1 ¶ Hear ye the word which the LORD has spoken over you, O house of Israel:

„Ascultaţi cuvântul pe care vi-l spune Domnul, casă a lui Israel:

2 T hus hath the LORD said, Do not learn the way of the Gentiles, and do not fear the signs of heaven, even though the Gentiles fear them.

«Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ‘Nu învăţaţi calea celorlalte neamuri şi nu vă înspăimântaţi de semnele cerurilor, chiar dacă neamurile se înspăimântă de ele.

3 F or the customs of the peoples are vanity: for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.

Căci obiceiurile neamurilor sunt deşarte; ei taie un copac din pădure şi mâna meşterului îl lucrează cu dalta.

4 T hey deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails, that it not move.

Îl împodobesc cu argint şi aur şi îl fixează cu ciocane şi cuie ca astfel să nu se clatine.

5 T hey compare them to the palm tree, and they do not speak: they must be carried, because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither do they have power to do good.

Asemenea unor sperietori într-un ogor de castraveţi, idolii lor nu pot vorbi; ei sunt purtaţi de alţii, căci nu pot merge. Să nu vă temeţi de ei, căci nu vă pot face nici un rău şi nu sunt în stare să vă facă nici un bine.’»“

6 F orasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.

„Nici unul nu este ca Tine, Doamne! Tu eşti mare şi Numele Tău este măreţ în putere.

7 W ho would not fear thee, O King of the Gentiles? for unto thee does it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise men of the Gentiles and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee.

Cine să nu se teamă de Tine, Împărate al neamurilor? Ţie Ţi se cuvine teama! Căci printre toţi înţelepţii neamurilor şi în toate regatele lor nu este nimeni ca Tine.

8 B ut they shall become altogether carnal and foolish. The stock is a doctrine of vanities.

Toţi laolaltă sunt proşti şi nebuni; ştiinţa lor este dată de idoli deşerţi din lemn.

9 S ilver spread into plates shall be brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, shall the workman work and the hands of the founder: they shall dress them in blue and purple: they are all the work of cunning men.

Argintul bătut este adus din Tarşiş şi aurul din Ufaz; Ceea ce meşterul şi aurarul au făcut este îmbrăcat apoi în albastru şi purpuriu; toate sunt lucrate de meşteri pricepuţi.

10 B ut the LORD God is the Truth, he himself is Living God and Everlasting King: at his wrath the earth trembles, and the Gentiles shall not be able to abide his indignation.

Domnul însă este adevăratul Dumnezeu. El este Dumnezeul cel Viu şi Împăratul cel Veşnic. Când El se mânie, pământul se cutremură şi neamurile nu pot suferi indignarea Lui.

11 T hus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens or the earth, even they shall perish from the earth and from under these heavens.

De aceea, aşa să le vorbiţi: «Aceşti zei, care nu au făcut cerurile şi pământul, vor pieri de pe faţa pământului şi de sub ceruri.»

12 H e that makes the earth by his power, he that orders the world with his wisdom and extends the heavens with his intelligence:

El însă a făcut pământul prin puterea Lui, a întemeiat lumea prin înţelepciunea Lui şi a întins cerurile prin priceperea Lui.

13 a t his voice, there is given a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causes the clouds to ascend from the ends of the earth; he makes the lightnings with the rain and brings forth the wind out of his treasures.

La tunetul Lui urlă apele din ceruri. El înalţă norii de la marginile pământului, trimite fulgerele şi ploaia şi scoate vântul din cămările Lui.

14 E very man is carnal in his knowledge: let every founder be ashamed of his graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no spirit in them.

Toţi oamenii sunt proşti şi fără cunoştinţă; orice aurar rămâne de ruşine cu idolii lui, căci chipurile lui turnate sunt numai minciună şi nu au nici o suflare în ele.

15 T hey are vanity and the work of scorn: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

Sunt fără nici o valoare, sunt o lucrare de batjocură! Când va veni vremea să fie pedepsiţi, vor pieri.

16 T he portion of Jacob is not like them: for he is the Former of all things, and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: The LORD of the hosts is his name.

Dar Partea lui Iacov nu este ca aceştia, căci El este Cel Ce a întocmit totul, iar Israel este seminţia moştenirii Lui – Domnul Oştirilor este Numele Lui.“ Iminenţa exilului

17 ¶ Gather up thy wares out of the lands, O inhabitant of the fortress.

„Adună-ţi lucrurile din ţară, tu care eşti sub asediu,

18 F or thus hath the LORD said, Behold, that this time I will throw out the inhabitants of the land with a sling and will afflict them, that they may find it.

căci aşa vorbeşte Domnul: «Iată, de data aceasta îi voi arunca departe pe cei ce locuiesc în ţară; voi aduce suferinţă peste ei ca să poată fi prinşi.»“

19 W oe is me for my hurt! my wound is grievous, but I said, Truly this is my sickness, and I must bear it.

„Vai de mine! Sunt zdrobit! Rana mea este fără vindecare! Dar îmi zic: «Aceasta îmi este boala şi trebuie s-o îndur.»

20 M y tent is destroyed, and all my cords are broken: my sons were taken from me, and they are lost; there is no one to stretch forth my tent any more and to set up my curtains.

Cortul meu este distrus; toate funiile îmi sunt rupte. Fiii mei s-au depărtat de la mine şi nu mai sunt; nu a mai rămas nimeni să-mi întindă iarăşi cortul şi să-mi ridice draperiile.

21 F or the pastors are become carnal and have not sought the LORD; therefore they did not understand, and all their flocks scattered.

Păstorii s-au prostit şi nu L-au căutat pe Domnul. De aceea n-au propăşit şi li s-au risipit toate turmele.

22 B ehold, the voice of the rumour is come, and a great commotion out of the land of the north wind to make the cities of Judah desolate and a den of dragons.

Iată, se aude o veste: un mare cutremur se apropie din ţara de nord, ca să prefacă cetăţile lui Iuda într-un pustiu, într-o vizuină de şacali. Rugăciunea lui Ieremia

23 O LORD, I know that man is not the lord of his own way: it is not in man that walks to order his steps.

Ştiu, Doamne, că viaţa unui om nu-i aparţine, nici nu stă în puterea unui om ca atunci când umblă să-şi conducă paşii.

24 O LORD, chastise me, but with judgment; not with thine anger lest thou bring me to nothing.

Disciplinează-mă, Doamne, dar numai cu măsură; nu în mânia Ta, ca nu cumva să mă reduci la nimic.

25 P our out thy fury upon the Gentiles that do not know thee and upon the nations that do not call on thy name: for they have eaten up Jacob and devoured him and consumed him and have destroyed his habitation.

Varsă-Ţi furia asupra neamurilor care nu Te cunosc şi asupra clanurilor care nu cheamă Numele Tău, căci ele l-au mâncat pe Iacov, l-au devorat, i-au pus capăt şi i-au distrus locuinţa.“
