1 ¶ And it came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight against Israel. And Achish said unto David, Know for certain, that thou shalt go out with me to battle, thou and thy men.

În acele zile filistenii şi-au adunat oştirile pentru război ca să lupte împotriva lui Israel. Achiş i-a zis lui David: – Fii sigur că tu şi oamenii tăi veţi veni cu mine în tabără.

2 A nd David said to Achish, Surely thou shalt know what thy slave can do. And Achish said to David, Therefore, I will make thee keeper of my head all the days.

– În felul acesta vei şti de ce este în stare slujitorul tău, i-a răspuns David lui Achiş. – Tocmai de aceea te voi pune păzitorul capului meu pentru totdeauna, i-a zis Achiş. Saul, la vrăjitoarea din En-Dor

3 N ow Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah in his own city. And Saul had removed the spiritists and the diviners out of the land.

Samuel murise. Tot Israelul îl jelise şi îl înmormântase în cetatea sa, în Rama. Saul îndepărtase din ţară pe cei care cheamă duhurile morţilor şi pe descântători.

4 A nd the Philistines gathered themselves together and came and pitched camp in Shunem, and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they pitched camp in Gilboa.

Filistenii s-au adunat şi au venit ca să-şi aşeze tabăra la Şunem. Saul a adunat tot Israelul şi şi-au aşezat tabăra la Ghilboa.

5 A nd when Saul saw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly.

Când Saul a văzut tabăra filistenilor i s-a făcut frică şi s-a îngrozit.

6 A nd Saul enquired of the LORD, but the LORD did not answer him by dreams nor by Urim nor by prophets.

Saul L-a întrebat pe Domnul, însă Domnul nu i-a răspuns nici prin vise, nici prin Urim şi nici prin profeţi.

7 ¶ Then Saul said unto his slaves, Seek me a woman that is a spiritist that I may go to her and enquire of her. And his slaves said to him, Behold, there is a woman that is a spiritist at Endor.

Atunci Saul le-a poruncit slujitorilor săi: – Căutaţi-mi o femeie care cheamă duhurile morţilor ca să merg la ea şi s-o întreb. Slujitorii săi i-au răspuns: – Iată, în En-Dor se află o femeie care cheamă duhurile morţilor.

8 A nd Saul disguised himself and put on other clothing, and he went with two men, and they came to the woman by night; and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by spiritism and bring me him up whom I shall name unto thee.

Saul s-a deghizat, s-a îmbrăcat cu alte haine şi a plecat însoţit de doi bărbaţi. Au ajuns la femeie noaptea şi el i-a zis: – Prezi-mi, te rog, viitorul, ridicând un duh pentru mine, şi anume pe acela pe care ţi-l voi spune.

9 A nd the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul has done, how he has cut off the spiritists and the diviners out of the land; why then dost thou lay a snare for my life, to cause me to die?

– Tu ştii ce a făcut Saul, i-a răspuns femeia, ştii cum a nimicit din ţară pe cei care cheamă duhurile morţilor şi pe descântători. De ce întinzi o cursă vieţii mele ca să fiu ucisă?

10 A nd Saul swore to her by the LORD, saying, As the LORD lives, no iniquity shall come upon thee for this thing.

Saul i-a jurat pe Domnul, zicând: – Viu este Domnul, nu vei fi pedepsită pentru lucrul acesta.

11 T hen the woman said, Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel.

– Pe cine vrei să ridic pentru tine? l-a întrebat femeia. – Ridică-l pe Samuel! i-a răspuns el.

12 A nd when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice; and the woman spoke to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? For thou art Saul.

Când l-a văzut femeia pe Samuel, a scos un ţipăt puternic şi i-a zis lui Saul: – De ce m-ai înşelat? Tu eşti Saul.

13 A nd the king said unto her, Do not be afraid. What didst thou see? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods rising out of the land.

– Nu te teme! Ce vezi? a continuat regele. – Văd o fiinţă dumnezeiască ridicându-se din pământ, i-a răspuns femeia lui Saul.

14 A nd he said unto her, What form is he of? And she said, An old man comes, and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground and worshipped.

– Cum arată? a întrebat-o el. – Văd cum se ridică un om bătrân învelit cu o mantie, i-a răspuns ea. Saul şi-a dat seama că acesta era Samuel şi s-a plecat cu faţa la pământ şi s-a închinat.

15 ¶ And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed, for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me and no longer answers me neither by prophets nor by dreams; therefore, I have called thee that thou may make known unto me what I shall do.

Samuel i-a zis lui Saul: – Pentru ce m-ai tulburat ridicându-mă? – Mă aflu într-un mare necaz! i-a răspuns Saul. Filistenii se luptă împotriva mea, iar Dumnezeu s-a îndepărtat de mine. Nu mi-a mai vorbit nici prin profeţi şi nici prin vise. Atunci te-am chemat pe tine ca să-mi arăţi ce să fac.

16 T hen Samuel said, Why then dost thou ask of me, seeing the LORD is departed from thee, and is become thy enemy?

Dar Samuel i-a zis: – Dacă Domnul S-a îndepărtat de tine şi ţi-a devenit duşman, de ce mă mai întrebi pe mine?

17 T he LORD, therefore, has done as he spoke by me! For the LORD has rent the kingdom out of thy hand and given it to thy neighbour, even to David.

Domnul a împlinit ceea ce spusese prin mine: a rupt regatul din mâna ta şi l-a dat semenului tău, lui David.

18 B ecause thou didst not hearken unto the voice of the LORD nor execute his fierce wrath upon Amalek; therefore, the LORD has done this thing unto thee today.

Pentru că nu ai ascultat de glasul Domnului şi nu i-ai făcut pe amalekiţi să simtă mânia Lui cea aprigă, de aceea Domnul îţi face astăzi lucrul acesta.

19 A nd the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines, and tomorrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me; the LORD shall also deliver the camp of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.

Mai mult, Domnul îl va da pe Israel, împreună cu tine, în mâna filistenilor şi mâine, tu şi fiii tăi, veţi fi cu mine. De asemenea, Domnul va da oştirea lui Israel în mâna filistenilor.

20 ¶ Then Saul, as great as he was, fell suddenly to the earth and was sore afraid because of the words of Samuel; and there was no strength in him, for he had eaten no bread all that day nor all that night.

Îndată Saul a căzut la pământ, cât era de lung, plin de frică din cauza cuvintelor lui Samuel. Nu mai era nici o putere în el, căci nu mâncase nimic toată ziua şi toată noaptea.

21 A nd the woman came unto Saul and saw that he was sore troubled and said unto him, Behold, thy handmaid has heard thy voice, and I have put my soul in my hand and have hearkened unto thy words which thou didst speak unto me.

Când a venit femeia la Saul şi l-a văzut aşa de înspăimântat, i-a zis: – Iată, slujitoarea ta a ascultat de glasul tău. Mi-am pus viaţa în primejdie şi am ascultat cuvintele pe care mi le-ai spus.

22 N ow, therefore, I pray thee, hearken thou also unto the voice of thy handmaid and let me set a morsel of bread before thee; and eat, that thou may have strength, and go on thy way.

Acum, te rog, ascultă şi tu de glasul slujitoarei tale şi dă-mi voie să-ţi pun înainte o bucată de pâine. Să mănânci ca să prinzi putere pe când vei porni la drum.

23 B ut he refused and said, I will not eat. But his slaves, together with the woman, compelled him, and he hearkened unto their voice. So he arose from the ground and sat upon a bed.

Saul nu a vrut să mănânce, însă slujitorii săi, împreună cu femeia, au stăruit de el până i-a ascultat. Şi astfel el s-a ridicat de la pământ şi s-a aşezat pe pat.

24 A nd the woman had a fat calf in the house, and she hastened and killed it and took flour and kneaded it and baked unleavened bread with it.

Femeia avea la casa ei un viţel îngrăşat; ea l-a tăiat în grabă, apoi a luat făină, a frământat-o şi a copt azime.

25 A nd she brought it before Saul and before his slaves, and after they ate, they rose up and went away that night.

Le-a pus înaintea lui Saul şi a slujitorilor săi, iar ei au mâncat. Apoi s-au ridicat şi au plecat chiar în noaptea aceea.
