1 ¶ And Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there, and, behold, the redeemer of whom Boaz spoke came by unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! Come here and sit down. And he came and sat down.

Boaz s-a dus la poarta cetăţii şi s-a aşezat acolo. Tocmai atunci trecea cel ce avea drept de răscumpărare, cel despre care vorbise Boaz. Boaz i-a zis: – Prietene, întoarce-te şi aşază-te aici, te rog! Acesta s-a întors şi s-a aşezat.

2 T hen he took ten men of the elders of the city and said, Sit down here. And they sat down.

Boaz a adus şi zece dintre cei din sfatul bătrânilor cetăţii, zicându-le: – Aşezaţi-vă aici! Ei s-au aşezat acolo.

3 A nd he said unto the redeemer, Naomi, that is come again out of the field of Moab, sold a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech’s,

Apoi i-a zis celui cu drept de răscumpărare: – Naomi, care s-a întors din câmpiile Moabului, a scos la vânzare parcela de pământ care era a rudei noastre, Elimelek.

4 a nd I decided to cause thee to know this and tell thee to take it before the inhabitants and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it, but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me that I may know, for there is no one to redeem it besides thee, and I after thee. And he said, I will redeem it.

M-am gândit să te anunţ şi să-ţi spun: „Cumpăr-o acum de faţă cu locuitorii şi de faţă cu cei din sfatul bătrânilor poporului meu. Dacă vrei deci s-o răscumperi, răscumpăr-o, dar dacă nu vrei s-o răscumperi, atunci spune-mi, ca să ştiu, căci nu este nimeni înaintea ta cu drept de răscumpărare, iar după tine urmez eu. – O voi răscumpăra eu, i-a răspuns acesta.

5 T hen Boaz replied, The day that thou dost receive the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must also receive Ruth, the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.

– În ziua în care vei cumpăra parcela de la Naomi, i-a mai zis Boaz, va trebui s-o răscumperi şi pe moabita Rut, soţia celui ce a murit, ca să păstrezi numele mortului în cadrul moştenirii lui.

6 A nd the redeemer said, I cannot redeem it for myself lest I ruin my own inheritance; redeem thou; I cede my right to you, for I shall not be able to redeem it.

Atunci cel ce avea drept de răscumpărare i-a răspuns: – Aşa nu-mi permit s-o răscumpăr, ca nu cumva să-mi pun în primejdie propria moştenire. Răscumpăr-o tu! Poţi lua tu dreptul meu de răscumpărare, căci eu nu-mi permit s-o răscumpăr.

7 N ow for a long time in Israel there had been this custom concerning redemption or contracts, that for the confirmation of all matters: one plucked off his shoe and gave it to his neighbour, and this was a testimony in Israel.

Pe vremuri, în Israel, pentru a întări toate rânduielile privitoare la răscumpărare şi la schimbarea dreptului de răscumpărare, unul îşi scotea sandala şi i-o dădea celuilalt. Aceasta slujea drept mărturie în Israel.

8 T herefore, the former owner of the right of redemption said unto Boaz, Buy it thyself. So he drew off his shoe.

Deci cel ce avea drept de răscumpărare i-a zis lui Boaz: – Cumpăr-o tu! Apoi şi-a scos sandala.

9 ¶ And Boaz said unto the elders and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day that I have bought all that was Elimelech’s and all that was Chilion’s and Mahlon’s, of the hand of Naomi.

Atunci Boaz le-a zis celor din sfatul bătrânilor şi întregului popor: – Astăzi sunteţi martori că am cumpărat din mâna lui Naomi tot ce a aparţinut lui Elimelek, lui Chilion şi lui Mahlon.

10 M oreover, I also take Ruth, the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, as my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance that the name of the dead not be cut off from among his brethren and from the gate of his place. Ye shall be witnesses of this today.

De asemenea, pe moabita Rut, văduva lui Mahlon, am cumpărat-o de soţie, ca să păstrez numele mortului în cadrul moştenirii lui, astfel încât să nu se şteargă numele acestuia dintre rudele lui şi din cetatea sa. Sunteţi martori astăzi!

11 A nd all the people that were in the gate and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into thy house like Rachel and like Leah, who built the house of Israel; and be thou a man of valour in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem;

Tot poporul care era la poartă şi cei din sfatul bătrânilor i-au răspuns: – Suntem martori! Să o facă Domnul pe femeia care intră în casa ta ca pe Rahela şi ca pe Lea care, împreună, au zidit Casa lui Israel! Să-ţi sporească puterea în Efrata şi să-ţi faci un nume în Betleem!

12 l et thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bore unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman.

Fie familia ta, prin urmaşul pe care ţi-l va da Domnul din această tânără, ca familia lui Pereţ care i s-a născut lui Iuda din Tamar. Linia genealogică a lui David

13 ¶ So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife, and when he went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bore a son.

Boaz a luat-o pe Rut şi ea a devenit soţia lui. El a intrat la ea şi Domnul a dat rod pântecului ei, astfel că aceasta a născut un fiu.

14 A nd the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the LORD, who has not left thee this day without a redeemer, whose name shall be famous in Israel.

Femeile i-au zis lui Naomi: „Binecuvântat să fie Domnul, Cel Ce nu te-a lăsat astăzi fără un răscumpărător. Fie ca numele lui să fie vestit în Israel!

15 A nd he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy soul and a sustainer in thy old age, for thy daughter-in-law, whom thou doth love, who is better to thee than seven sons, has given birth.

El îţi va reînviora sufletul şi va fi sprijinul bătrâneţii tale, căci l-a născut nora ta care te iubeşte şi care preţuieşte pentru tine mai mult decât şapte fii.“

16 A nd Naomi took the child and laid it in her bosom and was his nurse.

Naomi a luat copilul, l-a strâns la piept şi i-a fost acestuia ca o mamă.

17 A nd the women, her neighbours, named him, saying, There is a son born to Naomi, and they called his name Obed. This is the father of Jesse, the father of David.

Vecinele i-au pus numele Obed, spunând: „I s-a născut un fiu lui Naomi!“ El a fost tatăl lui Işai, tatăl lui David.

18 N ow these are the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron,

Aceştia sunt descendenţii lui Pereţ: din Pereţ s-a născut Heţron,

19 a nd Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab,

din Heţron s-a născut Ram, din Ram s-a născut Aminadab,

20 a nd Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon,

din Aminadab s-a născut Nahşon, din Nahşon s-a născut Salmon,

21 a nd Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed,

din Salmon s-a născut Boaz, din Boaz s-a născut Obed,

22 a nd Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.

din Obed s-a născut Işai, iar din Işai s-a născut David.
