1 ¶ A soft answer turns away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger.

Un răspuns blând potoleşte furia, dar o vorbă aspră provoacă mânia.

2 ¶ The tongue of the wise shall adorn wisdom, but the mouth of fools shall speak foolishness.

Limba înţelepţilor foloseşte corect cunoştinţa, dar gura proştilor împroaşcă nebunie.

3 ¶ The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding those who are evil and those who are good.

Ochii Domnului sunt în orice loc, supraveghindu-i atât pe cei răi, cât şi pe cei buni.

4 ¶ The wholesome tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

Limba care aduce însănătoşire este un pom de viaţă, dar limba stricată zdrobeşte duhul.

5 ¶ The fool despises his father’s chastening, but he that regards reproof shall become prudent.

Prostul dispreţuieşte învăţătura tatălui său, dar cine primeşte mustrarea este înţelept.

6 ¶ In the house of the righteous is much provision, but in the fruit of the wicked is trouble.

În casa celui drept este mare bogăţie, dar câştigul celor răi le aduce necaz.

7 ¶ The lips of the wise disperse wisdom, but the heart of the foolish does not so.

Buzele celor înţelepţi răspândesc cunoştinţă, nu tot aşa face şi inima proştilor.

8 ¶ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

Jertfa celor răi este o urâciune înaintea Domnului, dar rugăciunea celor drepţi Îi este plăcută.

9 ¶ The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD, but he loves him that follows after righteousness.

Calea celor răi este o urâciune înaintea Domnului, dar El îi iubeşte pe cei ce urmăresc dreptatea.

10 ¶ Chastening is grievous unto him that forsakes the way, but he that hates reproof shall die.

O disciplinare severă îl aşteaptă pe cel ce părăseşte cărarea, iar cine dispreţuieşte mustrarea va muri.

11 ¶ Sheol and hell are before the LORD; how much more then the hearts of men?

Locuinţa Morţilor şi Locul Nimicirii sunt înaintea Domnului; cu cât mai mult inimile fiilor oamenilor!

12 ¶ The scorner does not love the one that reproves him, neither will he go unto the wise.

Batjocoritorului nu-i place să fie mustrat; de aceea nu va merge la cei înţelepţi.

13 ¶ A joyful heart makes a beautiful countenance, but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is abated.

O inimă veselă înseninează faţa, dar, prin îndurerarea inimii, duhul este zdrobit.

14 ¶ The heart of him that has understanding seeks wisdom, but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.

Inima celor pricepuţi caută cunoştinţă, dar gura celor proşti se hrăneşte cu prostie.

15 ¶ All the days of the poor are difficult, but he that is of a good heart has a continual feast.

Toate zilele celui nenorocit sunt rele, dar cel cu inima voioasă are parte de un ospăţ necurmat.

16 ¶ Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

Mai bine puţin, dar cu frică de Domnul, decât o mare bogăţie cu tulburare.

17 B etter is a dinner of vegetables where love is than a fatted calf and hatred therewith.

Mai bine o mâncare de legume unde este dragoste, decât un bou îngrăşat unde este ură.

18 ¶ A wrathful man stirs up strife, but he that is slow to anger appeases strife.

Omul iute la mânie provoacă certuri, dar cel încet la mânie potoleşte cearta.

19 ¶ The way of the slothful man is as a hedge of thorns, but the path of the righteous is made plain.

Drumul leneşului este ca o barieră de spini, dar cărarea celor drepţi este netezită.

20 ¶ The wise son makes a glad father, but the foolish man despises his mother.

Un fiu înţelept aduce bucurie tatălui său, dar omul prost îşi dispreţuieşte mama.

21 ¶ Folly is joy to him that is destitute of understanding, but the man who is intelligent walks uprightly.

Prostia este o bucurie pentru cel fără minte, dar omul priceput păstrează drumul drept.

22 ¶ Without counsel purposes are disappointed, but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

Fără sfat planurile dau greş, dar ele reuşesc când sunt mulţi sfetnici.

23 ¶ A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!

Pentru un om este o bucurie să dea un răspuns iscusit şi ce bună este o vorbă spusă la timpul potrivit!

24 ¶ The way of life is uphill to the wise, that he may separate himself from Sheol below.

Pentru cel înţelept cărarea vieţii duce în sus, ca să-l abată de la Locuinţa Morţilor, care este jos.

25 ¶ The LORD will destroy the house of the proud, but he will establish the inheritance of the widow.

Domnul distruge casa celor mândri, dar întăreşte hotarele văduvei.

26 ¶ The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD, but the speech of the pure is pure.

Gândurile rele sunt o urâciune înaintea Domnului, dar cuvintele plăcute sunt curate.

27 ¶ He that is greedy of gain troubles his own house, but he that hates gifts shall live.

Cel lacom de câştig aduce necaz asupra familiei lui, dar cel ce urăşte mita va trăi.

28 ¶ The heart of the righteous studies to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.

Inima celui drept cântăreşte răspunsurile, dar gura celor răi împroaşcă lucruri rele.

29 ¶ The LORD is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

Domnul este departe de cei răi, dar ascultă rugăciunea celor drepţi.

30 ¶ The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, and a good report makes the bones fat.

O privire voioasă înveseleşte inima şi veştile bune dau sănătate oaselor.

31 ¶ The ear that hears the reproof of life shall abide among the wise.

Cel ce ascultă mustrarea care duce la viaţă va locui printre înţelepţi.

32 ¶ He that refuses chastening despises his own soul, but he that hears reproof has an understanding heart.

Cine ignoră corectarea se dispreţuieşte pe sine, dar cine ascultă mustrarea dobândeşte înţelepciune.

33 ¶ The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom, and before honour is humility.

Frica de Domnul îl învaţă pe om înţelepciunea, iar smerenia merge înaintea gloriei.
