1 ¶ And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

Cuvântul Domnului a venit la mine şi mi-a zis:

2 S on of man, speak to the sons of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring a sword upon the land and the people of the land take a man from within their borders and set him up as a watchman;

„Fiul omului, vorbeşte-le celor din poporul tău şi spune-le: «Când voi aduce sabia împotriva unei ţări, iar cei din poporul ţării vor lua din mijlocul lor un om şi-l vor pune să fie străjer al lor,

3 a nd he should see the sword coming upon the land, if he should blow the shofar, and warn the people,

dacă străjerul vede sabia venind împotriva ţării şi sună din trâmbiţă, dând de ştire poporului,

4 t hen whoever hears the sound of the shofar and does not take warning; and the coming of the sword should take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.

iar cel care aude sunetul trâmbiţei nu ia aminte, atunci sabia va veni şi îi va lua viaţa. Sângele lui să cadă asupra capului lui.

5 H e heard the sound of the shofar and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But he that takes warning shall deliver his soul.

Fiindcă a auzit sunetul trâmbiţei şi nu a luat aminte, sângele lui să cadă asupra lui. Dar dacă ia aminte, îşi va scăpa viaţa.

6 B ut if the watchman should see the sword coming and not blow the shofar and the people not be warned, if the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away because of his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.

Dacă însă străjerul vede sabia venind şi nu sună din trâmbiţă, astfel că poporul nu este avertizat, iar sabia vine şi ia viaţa cuiva, omul acela va fi omorât din pricina nelegiuirii sale, dar sângele lui îl voi cere din mâna străjerului.

7 S o thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth and warn them from me.

Tu, fiul omului, eşti străjerul pe care l-am pus peste Casa lui Israel. Tu vei auzi cuvântul din gura Mea şi le vei da de ştire din partea Mea.

8 W hen I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die for his sin; but I will require his blood at thine hand.

Când îi voi zice celui rău: «Omule rău, vei muri cu siguranţă!», iar tu nu vei vorbi cu cel rău ca să-l avertizezi cu privire la calea lui, omul acela rău va muri din pricina nelegiuirii lui, dar sângele lui îl voi cere din mâna ta.

9 N evertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it, if he does not turn from his way, he shall die for his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

Dar dacă tu îl vei avertiza pe cel rău ca să renunţe la calea lui, iar el nu se va întoarce de la umbletele lui, atunci el va muri din pricina nelegiuirii lui, iar tu îţi vei scăpa sufletul.» Dreptatea şi mila lui Dumnezeu

10 ¶ Therefore, O thou son of man, speak unto the house of Israel: Ye speak thus, saying, Our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we are consumed because of them. How should we then live?

Tu, fiul omului, spune-le celor din Casa lui Israel următorul lucru: «Voi ziceţi: ‘Nelegiuirile şi păcatele noastre apasă greu asupra noastră. Suntem uscaţi de vlagă din pricina lor. Cum vom putea trăi?’

11 S ay unto them, As I live, said the Lord GOD, I do not desire the death of the wicked but that the wicked turn from his way and that he live; turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

Prin urmare, spune-le astfel: ‘Viu sunt Eu, zice Stăpânul Domn, că Eu nu-Mi găsesc plăcerea în moartea celui rău, ci doresc ca el să se întoarcă de la calea lui şi să trăiască. Întoarceţi-vă! Întoarceţi-vă de la căile voastre cele rele! Pentru ce vrei să pieri, Casă a lui Israel?’»

12 A nd thou, son of man, say unto the sons of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him the day that he rebels; and the wickedness of the wicked shall not impede him in the day that he turns from his wickedness; and the righteous shall not be able to live by his righteousness in the day that he sins.

De aceea, fiul omului, spune-le celor din poporul tău astfel: «Dreptatea celui drept nu-l va scăpa în ziua nelegiuirii lui, iar răutatea celui rău nu-l va face să cadă în ziua când se întoarce de la răutatea lui. Cel drept nu va putea trăi prin dreptatea lui în ziua când a păcătuit.

13 W hen I am saying to the righteous, Thou shalt shall surely live and he trusting in his own righteousness commits iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he has committed, he shall die for it.

Când Eu îi spun celui drept că în mod sigur va trăi, iar el, încrezându-se în dreptatea lui, săvârşeşte nedreptate, toată dreptatea lui nu i se va mai aminti şi va muri din pricina nedreptăţii pe care a săvârşit-o.

14 A nd, when I am saying unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; if he turns from his sin, and does judgment and righteousness

Tot astfel atunci când Eu îi spun celui rău: ‘Sigur vei muri!’, dacă el se întoarce de la păcatul lui şi face judecată şi dreptate,

15 i f the wicked restores the pledge, returns that which he had robbed, walks in the statutes of life, without committing iniquity he shall surely live; he shall not die.

dacă cel rău dă înapoi garanţia, înapoiază ce a jefuit, urmează învăţăturile dătătoare de viaţă şi nu mai săvârşeşte nedreptate, în mod sigur va trăi şi nu va muri.

16 N one of his sins that he has committed shall be mentioned unto him. Has he lived according to judgment and righteousness? He shall surely live.

Toate păcatele pe care le-a săvârşit nu i se vor mai aminti; el a făcut judecată şi dreptate, prin urmare, în mod sigur va trăi.»

17 T hen the sons of thy people shall say, The way of the Lord is not straight: but their way is the one that is not straight.

Şi totuşi cei din poporul tău zic: «Calea Stăpânului nu este dreaptă!» Dar, de fapt, calea lor este cea nedreaptă!

18 W hen the righteous turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, he shall die thereby.

Aşadar, dacă cel drept se întoarce de la dreptatea lui şi săvârşeşte nedreptate, el va muri din pricina aceasta.

19 A nd when the wicked turns from his wickedness and does judgment and righteousness, he shall live thereby.

Tot astfel, dacă cel rău se întoarce de la răutatea lui şi face judecată şi dreptate, va trăi tocmai din pricina aceasta.

20 Y et ye say, The way of the Lord is not straight. O ye house of Israel, I will judge you each one after his ways.

Fiindcă ziceţi: «Calea Stăpânului nu este dreaptă!», vă voi judeca pe fiecare după umbletele voastre, Casă a lui Israel!»“ Împlinirea profeţiei cu privire la căderea Ierusalimului

21 ¶ And it came to pass in the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth month, in the fifth day of the month, that one that had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me, saying, The city is smitten.

În al doisprezecelea an al exilului nostru, în ziua a cincea a lunii a zecea, a venit la mine un fugar de la Ierusalim şi mi-a zis: „Cetatea a fost capturată!“

22 N ow the hand of the LORD was upon me in the evening before he that was escaped came, and had opened my mouth, until he came to me in the morning; and he opened my mouth, and I was never dumb again.

Mâna Domnului fusese peste mine încă de la lăsarea serii, înainte de a sosi fugarul, şi El îmi deschisese gura înainte de a sosi fugarul la mine, dimineaţa. Aşadar, gura îmi fusese deschisă şi nu mai eram mut.

23 A nd the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

Cuvântul Domnului a venit la mine şi mi-a zis:

24 S on of man, those that inhabit these wastes in the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he possessed the land; but we are many; the land is given us for a possession.

„Fiul omului, locuitorii acestor ruine din ţara lui Israel zic: «Avraam a fost singur, dar tot a luat în stăpânire ţara. Noi suntem mulţi, deci cu siguranţă ţara ne-a fost dată şi nouă drept moştenire!»

25 T herefore say unto them, Thus hath the Lord GOD said; Ye eat with the blood and lift up your eyes toward your idols and shed blood, and shall ye possess this land?

De aceea spune-le că aşa vorbeşte Stăpânul Domn: «Voi care mâncaţi carne cu sânge, care vă ridicaţi ochii spre idolii voştri şi vărsaţi sânge, voi să moşteniţi ţara?

26 Y e stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and ye defile each one his neighbour’s wife, and shall ye possess the land?

Vă încredeţi în sabia voastră, săvârşiţi urâciuni şi fiecare din voi o necinsteşte pe soţia semenului său. Ar trebui deci să moşteniţi ţara?»

27 T hou shalt speak unto them like this, Thus hath the Lord GOD said; As I live, surely those that are in those wastes shall fall by the sword, and he that is in the open field I will give to the beasts to be devoured, and those that are in the forts and in the caves shall die of the pestilence.

Să le mai spui: «Aşa vorbeşte Stăpânul Domn: ‘Viu sunt Eu, că cei ce se află printre ruine vor cădea răpuşi de sabie, pe cei ce sunt pe câmp îi voi da de mâncare fiarelor, iar cei din fortăreţe şi cei din peşteri vor muri din pricina molimei.

28 F or I will make the land into desert and solitude, and the pride of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that no one shall pass through.

Voi preface ţara într-o pustietate şi într-un loc devastat, iar mândria tăriei ei se va sfârşi. Munţii lui Israel vor fi atât de pustiiţi, încât nimeni nu-i va mai traversa.

29 T hen they shall know that I am the LORD, when I have made the land into solitude and desert because of all their abominations which they have committed.

Când voi preface ţara într-o pustietate şi într-un loc devastat din pricina urâciunilor pe care le-au săvârşit, vor şti că Eu sunt Domnul. ’»

30 ¶ And thou, son of man, the sons of thy people are still talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses and speak one to another, each one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that comes forth from the LORD.

Fiul omului, cei din poporul tău vorbesc despre tine pe lângă ziduri şi pe la uşile caselor şi-şi zic unul altuia, fiecare fratelui său, astfel: «Haidem să mergem să auzim care este cuvântul ieşit de la Domnul!»

31 A nd they shall come unto thee as the people come, and they shall be before thee, my people, and they shall hear thy words, but they shall not do them; for with their mouth they flatter, but their heart goes after their covetousness.

Şi vin la tine cu grămada! Cei din poporul Meu se aşază înaintea ta şi ascultă cuvintele tale, dar nu le împlinesc, căci cu gura ei vorbesc atât de dulce, dar inima lor umblă după câştig necinstit.

32 A nd, behold, thou art unto them as a singer of love songs, one that has a good voice and can sing well: and they shall hear thy words, but they will not do them.

Tu eşti pentru ei ca un cântăreţ plăcut, cu voce frumoasă, iscusit să cânte la instrumente cu corzi. Ei ascultă cuvintele tale, dar nu le împlinesc deloc.

33 B ut when this comes to pass (behold, it comes), then they shall know that a prophet has been among them.

Însă când va veni pustiirea – şi iat-o că vine – vor şti că a fost un profet în mijlocul lor.“
