1 ¶ Beloved, I now write unto you this second epistle, in which I alert with exhortation your pure understanding,

Preaiubiţilor, aceasta este deja a doua scrisoare pe care v-o scriu. În amândouă încerc să vă trezesc mintea sinceră prin a vă atenţiona

2 t hat ye keep in memory the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets and of our commandment, that we are apostles of the Lord and Saviour,

că trebuie să vă amintiţi de cuvintele spuse mai înainte de sfinţii profeţi şi de porunca Domnului şi Mântuitorului, care v-a fost spusă prin apostoli.

3 ¶ knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts

Înainte de toate, trebuie să ştiţi că în zilele de pe urmă vor veni batjocoritori plini de batjocură, care vor umbla după poftele lor

4 a nd saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For since the day in which the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

şi vor zice: „Unde este promisiunea venirii Lui? Căci de când au adormit strămoşii noştri, toate rămân aşa cum au fost de la începutul creaţiei!“

5 O f course, they willingly ignore that the heavens were created of old and the earth standing out of the water and in the water, by the word of God;

Ei înadins ignoră faptul că prin Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu au existat ceruri cu mult timp în urmă, precum şi un pământ scos din apă şi întreţinut prin apă

6 b y which the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished;

şi că lumea de atunci a fost distrusă tot prin ele, când a fost inundată de apă.

7 b ut the heavens, which are now, and the earth are conserved by the same word, kept unto the fire in the day of judgment and of perdition of the ungodly men.

Însă cerurile şi pământul de acum sunt păstrate pentru foc prin acelaşi Cuvânt, fiind ţinute până în ziua judecăţii şi a distrugerii oamenilor neevlavioşi.

8 ¶ But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day before the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years are as one day.

Preaiubiţilor, nu ignoraţi faptul că, pentru Domnul, o zi este ca o mie de ani, iar o mie de ani sunt ca o zi!

9 ¶ The Lord is not late concerning his promise, as some count lateness, but is patient with us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Domnul nu este încet în a-Şi împlini promisiunea, aşa cum înţeleg unii încetineala, ci are răbdare cu voi şi nu doreşte să piară vreunul, ci toţi să ajungă la pocăinţă.

10 B ut the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements, burning, shall be dissolved, and the earth and the works that are in it shall be burned up.

Ziua Domnului va veni ca un hoţ. În ziua aceea cerurile vor trece cu trosnet, corpurile cereşti vor fi distruse prin ardere, iar pământul cu toate lucrările de pe el vor fi dezvăluite.

11 ¶ Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

Având în vedere că toate aceste lucruri vor fi distruse astfel, ce fel de oameni ar trebui să fiţi voi, trăind nişte vieţi sfinte şi evlavioase,

12 w aiting for and desiring earnestly for the coming of the day of God, in which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

aşteptând şi grăbind venirea zilei lui Dumnezeu, zi în urma căreia cerurile vor fi distruse prin foc, şi corpurile cereşti vor fi topite prin ardere.

13 N evertheless we, according to his promises, wait for new heavens and a new earth, in which dwells righteousness.

Dar noi, după promisiunea Lui, aşteptăm ceruri noi şi un pământ nou, în care va locui dreptatea.

14 T herefore, beloved, seeing that ye hope for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot and blameless.

De aceea, preaiubiţilor, în timp ce aşteptaţi aceste lucruri, străduiţi-vă să fiţi găsiţi de El în pace, fără pată şi fără vină!

15 A nd have as saving health the patience of our Lord, even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him has written unto you

Consideraţi răbdarea Domnului nostru ca fiind mântuire, aşa cum v-a scris şi preaiubitul nostru frate Pavel, după înţelepciunea care i-a fost dată,

16 i n almost all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, among which are some things that are hard to understand, which those that are ignorant and unstable twist, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

căci aşa face în toate scrisorile lui, când vorbeşte despre aceste lucruri. În ele sunt lucruri greu de înţeles, pe care cei neştiutori şi nestatornici le interpretează greşit, ca şi pe celelalte Scripturi, spre propria lor distrugere.

17 Y e, therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things in advance, be on guard lest by the error of the wicked ye be deceived with the others and fall from your own steadfastness.

Voi deci, preaiubiţilor, pentru că ştiţi mai dinainte aceste lucruri, păziţi-vă, ca să nu fiţi duşi de rătăcirea acestor nelegiuiţi şi să cădeţi din fermitatea voastră,

18 B ut grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and until the day of eternity. Amen.

ci creşteţi în harul şi în cunoaşterea Domnului şi Mântuitorului nostru Isus Cristos! A Lui să fie slava acum şi în ziua veşniciei! Amin.
