1 ¶ The word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke unto Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,

Iată cuvântul pe care profetul Ieremia i l-a spus lui Baruc, fiul lui Neria, în al patrulea an al lui Iehoiachim, fiul lui Iosia, regele lui Iuda, după ce Baruc scrisese într-un sul cuvintele pe care Ieremia i le dictase.

2 T hus hath the LORD, the God of Israel said unto thee, O Baruch:

„Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, cu privire la tine, Baruc:

3 T hou didst say, Woe is me now! for the LORD has added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I have found no rest.

«Tu zici: ‘Vai de mine! Domnul a adăugat necaz la durerea mea. Sunt sleit din cauza suspinelor şi nu găsesc odihnă.’

4 T hus shalt thou say unto him, The LORD said thus: Behold, I destroy those whom I have built up and those whom I have planted I pluck up, even this whole land.

Totuşi Domnul îţi zice: ‘Ceea ce am construit voi dărâma şi ceea ce am semănat voi smulge, şi anume toată ţara aceasta.

5 A nd dost thou seek great things for thyself? seek them not; for, behold, I bring evil upon all flesh, said the LORD: but I will give thee thy life as a spoil of battle in all places where thou goest.

Iar tu cauţi pentru tine lucruri mari?! Nu le căuta, căci voi aduce nenorocirea peste orice fiinţă, zice Domnul. Ţie însă îţi voi da ca pradă de război propria ta viaţă, oriunde vei merge.’»“
