1 ¶ Woe unto those that are at ease in Zion and to those that trust in the mountain of Samaria, who are named principals among the same nations which shall come upon them, O house of Israel!

«Vai de cei ce trăiesc fără grijă în Sion, de cei ce se cred la adăpost pe Muntele Samaria, oameni distinşi ai celui mai de seamă dintre neamuri, la care apelează Casa lui Israel!

2 P ass unto Calneh and see, and from there go to Hamath the great; then go down to Gath of the Palestinians. Are they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?

Treceţi la Kalne şi priviţi! Mergeţi de acolo la marele Hamat şi coborâţi apoi la Gatul filistenilor! Sunt ele mai bune decât cele două regate ale voastre? Sau sunt hotarele lor mai mari decât hotarele voastre?

3 Y e that put far away the evil day and cause the seat of violence to come near;

Aţi dat deoparte ziua cea rea şi aţi adus aproape tronul violenţei!

4 t hat lie upon beds of ivory and stretch themselves upon their couches and eat the lambs out of the flock and the calves out of the midst of the stall;

Ei se întind pe paturi încrustate cu fildeş, se tolănesc în aşternuturile lor, mănâncă miei din turmă şi viţei din grajduri.

5 t hat chant to the sound of the flute and invent to themselves instruments of music, like David;

Petrec în sunetul harfei, şi, asemenea lui David, improvizează la instrumentele muzicale!

6 t hat drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments, but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

Beau vin din cupe mari şi se ung cu cele mai bune uleiuri, dar nu sunt mâhniți din pricina dezastrului lui Iosif!

7 T herefore now they shall go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of those that stretched themselves upon their couches shall be removed.

De aceea, ei vor merge acum în captivitate în fruntea captivilor, şi vor înceta astfel strigătele de veselie şi lenevirea!» Domnul detestă mândria lui Israel

8 ¶ The Lord GOD has sworn by himself, the LORD God of the hosts said, I abhor the grandeur of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore I will give the city with all that is therein over to the enemy.

Stăpânul Domn a jurat pe Sine Însuşi. Astfel zice Domnul, Dumnezeul Oştirilor: «Mi-e scârbă de mândria lui Iacov şi îi urăsc fortăreţele; voi da pe mâna duşmanului cetatea şi tot ce este în ea!

9 A nd it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die.

Dacă vor mai fi lăsaţi zece bărbaţi într-o casă şi aceia vor muri!

10 A nd their uncle shall take each one and burn them to bring out the bones out of the house and shall say unto him that is by the sides of the house, Is there yet any with thee? and he shall say, No. Then he shall say, Hold thy tongue, for we may not make mention of the name of the LORD.

Iar când ruda vreunuia va veni să-i scoată trupul din casă, ca să-l ardă, şi-l va întreba pe cel care încă mai este ascuns în nişa casei: ‘Mai este cineva cu tine?’, i se va răspunde: ‘Nu!’. Atunci ruda va zice: ‘Tăcere! Nu trebuie să pomenim Numele Domnului!’»

11 F or, behold, the LORD shall command, and he will smite the great house with breaches and the little house with clefts.

Căci iată că Domnul porunceşte: «Casa cea mare va fi prefăcută în fărâme, iar casa cea mică – în bucăţele!»

12 S hall horses run upon the rocks? will one plow there with oxen? why have ye turned judgment into hemlock, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood?

«Pot caii să alerge pe stâncă sau poate cineva să are acolo cu boii ? Totuşi voi aţi prefăcut judecata în otravă, iar rodul dreptăţii – în pelin.

13 Y e who rejoice in a thing of nought, who say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength?

Voi vă bucuraţi de ceea ce s-a întâmplat la Lo Debar şi ziceţi: ‘Oare nu prin puterea noastră am cucerit noi Karnaimul ?’

14 B ut, behold, I will raise up against you Gentiles, O house of Israel, said the LORD God of the hosts, and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.

Dar iată că voi ridica împotriva ta, Casă a lui Israel, zice Domnul, Dumnezeul Oştirilor, un neam care te va asupri de la Lebo Hamat până la Valea Arabei.»“
