1 ¶ On that night the king could not sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles, and they were read before the king.

În acea noapte împăratul nu a putut să doarmă. A cerut să-i fie adusă „Cartea cronicilor“, adică analele, şi i s-a citit împăratului din ea.

2 A nd it was found written that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, the keepers of the door, who had sought to lay hand on King Ahasuerus.

S-a găsit scris ce descoperise Mardoheu cu privire la Bigtana şi Tereş, doi dintre eunucii împăratului, responsabili cu paza porţii, care încercaseră să ridice mâna împotriva împăratului Ahaşveroş.

3 A nd the king said, What honour and dignity has been done unto Mordecai for this? Then the king’s servants who ministered unto him answered, Nothing has been done for him.

Împăratul a întrebat: – Ce onoare şi ce răsplată i s-au dat lui Mardoheu pentru această faptă? – Nu i s-a dat nimic, i-au răspuns împăratului cei care îl slujeau.

4 ¶ And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman had come into the outward court of the king’s house to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.

– Cine este în curte? a mai întrebat împăratul. Haman tocmai intrase în curtea exterioară a palatului împăratului, cu gând să-i ceară împăratului să-l spânzure pe Mardoheu pe spânzurătoarea pe care i-o pregătise.

5 A nd the king’s servants said unto him, Behold, Haman stands in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.

Slujitorii împăratului i-au răspuns: – Haman este în curte! – Să intre! a spus împăratul.

6 S o Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delights to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself?

De îndată ce Haman a intrat, împăratul l-a şi întrebat: – Ce trebuie făcut pentru omul pe care împăratul doreşte să-l onoreze? Haman şi-a zis atunci în gând: „Pe cine altul ar dori împăratul să-l onoreze mai mult, dacă nu pe mine?“

7 A nd Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delights to honour,

Haman i-a răspuns împăratului: – Omului pe care împăratul doreşte să-l onoreze

8 l et the royal apparel be brought which the king wears, and the horse that the king rides upon, and the royal crown which is set upon his head;

trebuie să i se aducă mantia imperială cu care se îmbracă împăratul, calul pe care călăreşte împăratul şi să i se pună pe cap coroana împărătească.

9 a nd let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that he may clothe the man whom the king delights to honour and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honour.

Calul şi haina să fie date celui mai nobil dintre demnitarii împăratului, iar el să-l îmbrace pe omul pe care împăratul doreşte să-l onoreze, să-l plimbe călare pe cal prin piaţeta cetăţii şi să strige înaintea lui: „Aşa se cuvine să se facă omului pe care împăratul doreşte să-l onoreze!“

10 T hen the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do so unto Mordecai, the Jew, that sits at the king’s gate; let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.

Împăratul i-a zis apoi lui Haman: – Grăbeşte-te de ia mantia şi calul, aşa cum ai spus, şi fă-i întocmai lui Mardoheu, iudeul care stă la poarta împăratului. Să nu laşi nimic nefăcut din ce ai zis!

11 T hen Haman took the apparel and the horse and clothed Mordecai and brought him on horseback through the plaza of the city and caused it to be proclaimed before him, Thus shall be done unto the man whom the king delights to honour.

Haman a luat mantia şi calul, l-a îmbrăcat pe Mardoheu şi l-a plimbat călare pe cal prin piaţeta cetăţii, strigând înaintea lui: „Aşa se cuvine să se facă omului pe care împăratul doreşte să-l onoreze!“

12 ¶ After that Mordecai returned to the king’s gate. But Haman hastened to his house mourning and having his head covered.

După aceea, Mardoheu s-a întors la poarta împăratului, iar Haman s-a grăbit să plece acasă, mâhnit şi cu capul acoperit.

13 A nd Haman told Zeresh, his wife, and all his friends all that had befallen him. Then his wise men and Zeresh, his wife, said unto him, If Mordecai is of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.

Haman a povestit soţiei sale, Zereş, şi tuturor prietenilor săi tot ce i s-a întâmplat. Atunci prietenii lui înţelepţi şi soţia sa Zereş i-au zis: „Dacă Mardoheu, înaintea căruia ai început să cazi, este din neamul iudeilor, nu vei putea face nimic, ci cu siguranţă vei cădea înaintea lui!“

14 A nd while they were yet talking with him, the king’s eunuchs came in haste to bring Haman to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

În timp ce vorbeau cu el, au sosit eunucii împăratului şi s-au grăbit să-l trimită pe Haman la ospăţul pregătit de Estera.
