Saul s-a întâlnit cu un grup de profeţi. Duhul lui Dumnezeu a venit cu putere peste el şi el a început să profeţească în mijlocul lor.

11 A nd it came to pass when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied among the prophets, then the people said one to another, What has happened to the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?

Când toţi cei care-l cunoşteau dinainte au văzut că profeţea împreună cu ei, au zis unul către celălalt: „Ce i s-a întâmplat fiului lui Chiş? Este cumva şi Saul printre profeţi?“

12 A nd one of the same place answered and said, But who is their father? Therefore, it became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets?

Iar un localnic a zis: „Şi cine este tatăl lor?” Astfel s-a ajuns la zicala următoare: „Este cumva şi Saul printre profeţi?“

13 A nd he ceased prophesying and came to the high place.

Când a terminat de profeţit, Saul a venit pe înălţime.

14 A nd Saul’s uncle said unto him and to his servant, Where went ye? And he said, To seek the asses, and when we saw that they were nowhere, we came to Samuel.

Atunci unchiul său l-a întrebat pe el şi pe slujitorul său: – Pe unde aţi umblat? Saul i-a răspuns: – În căutarea măgăriţelor. Însă când am văzut că nu sunt de găsit ne-am dus la Samuel.

15 A nd Saul’s uncle said, Tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said unto you.

– Spune-mi, ce v-a zis Samuel? l-a întrebat unchiul lui.

16 A nd Saul said unto his uncle, He told us plainly that the asses were found. But of the matter of the kingdom, of which Samuel spoke, he did not tell him.

– Ne-a zis că măgăriţele au fost găsite, i-a răspuns Saul. Însă nu i-a spus nimic din ce i-a vorbit Samuel cu privire la domnie. Saul, desemnat oficial drept rege al lui Israel

17 ¶ And Samuel called the people together unto the LORD to Mizpeh

Samuel a convocat poporul înaintea Domnului la Miţpa

18 a nd said unto the sons of Israel, Thus hath the LORD God of Israel said, I brought up Israel out of Egypt and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of all kingdoms and of those that oppressed you.

şi le-a spus: „Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel: «Eu l-am scos pe Israel din Egipt şi v-am eliberat de sub puterea egiptenilor şi a tuturor regatelor care vă asupreau.»

19 B ut ye have this day rejected your God, who saves you out of all your afflictions and your troubles, and ye have said unto him, No, but set a king over us. Now, therefore, present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes and by your thousands.

Voi însă Îl respingeţi astăzi pe Dumnezeul vostru Care v-a izbăvit din toate nenorocirile şi necazurile voastre, spunând: «Nu vrem să facem cum zici tu, ci pune un rege peste noi!» De aceea înfăţişaţi-vă acum înaintea Domnului, după seminţiile şi clanurile voastre.“

20 A nd when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was taken.

Samuel a apropiat toate seminţiile lui Israel, iar sorţul a căzut pe seminţia lui Beniamin.

21 W hen he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their lineages, the family of Matri was taken, and from it Saul the son of Kish was taken, and when they sought him, he could not be found.

Apoi a apropiat seminţia lui Beniamin după clanuri, iar sorţul a căzut pe clanul lui Matri. În cele din urmă sorţul a căzut pe Saul, fiul lui Chiş. Când l-au căutat însă, n-a fost găsit.

22 T herefore, they enquired of the LORD further, if the man should yet come there. And the LORD answered, Behold, he has hid himself among the stuff.

Ei l-au întrebat în continuare pe Domnul: – A sosit omul acesta aici? – Da! le-a răspuns Domnul. Este ascuns printre bagaje.

23 A nd they ran and took him from there, and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.

Ei au alergat şi l-au scos de acolo. Când a stat în picioare în mijlocul poporului, era mai înalt cu un cap decât oricare altul.

24 A nd Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the LORD has chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted and said, Long live the king.

Atunci Samuel a zis întregului popor: – Îl vedeţi pe acela pe care l-a ales Domnul ? Nu este altul ca el în tot poporul. Şi toţi au strigat: – Trăiască regele!

25 T hen Samuel recited unto the people the rights of the kingdom and wrote it in a book and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, each one to his house.

Samuel a făcut cunoscută poporului legea monarhiei şi a scris-o într-un sul, pe care l-a aşezat înaintea Domnului. După aceea, Samuel a trimis întregul popor, pe fiecare în parte, la casa lui.

26 A nd Saul also went home to Gibeah, and there went with him some from the army, whose hearts God had touched.

De asemenea, şi Saul a plecat acasă la el, în Ghiva, însoţit de vitejii ale căror inimi le atinsese Domnul.

27 B ut the sons of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him and brought him no presents. But he pretended not to notice.

S-au găsit însă şi nişte oameni nelegiuiţi care au zis: „Cum ar putea acesta să ne elibereze?“ L-au dispreţuit şi nu i-au adus nici un dar. Saul însă s-a făcut că nu-i aude.
