1 ¶ And David said, Is anyone left of the house of Saul that I may show him mercy for Jonathan’s sake?

David a întrebat: „Se mai află în viaţă cineva din familia lui Saul, căruia să-i pot arăta bunătate, din pricina lui Ionatan?“

2 A nd there was a servant of the house of Saul whose name was Ziba. And when they had called him unto David, the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he said, Thy slave is he.

Familia lui Saul avusese un slujitor pe nume Ţiba, pe care l-au chemat la David. Regele l-a întrebat: – Tu eşti Ţiba? – Eu, slujitorul tău, sunt acela! i-a răspuns el.

3 A nd the king said, Is there no one left of the house of Saul that I may show the mercy of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, There remains a son of Jonathan, who is lame on his feet.

Regele l-a întrebat: – Se mai află în viaţă vreun bărbat din familia lui Saul, căruia să-i pot arăta o bunătate ca cea a lui Dumnezeu? – Da, unul dintre fiii lui Ionatan mai este în viaţă, însă este olog de ambele picioare, i-a răspuns Ţiba.

4 A nd the king said unto him, Where is he? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, in Lodebar.

– Unde se află acesta? l-a mai întrebat regele. – În casa lui Machir, fiul lui Amiel, din Lo-Debar, i-a răspuns Ţiba.

5 T hen King David sent and took him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar.

Regele David a trimis după el şi l-a adus din Lo-Debar, din casa lui Machir, fiul lui Amiel.

6 N ow when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face and worshipped. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy slave!

Când Mefiboşet, fiul lui Ionatan şi nepotul lui Saul, a ajuns înaintea lui David şi-a plecat faţa şi s-a închinat. David i-a zis: – Mefiboşet! – Iată slujitorul tău! i-a răspuns el.

7 A nd David said unto him, Fear not; for I will surely show thee mercy for Jonathan, thy father’s sake, and will restore unto thee all the land of Saul, thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.

– Nu te teme, i-a zis David, căci vreau să-ţi arăt bunătate, din pricina tatălui tău, Ionatan. Am să-ţi înapoiez toate terenurile care au fost ale bunicului tău, Saul, şi vei mânca întotdeauna la masa mea.

8 A nd he bowed himself and said, Who is thy slave, that thou should look upon such a dead dog as I am?

Mefiboşet i s-a închinat şi i-a zis: – Ce este slujitorul tău ca să bagi în seamă un câine mort cum sunt eu?

9 ¶ Then the king called to Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said unto him, I have given unto thy master’s son all that pertained to Saul and to all his house.

Regele l-a chemat apoi pe Ţiba, slujitorul lui Saul, şi i-a zis: – I-am dăruit nepotului stăpânului tău tot ceea ce aparţinuse lui Saul şi întregii sale familii.

10 T hou, therefore, and thy sons and thy slaves shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruits that thy master’s son may have bread to eat, but Mephibosheth, thy master’s son, shall eat bread always at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty slaves.

Tu, fiii tăi şi slujitorii tăi îi veţi lucra pământul şi-i veţi culege recolta pentru ca nepotul stăpânului tău să aibă ce să mănânce. Mefiboşet, nepotul stăpânului tău, va mânca întotdeauna la masa mea. Ţiba avea cincisprezece fii şi douăzeci de slujitori.

11 T hen Ziba said unto the king, According to all that my lord the king has commanded his slave, so shall thy slave do. As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table as one of the king’s sons.

El i-a răspuns regelui: – Slujitorul tău va face tot ceea ce stăpânul meu, regele, i-a poruncit să facă. Astfel, Mefiboşet a mâncat la masa lui David ca unul dintre fiii acestuia.

12 A nd Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Micha. And all that dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants unto Mephibosheth.

Mefiboşet avea un fiu tânăr pe nume Mica. Toţi cei ce locuiau în casa lui Ţiba erau slujitorii lui Mefiboşet.

13 S o Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem, for he ate continually at the king’s table and was lame on both his feet.

Mefiboşet locuia la Ierusalim, fiindcă mânca întotdeauna la masa regelui. El era olog de ambele picioare.
