1 ¶ Now Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram, his son, reigned in his stead.

Iehoşafat s-a culcat alături de părinţii săi şi a fost înmormântat alături de părinţii săi, în Cetatea lui David, iar în locul lui a domnit fiul său Iehoram. Domnia lui Iehoram peste Iuda

2 A nd he had brethren, sons of Jehoshaphat, Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariah, Michael, and Shephatiah; all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat, king of Israel.

Fraţii săi, fii ai lui Iehoşafat, erau: Azaria, Iehiel, Zaharia, Azaria, Mihail şi Şefatia. Toţi aceştia erau fii ai lui Iehoşafat, regele lui Israel.

3 A nd their father had given them great gifts of silver and of gold and of precious things, with fenced cities in Judah, but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram because he was the firstborn.

Tatăl lor le dăduse numeroase daruri în aur, argint şi lucruri scumpe, precum şi cetăţi fortificate în Iuda, însă domnia i-o dăduse lui Iehoram, fiindcă el era întâiul născut.

4 N ow Jehoram rose up against the kingdom of his father, and he strengthened himself and slew all his brethren with the sword and likewise some of the princes of Israel.

Când a urcat pe tronul regatului tatălui său şi şi-a întărit domnia, Iehoram i-a ucis cu sabia pe toţi fraţii săi, precum şi pe unii dintre conducătorii lui Israel.

5 J ehoram was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

Iehoram avea treizeci şi doi de ani când a devenit rege şi a domnit la Ierusalim timp de opt ani.

6 A nd he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house of Ahab, for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife; and he wrought that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD.

El a umblat în calea regilor lui Israel, făcând ce este rău înaintea Domnului, aşa cum a făcut familia lui Ahab, deoarece soţia sa era chiar o fiică a lui Ahab.

7 H owever, the LORD would not destroy the house of David because of the covenant that he had made with David and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever.

Totuşi Domnul nu a dorit să nimicească Casa lui David datorită legământului încheiat cu David, potrivit căruia El îi promisese că-i va da, pentru totdeauna, o lumină lui şi urmaşilor lui.

8 I n his days Edom rebelled from under the dominion of Judah and made themselves a king.

Pe vremea lui Iehoram, Edom s-a răsculat împotriva stăpânirii lui Iuda şi şi-a ales propriul său rege.

9 T hen Jehoram went forth with his princes and all his chariots with him, and he rose up by night and smote Edom who had compassed him in and all the captains of the chariots.

Iehoram a trecut hotarul împreună cu conducătorii săi şi cu carele sale. Edomiţii îl înconjuraseră pe el şi pe conducătorii carelor sale, dar el s-a sculat în toiul nopţii şi i-a învins.

10 W ith all this Edom remained in rebellion, out from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Libnah also rebelled at the same time to not be under his hand because he had forsaken the LORD God of his fathers.

Răscoala lui Edom împotriva stăpânirii lui Iuda a ţinut până în ziua de azi. Tot în acea perioadă s-a răsculat şi Libna împotriva stăpânirii lui Iuda, din cauză că Iehoram L-a părăsit pe Domnul, Dumnezeul strămoşilor săi.

11 M oreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication and compelled Judah unto this.

El a zidit înălţimi în munţii lui Iuda, i-a făcut pe locuitorii Ierusalimului să se prostitueze şi i-a dus în rătăcire pe cei din Iuda.

12 ¶ And a writing came to him from Elijah, the prophet, that said this: Thus hath the LORD, the God of David, thy father, said, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father nor in the ways of Asa, king of Judah,

I-a sosit o scrisoare de la profetul Ilie în care se spunea astfel: „Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul strămoşului tău David: «Pentru că nu ai umblat în căile tatălui tău, Iehoşafat, nici în căile lui Asa, regele lui Iuda,

13 b ut hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fornicate, like unto the fornication of the house of Ahab, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father’s house, who were better than thyself,

ci ai umblat în căile regilor lui Israel şi i-ai făcut pe cei din Iuda şi pe locuitorii Ierusalimului să se prostitueze, aşa cum a făcut familia lui Ahab, pentru că i-ai ucis pe fraţii tăi, fiii tatălui tău, care erau mai buni decât tine,

14 b ehold, the LORD shall smite thy people with a great plague, and thy sons and thy wives and all thy goods;

iată că Domnul va lovi cu o mare urgie poporul tău, fiii tăi, soţiile tale şi toate proprietăţile tale.

15 a nd thou shalt have great sickness, with disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.

Iar pe tine te va lovi cu o boală cumplită, o boală de măruntaie. Boala se va agrava pe zi ce trece, până când măruntaiele îţi vor ieşi afară.»“

16 T hen the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines and of the Arabians, that were near the Ethiopians;

Domnul a stârnit împotriva lui Iehoram duhul filistenilor şi al arabilor care locuiau în vecinătatea cuşiţilor.

17 a nd they came up against Judah and invaded the land and carried away all the substance that was found in the king’s house, and his sons also and his wives so that none of his sons remained except Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.

Aceştia au înaintat împotriva lui Iuda, au pătruns în el, au jefuit toate bogăţiile găsite în palatul regelui şi i-au luat captivi pe fiii şi pe soţiile acestuia, nelăsându-i nici un fiu, în afară de Ahazia, cel mai mic dintre fiii săi.

18 A nd after all this the LORD smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease.

După toate acestea, Domnul l-a lovit cu o boală de măruntaie pentru care nu exista leac.

19 A nd it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness; so he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like they had done for his fathers.

Ea s-a agravat pe zi ce trecea, până când, la sfârşitul a doi ani de suferinţă, i-au ieşit măruntaiele afară din cauza bolii şi a murit în chinuri cumplite. Poporul său nu a făcut foc în cinstea lui, aşa cum făcuseră strămoşilor lui.

20 H e was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years and departed without being desired. And they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.

Iehoram era în vârstă de treizeci şi doi de ani când a devenit rege şi a domnit la Ierusalim timp de opt ani. El s-a dus fără ca cineva să-l regrete. L-au înmormântat în Cetatea lui David, dar nu în mormântul regilor.
