1 ¶ Moreover, brothers, I would that ye not ignore how our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea

Fraţilor, nu vreau să nu ştiţi că toţi strămoşii noştri erau sub nor, toţi au trecut prin mare,

2 a nd were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea

toţi au fost botezaţi pentru Moise în nor şi în mare,

3 a nd did all eat the same spiritual food

toţi au mâncat aceeaşi hrană duhovnicească

4 a nd did all drink the same spiritual drink, for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them; and that Rock was the Christ.

şi toţi au băut aceeaşi băutură duhovnicească, pentru că au băut din Stânca duhovnicească Care-i însoţea, iar Stânca era Cristos.

5 B ut with many of them God was not pleased; therefore, they were overthrown in the wilderness.

Totuşi, Dumnezeu n-a fost mulţumit cu cei mai mulţi dintre ei, iar trupurile lor au fost împrăştiate prin pustie.

6 ¶ Now these things became types of us, that we should not lust after evil things as they lusted.

Aceste lucruri sunt exemple pentru noi, pentru ca noi să nu dorim lucruri rele, aşa cum au dorit ei.

7 N either be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.

Să nu fiţi idolatri, aşa cum au fost unii dintre ei, după cum este scris: „Poporul s-a aşezat să mănânce şi să bea, după care s-a sculat să se distreze.“

8 N either let us commit fornication, as some of them committed and fell dead: in one day, twenty-three thousand.

Să nu fim desfrânaţi, aşa cum au fost unii dintre ei, astfel că într-o singură zi au murit douăzeci şi trei de mii.

9 N either let us tempt the Christ, as some of them also tempted and perished by the serpents.

Să nu-L punem pe Cristos la încercare, aşa cum au făcut unii dintre ei şi au fost omorâţi de şerpi.

10 N either murmur ye, as some of them also murmured and perished by the destroyer.

Să nu cârtiţi, aşa cum au făcut unii dintre ei şi au fost nimiciţi de nimicitorul.

11 N ow all these things happened unto them as types, and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.

Aceste lucruri li s-au întâmplat lor pentru a ne servi nouă drept exemple şi au fost scrise pentru a ne avertiza pe noi, cei peste care urmau să vină sfârşiturile veacurilor.

12 T herefore let him that thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

Aşadar, cel ce crede că stă în picioare, să aibă grijă să nu cadă!

13 N o temptation has taken you but such as is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above what ye are able but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Nu v-a cuprins nici o ispită care să nu fie potrivită cu puterea omenească. Şi Dumnezeu, Care este credincios, nu va permite să fiţi ispitiţi peste puterea voastră, ci odată cu ispita a pregătit şi mijlocul de a o putea răbda. Jertfele aduse idolilor şi Cina Domnului

14 T herefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

De aceea, preaiubiţii mei, fugiţi de idolatrie!

15 ¶ I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.

Vorbesc cu voi ca şi cu nişte oameni înţelepţi. Judecaţi singuri ceea ce vă spun!

16 T he cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the fellowship of the blood of the Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the fellowship of the body of the Christ?

Paharul binecuvântării, pe care îl binecuvântăm, nu este oare părtăşia cu sângele lui Isus Cristos? Pâinea pe care o frângem nu este oare părtăşia cu trupul lui Cristos?

17 F or one loaf of bread means that many are one body, for we are all partakers of that one loaf.

Pentru că este o pâine, noi, care suntem mulţi, suntem un trup, întrucât toţi mâncăm dintr-o singură pâine.

18 B ehold Israel after the flesh: are not those who eat of the sacrifices participants of the altar?

Uitaţi-vă la Israelul după trup: cei ce mănâncă jertfele nu sunt oare în părtăşie cu altarul?

19 W hat do I say then? that the idol is anything or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is anything?

Deci, ce zic eu? Că ce este jertfit idolilor este ceva sau că idolul este ceva?

20 B ut I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God; and I would not that ye should be participants of demons.

Nu, ci că jertfele păgânilor sunt aduse demonilor, nu lui Dumnezeu. Iar eu nu vreau ca voi să fiţi în părtăşie cu demonii!

21 Y e cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; ye cannot be participants of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons.

Nu puteţi bea şi paharul Domnului, şi paharul demonilor! Nu puteţi lua parte şi la masa Domnului, şi la masa demonilor!

22 S hall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

Sau vrem oare să-L facem gelos pe Domnul?! Suntem noi mai puternici decât El? Trăiţi pentru slava lui Dumnezeu!

23 ¶ All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient; all things are lawful for me, but all things do not edify.

Toate sunt îngăduite, dar nu toate sunt de folos. Toate sunt îngăduite, dar nu toate zidesc.

24 L et no one seek his own good, but that of the other.

Nimeni nu trebuie să urmărească binele propriu, ci binele altuia.

25 W hatever is sold in the market, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake;

Mâncaţi orice se vinde pe piaţa de carne, fără să vă puneţi vreo întrebare din cauza conştiinţei,

26 f or the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.

căci „al Domnului este pământul cu tot ce este pe el!“

27 I f any of those that do not believe bid you to a feast, and ye are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you asking no questions for conscience sake.

Dacă un necredincios vă cheamă la masă şi vreţi să mergeţi, mâncaţi orice vi se va da, fără să vă puneţi vreo întrebare, din cauza conştiinţei.

28 B ut if anyone says unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, do not eat it for the sake of him that disclosed it and for conscience sake; for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof:

Dacă însă cineva vă spune: „Aceasta a fost adusă ca jertfă!“, atunci să nu mâncaţi, din cauza celui care v-a spus şi din cauza conştiinţei (căci „al Domnului este pământul cu tot ce este pe el“);

29 c onscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other, for why should my liberty be judged by another man’s conscience?

mă refer la conştiinţa celuilalt, nu la a voastră. Căci de ce să fie judecată libertatea mea de conştiinţa altuia?

30 F or if I by grace am a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?

Dacă eu mulţumesc pentru mâncarea pe care o mănânc, de ce să fiu dispreţuit din cauza unui lucru pentru care mulţumesc?

31 W hether therefore ye eat or drink or whatever ye do, do everything for the glory of God.

Aşadar, fie că mâncaţi, fie că beţi sau orice altceva faceţi, să le faceţi pe toate pentru slava lui Dumnezeu.

32 B e without offense, neither to the Jews nor to the Gentiles nor to the congregation of God;

Să nu fiţi pricină de poticnire nici pentru iudei, nici pentru greci, nici pentru biserica lui Dumnezeu,

33 e ven as I please everyone in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.

aşa cum, de altfel, încerc şi eu, în toate lucrurile, să plac tuturor, necăutând folosul meu, ci al multora, pentru a fi mântuiţi!
